Well, consider this. Someone/everyone could make a copy/paste Bitcoin clone with some minor adjustments that would have BETTER usability/usecases with a limited cap of 21 million. I'm pretty sure you would have huge problems dumping 10,000 of those for 50 bucks.

Why would that be if it's better??

Is the Bitcoin brandname alone worth it's entire marketcap?

I believe, there are many stories like that today as the crypto users before didn't have any idea that they will see the bitcoin's price this high...

One of the best ... maybe you remember  Smiley  ...

Back in 2010, Joey Rich opened a thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/buybitcoinscom-50000-bitcoins-for-sale-at-15-btcusd-987:
I believe, there are many stories like that today as the crypto users before didn't have any idea that they will see the bitcoin's price this high...

Or that one: also back in 2010, a user auctioned 10,000 Bitcoin, starting bid was 50 USD for all 10,000! And to find a buyer he wrote: 10k BTC are currently worth ~65.50 USD
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/old-bitcoin-auction-1000000-btc-starting-bid-5000-usd-92
I know this is well below your starting bid, but since no one has taken it yet I'll offer $20.

Another user who was interested:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.840
Auction is over.
Since nobody has made the starting bid, the bitcoins do not change their owner.

Today's value: ~500 million USD

I know you regret it, but there's nothing you can do to change it. I can somewhat relate to what you're feeling right now, but not at the same degree, since your transactions are way higher than mine. When I returned to the Bitcoin scene and this forum, back in December 2020, I managed to recover two Blockchain wallets with microbalances left in them.

This is one of them. Honestly, seeing the transaction value with today's price did hurt a little.

I believe, there are many stories like that today as the crypto users before didn't have any idea that they will see the bitcoin's price this high. We can't say hold also because we don't know the future. What if we haven't reached this stage? And btc is not popular. People will just ignore and forget what they had in crypto. So if you don't want to regret someday, maybe, try starting to accumulate some satoshis. But don't expect too much as you may be disappointed if what will happen is not what you expected.

Many persons who sold off their bitcoin for some altcoins didn't know bitcoin will become very expensive at this early time after seen a massive bearish market in 2018/2019. Some of us made some huge blunder on our bitcoin possession. I won't want to dwell in regret.

You did not know that bitcoin will become a high price and just like me I already sold most of the bitcoin that I have before but I did not regret it because I know there is some opportunity that will open to me even I did not become a millionaire think about the present not the past because if you always thinking and regreting your self about what happened in the past you will not grow or not focus to oppotunity fhat we have right now.

No matter how early you regret it's always too late. Op you just have to move on and think about the next ten years of bitcoin, how you will look back and thank yourself for accepting that you made a mistake but didn't quit along the line. Bitcoin is still at it's early stage and they is nothing to regret. Just hold your self and try those things that fetched you such a huge amount of bitcoin in the past again.

A lesson that I learned here is never sell

I don’t know why some people always feel regret when they see things like this. That you missed the opportunity to hold for long and become a millionaire now doesn’t mean that you are not going to get that kind of opportunity any longer. The question is what plans have you laid in place this time around to help you get to that level in the next years to come, or are you still the same person that you were years ago?

There is still the same opportunity to get rich through Bitcoin. I started around 2013, I was neither sure of where Bitcoin was going to end up, and I was not able to hold for long. But, I learnt my lesson in 2017 and I never made the same mistake this time around, and I am also not going to be making the same mistake in the next halving that would come. It’s up to you.

everything that has happened, I don't think there is anything to regret anymore because I don't think it's useful enough for now and we only live on regrets and it's not a good thing to do.
on the other hand I think we have to turn over a new leaf because bitcoin is now something valuable and we have to focus on looking ahead and past experiences should be used as valuable lessons.
At least we can consider ourselves delayed millionaires because it was so easy to let go of bitcoin at that time Cheesy

We can't live with regrets, we have to move on no matter how bad things are. Sometimes things that have happened we don't need to keep
on remembering. Because sometimes to become millionaires, we have to go through some bad things first. I agree with you, we should focus
on the future instead of continuing to be stuck with regrets in the past. Moreover, Bitcoin continues to develop and increase in price, so we will be
left behind if we don't immediately rise from our regrets. I believe everyone who tries really hard, eventually becomes a millionaire it's just
a matter of time. We can all become millionaires as long as we don't give up and keep trying to achieve it, even though it may be a long process.

life goes on, we can't deny it and even if we regret it it won't come back again.
Everything has its time and indeed, a few years ago bitcoin was arguably less valuable and only used as a means of exchange for games and we certainly never know what will happen in the future at that time including the price of bitcoin.
I think what's over is just let it go and make it a beautiful experience because at least we've held bitcoins in large quantities Cheesy

That's right, becoming a millionaire is only a matter of time and don't let the experiences that happened in the past few years and the mistakes of a few years ago are now repeated.

Well I did not do my own 100% calculations but I know if I did,,, counting all the BTC and especially altcoins like DOGE I would definitely be a millionaire in my country (so maybe something like 150k in USD total which is plenty of money to retire sort of if you are single and do not mind living outside the city).

Do not take this lesson hard and take it as a learning for 2030 Smiley

I have to disagree with your opinion

Bitcoin isn't on the highest value now, it's around $50K while the highest ATH was $69K and I didn't call $69K is the highest value of Bitcoin. There're a lot speculations Bitcoin could reach $100K, $1M etc but surely it will takes times and depends on the holders.

Investing on altcoins and wait for 7 years to get insane profit is really gambling, I bet most of them already turn become deadcoin or shitcoins because altcoins only for short times.

OP, what would you do now (you would have ~10 BTC or ~500,000 USD) if you hadn't sold?

Feeling sad for you OP , but since that happens 7 years ago ? i think it is acceptable mistake on your part now and besides you have nothing to do with that but only to look at and feel sorry so best to let it be.

While Bitcoin is now on the highest Value , why not consider trying your luck again in Altcoins?
maybe you can find Gems like how you find Bitcoin back in 2014.

You should not dig to find your Old wallet specially in that long years as the value of Bitcoin those days are really cheaper than what we had today and that will only brings you bad thoughts as you had sold your currencies when still so low.

I sometimes thought of the same thing imagining that i am gaining 0.005-0.01 bitcoin for weekly payments in 2017 and all i do is withdrawing those amount instantly each week not taking the idea of Holding.

so Lets move on and accumulate more bitcoin again now.

Thanks, everyone for the kind words, I have come to peace with this and moved on from it but definitely a lesson learned, never sell all of your coins Smiley
Yes, that is a good suggestion for all of us. If we can get the coin at the lowest price and suddenly, the price increase so high, we do not have to sell all of the coins but we can sell for half amount while keeping the other half for the next highest price. We know that will need time for the price to increase, but we should know that the price can adjust the lower price, giving us a chance to buy back using the profit. It is how we can manage the funds that we will use to trade. If you use the coin for the investment, you should know how long you will hold the coin and when you will sell the coin.

we all have our reasons mate so never felt like that because you only  did what is needed that time, I myself had sold my bitcoin back in 2017 even before the great pump in December when i can earn at least multiple times but at first yeah i feel something like that but eventually?
i learn to understand that we have to decide or we will be bitter in the future.
and don't worry you may not become a millionaire now but at least you will be in the future if you will continue helping the market and also invest more on this.

You probably sold probably because you had to. There is no point regretting. I don't like it when people say "never sell". Better to say "keep holding if you can". If you have no other option but to sell, then just sell and move on. Don't look back. If you have extra cash lying around, then go ahead and invest again. It is never late. Keep investing as much as you can, and if you don't have to sell, then just keep holding. You will make some good profit in the future.

You can say that if you are capacitated to spend some funds for your living , but what if you only depending in everything that is in your hands? how will you survive without selling?
and besides you sold the funds back then because you badly needed it and not just because you wanted too.
