That's why you should do your research first before buying some coin,so that you don't get a shitcoin later. For bitcoin, hodl is not bad because we expect a long growth,so it's better to hodl instead panic sell, where you lose your money before the price up again.

if it is counterproductive to be hold can be bad if you have a lot of time as it can also be beneficial everything depends on the price because if you keep it and instead of going low you are losing everything depends on the risk you want to take if you leave it in the long term or in the short term or what percentage you want to get from that investment

HODL is very dangerous especially to those that bought at the top. Thus when the general market goes Red, they fall in loss then Hodl with a hope of the coin going up again but most won't times and if care is not taken, the coin goes down in value more and more.

"Hodl" is word used to much in crypto space but i think hodl can be dangerous for newbies mostly they will be shilled and hodl a shitcoin or hodl a solid coin for too long and wouldn't sell when time was right you will end up like me as there was time when i could buy tesla now i can only buy honda.

well the altcoin pumpers have always been using bitcoin to fool newbies into bag holding altcoins and lose money on them. they have been promising them big returns that never come. they even go as far as telling them that said shitcoins are replacing bitcoin. then when they dump on them these newbies open their eyes finally under that dump and see what was really going on.

Yes you are a fairly new person and have kept the junk coins in some time with market conditions like this then do not blame on the principle of holding the truth, smart people will build portfolios by doing the most profound analysis the most appropriate is to buy more coins for the top coins , do not be too ambitious to get rich, there are so many people out there to hold Bitcoin because it's great for market development.

If you do not know the character of crypto currency and you do not understand how to predict the price of crypto currency, yes you should hold your asset till you already know when you should sell and when you should buy. If you look at the risk of hodl too risky, someone will not know the price of bitcoin in the future, they just predict just looking  at the price of crypto currency in the previous year.

Bitcoin isn't a bubble. It's the pin!

Ahhh you have just described me at the end there. My dream car is a tesla, not a lambo like other Bitcoiners. There was a time when I could afford a Tesla but now I'm not even close. However... Hodl is what got me here in the first place. Back in the day Bitcoin crashed from $500 to $230 and I was this close to selling all of my coins and just walking away from it all. But I didn't, I just HODL'd and I sure am glad I did. I would never recommend hodling alt coins, as they can become worthless within years. I've seen it happen time and time again. I will only advise to hodl Bitcoin, and maybe one altcoin like Litecoin (digital silver).

Actually holding is the best option for the newbies.Because they will easily get panic in trading of cryptocurrency by seeing the fluctuations.Newbies must analysis the market and then inverse on a potential coin.If they inverse on a shitcoin without the crypto knowledge. They are forced to lose a investments.

HODLING bitcoin over time has proven to be the only strategy that works out 100% of the time....eventually.
Look at the price journey since the 1st block was mined & you’ll see the price always rises to reach a new ATH....eventually.

Seriously if you can wait a few years & have patience you’ll be handsomely rewarded.
There is no guarantee in crypto space my dear when you know market is in downtrend but still hodl nonetheless is bad practice

laughs.... that is true my brother, sometimes they project will says hold don't sell but after the token is beeing distributed then you will see bounty hunters will go dump the token and spoil the market. while you are meant to sell before the market get worst but since it's said hold that is why your luck of earning much in particular coin is lost.

It's simple, you can't HODL a shitcoin. HODLing is reserved for BTC.
And more important, don't buy a shitcoin.

How hard can it be?

hold is harmless as long as we can pick a good coin to use and maintain. for seniors I think if getting into the wrong coin will definitely be harmed though using the hold system. so hold also must be careful.

This is like saying:
"Betting on the winning horse is a good strategy". Smiley

I was recently browsing the electroneum thread,  the atmosphere there is like Thermopylae, hodl or we're all gonna die Smiley)). And that coin was considered by a lot of boobs the new bitcoin.
The amount of shilling in there rivals even bitcoincash.

HODL is just a term and it is not forced on anyone. The principle of holding in order to sell at a future higher price happens in all businesses where you intend to make a profit. If you are interested in cryptocurrency, then learn all you need about it and don't get confused by any term.

Hold is just a word used as a joke. You can use "storing" "keeping" or whatever it's the same meaning. There is nothing to do with a newbie who owns some shitcoins, he still needs to make some researches to know about what he is jumping on. If he doesn't know what he is doing then it's another problem

Your understanding is very correct. Many novice's understanding of HODL is very simple, and it is a good way to hold it all the time. In the encrypted market, bitcoin can be held for a long time, and holding altcoin will be a bad choice in many cases.

It depends. The "hodl" mindset is better for those who usually panic sell when the markets go crazy low and drop like where we are right now. But when actively trading for profits though? You get 1.5x - 2x profit? Sell and take profits! No need to get too greedy when doing trading, hoping that you're going to get more profit. Being too greedy usually ends bad, most of the time.
day trading can also be bad practice if you don't know charting and fundamentals. I am not against hodling but mindless hodling no matter what usually end in bad terms.
