I don't think captchas would work out, since sites like http://megatypers.com/ exist.
Also, websites that already use captchas could just give out the captchas that they're mining instead, giving them a huge advantage.

for that it can use some different kind of captchas or anything that is not solveable by a botnet.
If a human can solve it, a group of humans can solve it for a website. How would you solve the second problem by the way?

The vast majority of Devcoins are essentially mined by human creative work.

180M coins are distributed to people who earn shares for developing open source software, completing bounties, and writing on devtome, which pays 1 share for between 700 and 2000 words depending on the writer's quality. See sig for devtome link. The number of shares acts as the effective difficulty in earning devcoins, which is getting harder and harder (just like bitcoin mining). The coin has been around for 2 years but devtome is a fairly recent addition.

eg http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com put round 33 in there with blank name in the search to see the most recently completed round.

yeah.. that is somewhat or almost close to what i was thinking. But anyway thanks for the info.

It should be possible, after all proof-of-work is basically just about spam-protection so in principle any kind of captcha could do. Implementation is not easy though Smiley Some problems:

1. Block generation rate should be pretty constant and it would be hard to come up with human mining system that has adjustable difficulty. You would also need need to have miners available 24/7 to be able to use the system.

2. System should be decentralized: only shared state should be in the blockchain. How would one generate puzzles/captchas without central server?

I think Huntercoin is the coin you are searching.
It's solving the needed math with mining, but distributes 80% of the mined coins onto the map, where i can be human mined.

Because of these problems I doubt you can have purely human mineable coin that is still useful as a coin. Hybrid coin with block generation done by POW/POS and human miners just generating extra coins could work (I think Huntercoin is pretty close to this). Pretty much only difference to faucets that give out premined coins (or Gridcoin, I guess) would be that the system would be decentralized.

Well first one is pretty much possible since day and night is different for hemisphere ( i mean countries ) so it is possible to have some miners 24x7 . And for second one i will have to look into it.

Check out HunterCoin.

Yeah ..I checked but is not purely Human Mineable crypto...

But they are distributing not mining . Anyway thanks for the info .

Great a coin for who have enough slaves to submit captcha ?

lol..

atleast it will not be a coin who have enough cores or a botnet or a big gpu/asic farm which drives difficulty insane and almost impossible for  .. but a real brain which can actually be used to solve blocks.

And by captcha i mean before submitting a block (puzzle) .

what's its use?

isn't crypto-coin came to make our life easier OR you want to make job for jobless people ?

Proof of work can be anything. It doesn't have to be mining in the computational sense. It's just a convenient method that is easy to verify and hard to forge.

Hi folks !!

I was wondering whether it is really possible to create a coin where blocks will be mined by humans .. Like a puzzle will be generated for solving a block and if a person is able to solve it , he gets the reward . And as difficulty increases the puzzles gets harder and harder ..

Is it really possible ?

Sure, why not?

Provided the puzzles can be solved by humans, and not end up being bot-mined (which you can bet would be the first thing some people would be working on), it could be done.

The tricky part is in making the proof of work verifiable.

for checking bot mining a captcha can be included just before submitting a block...

The main agenda of crypto currency was to be decentralized not easier life or anything else ..?

Hi folks !!

I was wondering whether it is really possible to create a coin where blocks will be mined by humans ...

Is it really possible ?
yeah it's called "gold"

The tricky part is in making the proof of work verifiable.
