Tourists go to London to shop and buy things that are not found anywhere but there, so they prefer luxury goods, but how did you know that people are rich there? Does sitting in a cafe or buying a bag for 2000 dollars make you rich? I know friends who spend two weeks in London for an average of 7,000 to 15,000 dollars, and this is not a large amount, as it is an amount you can save in less than a year with the average salaries here.
Rolls-Royce cars are not a sign of wealth as you can rent some of them or some rich people want to go shopping.

My question is are people actually that rich or they just to like to show off ?

You may be just changing the ambiance and how life in London is, depending on the limited city you have been to and for sure it is still tourist spots. The cities in each country live differently, there is a so-called rich city which is very far from their lifestyle compared to those in the province are, although United kingdom is in the top richest country, we know that the cost of living there is not just the typical cost of living in other country and they will need to work at least 1-2 jobs to cover their expenses. London is also known for its high fashion brands and styles, I have a few friends who are currently living in London and after months of living there, they changed a lot, like extravagant and elegant changes because they have to align their dress code and lifestyle in the city they live in.

So far as I know, there is no report that there is a major crisis in London, UK, right now. Now, if you ask me if it is easy to survive there in that country, I think if you are not strategic, you will have a hard time surviving there. Because the cost of living there is too high now.

Properties and rentals are also expensive in London, and you know that. But there are many opportunities that you can find there that will suit your career.

It's easy to survive in London because no matter the high cost of living over there, there is also high employment rate and good payments so as you're earning higher that's also how your expenses would be higher but whichever way it is let the income be coming then even if you spend huge and live a good life I think it's the dream of every one to live in a comfortable environment that the atmosphere is filled with people who are happy and succeeding and i must tell you that London is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

When a nation plans very well, then developments and huge achievements awaits them so I believe that the government of London really made good efforts to make London what it is today and any country can achieve even more than London if they make good use of their natural resources and invest more on human capacity development and in less than no time, such country would really grow "thicker skin" as an evidence of good and healthy living.

I'm not from UK, but I guess that even if you visit the slums of London it will look similar to a middle class neighbourhood from a third world country. The fact we get surprised by all the wealth of a city like London is due to being used to the reality of our native countries where poverty, misery, dirt and thieves are lurking everywhere, including central, touristic areas. At same we don't have much notion of first world countries' daily life, getting really surprised once we see it for real, people from these countries also don't have notion of the third world countries' reality, and may get shocked if they see it for real someday.

Probably OP didn't see only tycoons on his journey through London, but the fact even the average citizens walk dressed in quality clothes and display good manners in public already gave the impression they were wealthier than they really are on the eyes of someone who isn't used to this reality.

The point is that living standards are totally different. The poorest citizen from a third world country isn't on the same level of the poorest citizen from a first world country. Better to be the poorest inside a rich country than an average inside a miserable country.

I'm not from London. Neither have I been there, but I guess you can't accurately measure the country's economic well-being by going into its central part, especially not in London. Business normally thrives in such areas. Those who have the money are the ones going there. Tourists flock there.

Also, it seems this isn't the kind of recession that's extremely worrisome. An economic decline has, in fact, been expected, although the recent numbers surpassed expectations. But the decline appears moderate and is very much manageable.

If you go to the poorest nation of this world but where rich people gather then you would think the same, am I wrong about the poverty in this country?

But if you want to know the real situation then meet some working-class people and ask if their situation is getting better or if they struggling financially. Poverty exists everywhere so does this rich too, so you can see rich people everywhere in this world and some just pretending to be rich as well.

It depends on the place you stay there. When you visit a tourist spot, the people around you tend to showcase only the positive and prosperous aspects of their lives. They highlight the beauty of their country, and everything seems perfect. However, the reality is that even in big cities like London, there are people who struggle with their day-to-day lives.

I know lots of people in London really struggling to pay the bills, its a giant city and there are plenty of quite poor people there due to high costs in an expensive city.     The clue as to what makes London rich is trade, lots of trade occurs there and especially finance is a big business in London.   Sterling is one of the worlds oldest existing currencies and there is a lot of historic business occurring in related trade from long established trade, insurance is a big deal for example thats what I would recommend to investigate wealth.
Of course not everyone is wealthy not even close to that situation; this is a city that has definitely benefitted over many years of establishment, part of that now long term historic benefit would be tourism.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
I went London 2 days Ago i was in central London and Kensington area.
I went out Also shopping and harrods.
I have questions....like how it's possible wealth are everywhere you can literally smell the smell of money and Wealth i been traveling many places....and i haven't seen this kind of happy life people was in coffe shops Everthing happy and wealthy.
To be honest i fallling love with central London the vibe there was so good and people so happy and wealthy.

What's the business they are in ? I mean i did not seen any Crisis i been told that UK are in Crisis i did not seen crisis all i saw was just abudamce and i spoted in 30min at least 10 Rolce Royces...and not just average but custom made versions.
I was surprised in stores i could not even move it was full of people crowded all over... What Crisis in UK ?
People who live Actually in UK can you explain to me ?
Are the wages are good in UK ? Becouse this kind of wealth not Even in new york i been in NYC there is a lot visible poverty and homeless people the streets not looking like it's some wealth paradize compared with London UK Also i been in Canada cities they are Nice but the huge wealth doesn't flash out like London i mean in London it's grazy how much wealth you gona see it got me thinking Are UK London living standard are higher than other countries?

My question is are people actually that rich or they just to like to show off ?
For those at the top of the economic ladder there is no crisis, as even when things are going on the wrong direction they can still make a lot of money, so it is natural that if you go to the capital of one of the richest countries around the world and you purposely visit the richest part of it, you will find that luxury is everywhere, if you actually took the time to visit more cities there, you will find out many average people just struggling to survive, as you would do if you visited any other country around the world.

The average salary in the UK is £29,600 per year, or approximately £2,334 per month

Wages can vary significantly depending on the industry and level of experience. In London, average salaries are significantly higher than in the rest of the country, at £44,370.

London does have a high standard of living, but it’s also one of the most expensive cities in the world. The cost of living in London is up to 58% more expensive compared to other urban areas of the UK. So, while wages are higher, so are expenses.

Some people may indeed be very wealthy, while others may prefer to spend their money on luxury goods and experiences. Appearances can be deceiving, and outward displays of wealth don’t always reflect someone’s financial stability or happiness.

For a long time now, I've been aware that living in London is very expensive, especially for someone from a developing country where costs, such as income taxes and house rents, are relatively lower. These aspects are quite challenging in the UK, and if you're earning a good income, you can expect to spend a significant portion of it on accommodation and living expenses. That's one aspect of living in London that I find disheartening, despite the relatively high level of security and the abundance of opportunities available.

As an individual, you can't simply go to London and stay at home, as you'll likely end up accumulating debts. The best approach when moving to London is to settle down and secure a well-paying job, unless you're there for tourism purposes.

In London, you need to work extra hard to enjoy your money, which is quite different from the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. There, accommodations and living expenses are more affordable, and there are job opportunities that cater to your needs, including basic necessities like food, housing, and utility bills.

Given the choice between the UK and Saudi Arabia, I would quickly opt for Saudi Arabia before even considering the UK.

The people you saw is very much the minority of the population. For every one of those guys there are tens of thousands who don’t have that much money & success. Try to be happy for what you have, there are a lot of people much worse off. Money doesn’t make you happy, material goods won’t help you be happy.

And that is why, for me, I believe so much in believing in yourself and self-contentment. Being content with whatever you have at your disposal is the best way to live life. Today, there are people who are ten times richer than you, have ten times larger houses, yet they are not too contented. They are still fighting to make more money, even shedding blood for it. But when you look back, you may find that you are doing better than them in terms of peace of mind.

I think it is very important to live a true life of yourself and not to fake any aspect of life. The truth is, most of the people you see there, maybe just a sizable number or percentage of people in the town, are really working hard to make money in the UK. It's not even funny because sometimes you have to take on multiple jobs to pay bills and live comfortably, maybe even relatively lavishly.

Like every other environment, there are people who want to impress the whole world, even if they are going into a lifetime of debt. You don't want to be like that because you don't want to incur debts that you cannot cover.

You can't always judge something by how it looks on the outside.  Even though downtown London seems so fancy and rich, that tiny part doesn't show everything going on across the whole city or all the money struggles folks in the UK face and  we gotta remember too that being happy isn't just having a bunch of stuff, and people can get money from all kinds of places, not regular nine-to-five jobs.  Those big paychecks people get in London usually gotta cover some pretty big costs of living too.

Average salary comparison

Quote
The average salary in London is £60.5k. The UK average salary was £42.2k in 2023. Gross average salary is calculated for full-time employees. Employee has to be in the same job for over 12 months. The data collected is Tax Year Ending. The income includes incentive payments and are available for local government districts/counties.

AFAIK, there is no part of the world that doesn't have poor people; even first-world countries have poor people who are not living up to the standard of some other rich persons who are really wealthy in that country. If people don't have money, you don't expect them to start loitering around the street and lamenting that they don't have money. Most people can actually be very content with what they have and make themselves feel happy at all times, like they have no worries.

Just like Fiatless stated, it is in my country too. There are some cities and places you would visit here, and you will not see poor people but only rich dudes who are living life to the fullest, enjoying themselves, and partying more often.

Also, if the standard of living or economic system in the UK is not the same as in your country, the poor people in the UK may not seem poor to you because of how they are living their lives freely, which is different from how it might be done in your country. Don't get me wrong, but what I mean is that, if you are from a third-world country and have traveled to the UK, you definitely will not expect everything to be as it is in your country.

You have not gone through the whole of London; if you do, you will definitely have answers to your question because, as far as I can remember, during August last year there was an article I read about some people who were homeless in London.

if you purposefully go to the rich part of the richest city thats all you will see the, richest part of the richest city

but if you then go to a different city entirely., say blackpool (listed as most deprived in 2023) you will see the opposite

welcome to the rich-poor divide

..
as for news of "falling into recession"
these terms are not about entering a period of recession.. but that the last 6 months have now been designated as being in recession (after the fact)
we wont know if the jan-june period of 2024 is deeper in recession until august, because thats what the "recession-officiating" policy is(retroactive designation)

..
as for NYC
if you go to south of central park. you will see the most expensive houses and the lifestyle of the financial district.

There are places you will visit in my country and you will argue that nobody is poor. These places accommodate the wealthy and influential people. You would see luxury houses and cars littered everywhere and the bars and shops will be filled with people celebrating and smiling.  But a few distances out of these places will show you the true picture of the country.

The UK has a resilient economy and the standard of living is high but there are still people that are struggling financially. Recently the UK fell into recession and there have been labour crises such as doctors' strikes and so on. I have some friends in the UK and they are having a better life than when they were still in our country but they complain of overwork. Some of them have to work for long hours for them to survive. One of them recently fainted in his place of work because he had to work in more than one place to support his family.  We might not be having the best of life in my country, but you have a chance to spend time with your family because you don't need to overwork to survive.
