Season series: This is the first time the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators will play since the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, when the Canadiens won their Eastern Conference First Round series in six games. Ottawa won three of four games against Montreal during the 2014-15 regular season. Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson had four goals in the 10 regular-season and playoff games, and Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty had six goals.

Canadiens team scope: It's the last of Montreal's season-opening three-game road trip. Senators team scope: It's the home opener for Ottawa, which defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 on Saturday in the NHL's first shootout of the season. Forward Bobby Ryan is excited to face the Canadiens. "I know the guys feel much more strongly about that rivalry than Toronto," Ryan told the Ottawa Sun, "and it's not because the team is better and the record is a little more similar; it's just because when you have a playoff series with a team, it sticks with you whether you win or lose.
