actually you should pay attention to the team from the project, you can look it up to see their history, then you see how their ico price, whether according to your thoughts or not. usually there are some projects with hardcap that does not make sense. in investment preferably you are more careful again

The Fourth Generation of Blockchain in DeFi

You must do research on the idea first.  How is it connected to Blockchain?  How realistic the road map is. Also,  take a look at hardcap. If a company doesn't need any costy hardware,  but tries to gain crazy millions -  forget about it.

Lately i have been trying to invest 1000$ in few ICO-s and after the incident on twitter about somebody who got paid to promote
ICO that was scam on the end i really was disappointed and i wanted to ask what is most important to look when exploring new companies?
Is it white paper , the team or token supply and price?how to know which one is good and which one is not because lately everything is faked, pictures web sites ,team.you dont know who to believe
thanks
The first thing you need to check are the team behind the project because they are the one who will handle it. This team is also responsible if you got scam. better heck their background and their credibility before wasting your time reading their whitepaper and roadmap.

Unfortunately most ICO ratings site aren't that great for that reason.

Ratings can be faked or just be hyped. There are way better metrics for measuring its success like other people mentioned.

You made a good point.

When I check on new ICO - first I check the ICO rating sites - ICObech and ICOdrops.
Then I search their web, read whitepaper, check on team - read all their LinkedIn profiles - are they experienced enough? What about CEO? Isn't he total newcomer to blockchain?
I check the roadmap as well - is it realistic? Does the ICO have actually a use in the real life or it is just a worthless token? Does really this project need blockchain in the first place?
Then I check the partnerships - are they legit?
After that I go to this forum - just put the name of ICO and bitcointalk to google to speed the searching process up, then I check reddit, medium, twitter and finally I join their Telegram and ask questions that came from my research and I expect all will be asnwered by the admin.

I hope this helped you and thanks for reading.

Honestly, you can never be 100% sure. Pretty much everything can be faked.

It's the white paper, the dev team, the token supply/price and more. You have to do a thorough research, as well as you can and just hope for the best.

Try use the search feature or even just read the titles of other threads before creating a new one.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--2819683

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.30376175

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/3-kinds-of-icos-protect-yourself-2243157

That's just 3 of the many threads to get you started. I'd suggest locking this thread (there's a lock in the bottom left) before it gets flooded with all of the same responses on these other threads.
