Is it necessary to post exactly 30 replies that are saying the same? i think tha the OP has already understood what is the difference between both them, but why is it necessary to spam this thread with tons of useless replies saying exactly the same? This is probably the reason of why this forum is so spammed by this kind of people, who are only posting in order to get paid.. I can not believe this.

As far as I know IPO are offered by companies that are already established but need more capital. ICO are offered by new companies to raise capital.

Also IPO's are highly regulated and usually investors are protected, well ICO's are not. That is the reason we have some scam coins.

Once you buy a stock of the company you may have dividends if the company is profitable. Coins does not have dividends.

Most of the ICO's can turn out to be scam, it all depends on company progress and their targets. Tomorrow if they decide to pack their bags and go away, we will be left with our bag of shit coins Smiley

An IPO typically occurs at a later stage in a companies development. Not only will the company have a viable product which earns revenue, they will be close to or already profitable.

ICO are the concept of crypto currency world and IPO are of the stock market. The main difference between these 2 is that in an ICO anyone can take part and he can contribute any amount of money to the project, but in an IPO only so called accredited investors can take part and I don't admire it much as it causes manipulation by those taking part in the IPO. But these days the projects in cryptocurrency world are also becoming more like IPO, take Jibrel for an example they are having minimum cap per person set at $5k but that's too much for most of the people, I think they should decrease the minimum cap per person.

IPO = Intial public offering, the moment a company goes to the stock exchange and gives out stocks for people to buy;
ICO = Initial coin offering, the moment a company needs cash to fund further development of their idea, difference with an IPO is that nobody would buy stocks on a company that does not have a working
product, service etc. Some ICO's collect a lot of money without a working product.

Correct, but there are also legal crowd equity funding ways to sell shares for early stage projects.

We are in fact planning to issue a legal crowd equity sale for shares in an app development company for our decentralized ledger which have something to do with earning tokens and distributing them as dividends.

ICOs are mostly all illegally issued and probably end up banned in the future.

ICO are the concept of crypto currency world and IPO are of the stock market.

True, that securities regulations compliant fundraising (i.e. not illegal) can not be sold worldwide. ICOs are sold worldwide, but only because they are illegal.

good day to you All dear readers

i have recently read an article and it they said there is ico's and ipo's what is exactly the differance between them? glad to hear you opinions

best regards

ICO word generally used in crypto currency it means ( Initial Coins Offering) and IPO word used generally in share markets all over the world means (Initial Public Offering). Whenever a new coin launched to the market, they come through ICO and whenever a new share launched to the market, they comes through IPO route. These are the two abbreviations and both have same meaning but both applied to different markets.

I think ICO is more friendly to common investors since you can buy some ICO tokens with less than $100, but you can not do that if you want to join the IPO.

They are almost the same, but the obvious difference is:
ICO IS INITIAL COIN OFFER
ICO COINS MAY BE SUBDIVIDED OR CONSOLIDATED. JUST LIKE ORDINARY CRYPTOCURRENCY COINS.
ICO IS YES  OPTIONS OF SUBDIVISIONS AND CONSOLIDATION
ICO IS SUITABLE FOR STARTUPS NEW BUSINESSES.
VS
EMERCOIN IPO IS PROTECTION OF INTERESTS THROUGH TRADITIONAL JURISDICTION BUT THESE ARE NO PRECEDENTS

IPO IS PROFITABLY OPERATING  BUSINESSES

I see ICO's now as the kickstarters of a few years ago. At least than you could invest in a kickstarter campaign for a real product or at least a demo product. What you see now with ICO's is that a lot of them (not all) tend to raise money on an idea, without even some guarantee that the idea is doable.

In my opinion, IPO is stage where by a private company lists stock on exchanges for the public, usually smaller private companies willing expand and improve their business and services. The company should as well provide liquidity. Investors buy in the aim of making profit.

Similarly, an ICO is stage whereby a company raises funds for a newly created cryptocurrency. The company should bring forward idea of the project in order to convince investors, in this case whiterpaper, technical document and the roadmap.

Early investors get bonuses, and funds will be used to develop the project further.

IPO or Initial Public Offering is a movement where company are introducing their product on the market also can be refer as Initial Product Offering.
ICO or Initial Coin Offering where company are raising funds to develop their on going project. They have product but not totally made or finish thats why they use ICO to fund it. Also know as Crowd funding.

Not true what you are saying. How do you else explain that facebook did an IPO 8 years after launching facebook.... It has to do with going up on the stock exchange and not about offering a product....
also ICO is not like a crowdfunding. Yes maybe both are same, people put money into unfinished product. But in crowdfunding the product, project and creator is more clear and most ICO going scam. someone post thread on bitcointalk about his/her coin, then people starting to invest but after the dev get money he/she can just take the money and leave his project without further development. ICO is more like donation

ICO is not regulated, means no rule to follow in terms of information disclosure and due diligence check, people invest for concept and vision and often, ICO company accumulates massive capital before product delivery. ICO investor don't own any share in the company. ICO is like, get money first then let's the product done. IPO is the opposite.

did you mean ipo chan?
lol sorry just kidding.
IPO is short for Initial Public Offering means Initial Public Offering shares a company to the general public. So the general public has the opportunity to buy after the IPO of the company's shares because before any IPO means the shares have not been traded in the stock market.
whereas ICO or Initial Coin Offering has recently been more and more intense since 2017, many developers are using this method to raise funds for the sake of developing their projects. Funds collected can reach millions of US dollars.
