Why administrators will not enter an icon for banned users? Many of them using account for airdrop and for other purposes. If icon will be they would not have had the opportunity use banned account.
slick greedy bounty hunters! Angry
so to avoid being reported by an active account, they used banned account to register airdrop

Adding "Banned" as a Rank makes it easy for scrapers too.
Making a "Banned" group would increase the work for the administration team.
how about a simple crossed rank or username? or red/grey colored username?
that wouldn't be so hard to code, just add a few lines to check banned status and put strike/color tag

I agree that new rank - " banned" would be a lot more usefull than just a icon . This would allow to scrape these ranks and make statisctics.

I believe that I already red somewhere response from admin to this and it was that tagging accounts after banning would mean more work for them. Possibly it can be implemented automatically then it could be realistic.

This idea has been hashed to death.

Making a "Banned" group would increase the work for the administration team.

We used to have it and moved away when we had members in five digits - now we have seven digits.  :/

How so? It would be automatic and come along with the permabanning.
I don't know how much coding is required for this feautre, but it would worth the effort, that's for sure...
If I know well, people report copypasters, but you cannot decide if a post has already been reported or not. It could save some time and some report for the members who report these kind of stuff.

Yes, I think about it too. A simple solution to make a status.  This will be a very useful function. Forum will get rid of using banned accounts and everyone will see banned accounts.

Or such a status option Jr. Member
I would go for this one as well...
It clearly shows that the user is permabanned and you can check what was his/her rank before he/she got banned.
Maybe you can make it red to be a bit more eye-catching, but this striked text is also good enough for me

Why would you want to know who got a temporary ban? As far as I'm concerned, that's something private between the user and the Mods.
By this, I can know potential shitty posters, unreliable guys, etc. Of course, forum users should be responsible on their judgemements on reliability, quality of others (they should spend their own time to find out), but if the forum can have a badge, which plays a role as early signal for newcomers, who don't have enough skills to do this, it might be great.

Recently, @Theymos has raised a badge 'contest' to find the most relevant for reporters.
Hence, I think it might be relevant to have a specific signal for temporary banned account, too.

But people can be banned for all sorts of reasons and some won't deserve to be tarnished by that forever and it could follow them around and effect people's opinion of them. I don't think theymos would implement that either out of fairness, just like trust isn't shown in irrelevant sections. Permabans are a different matter though and would be helpful for numerous reasons and most importantly would save staff and users time handling reports on users that are already banned.

Nevertheless, I think this potential icon should only apply for temporary banned accounts.

For permanently banned accounts, I suggest to nuke or delete them forever
Not all banned accounts are spammers, some have made useful posts in the past. Deleting those posts disrupts existing discussions, and doesn't do the forum any good.
If all posts are spam, a Mod sometimes goes through the post history and deletes hundreds of posts (example).

Idea is good. But I think admin don't want to expose them. As you suggest for temporary ban use a icon, it can be implement. Admin can consider it. For parmanent ban that means he can't use any more his/her account. It can't be delete because there is chance for appeal. On the other hand if delete parmanetly from server, banned people can create an account using previous email. That's prohibited by forum rule. You are not allow to create other account if you ban ( unless you need appeal).

I vote to keep temporary bans private.

This would be my favourite (I've mentioned it before, this time with edited screenshot):

Nice initiative, @LoyceV.

For permanently banned accounts, I suggest to nuke or delete them forever (of course, only do this months after the locking day without support tickets, complaints from locked-accounts' owners).

I believe that @Theymos and other forum staffs can create a bot to do this.

Well I like this one more than what OP's suggested badges  Cheesy

I think we really need to show banned users to other members, temporary or not. But of course, the ban sign should define whether the account is temporary banned or permanently banned. It is much better this way than seeing a lot of users complaining about their banned account and asking if they're Temp-Banned or Per-Banned. I know there's already a sign that signifies if a account were banned but the user is the only one who can be able to see it (but I think admin can also see it) and as we can see, these users still can't found out the status of their account.

Besides that, showing if a account is banned will save a lot of time to reporters. I know that it is still necessary to report a spam posts although the user is already banned but it will really save time if we just ignore banned accounts and focus more on existing spammers Smiley

I like your idea but here are some improvements:
Maybe it would be nice to remove color from user's name and make it inactive
And also remove his rank because of it doesn't have any sense anymore

And as an experiment, I added a ghost icon instead of the rank medals

Sometimes I find some copy-pasters spammers and I report and report them ´till I get exhausted. To take a look at the modlog page is kind of messy.

Any Idea, How many days data modlog.php contain? I am trying to find a reported user there but I did not find it in modlog.
User is also inactive for last 2 days.

I support this. It's a waste of time for both staff and users when we have to handle reports on members that are in fact already banned.

There used to be 5 red crosses for scammers, but I haven't seen any of those lately.

I forgot about this. This is exactly what I think should be shown for banned users, or just 'BANNED' is shown under their username or rank. We don't have to show temporary bans, but I think perma bans certainly should be.
