We really need to get some good SMF/VB/BB devs in here to make us some good BTC plugins.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

You would ban any user just because someone gives you 10 bucks? Good to know you have a price, and you're cheap.

I'll give you ten bucks in bitcoin to ban Atlas' #22 right now. Then he can see how effective his revolutionary new moderation plan is.

 Wink

Seriously though, this is what would end up happening. Anybody who stands out (in a good or bad way) would get banned eventually, and it would have be a really good forum to get people to pay even more to come back. Then you are losing all the ideas and discussion that person brings just because some jackass who skipped taco bell for a couple days banned him.

It may be effective in getting rid of a few people you don't like for whatever reason, but would it be worth losing all the others that would get banned by other random people who don't like them?

I mean, there would be some stupid noob who would do this to people like Phinnaeus or D&T when they got some terse answer they didn't like, for chrissake, not to mention LoupGaroux would be gone in a heartbeat and I would no longer have a master troll to learn from...

Lots of forums I'm on have something similar, but it's not a real ban, it's a donation ban. They're only temporary and it's "all in good fun" - although less pleasant people sometimes get annoyed.

Usually it's like 5$ for a 1-2 days, etc, so to maintain a true ban would be cost prohibitive, and is never an issue. Usually banned users still have read access, they just can't post, and anyone who can't take a day or two without posting needs mental help.

It's to support the forum and it's never been a problem anywhere else. I think it's a good idea if the forum needs donations.

So instead of having a system where complaints are laid and then on rare occasions people are actually banned.

Anyone can go ban whoever they like for whatever reason they like for 2 BTC and the person they banned has to then pay 4 BTC to get back in.

Wow - you really need to stay away from Silk Road ...

ROTFL

My first $10 would go to banning the OP.
Cheesy

I'd contribute to that cause.  Let's hope he has deep pockets to keep buying himself back in.
Something tells me Atlas' mommy and daddy aren't going to pay him thousands of dollars a week to feel relevant on a forum and fight everyone's obvious contempt for him.

Does anyone else find it odd how a self proclaimed freedom advocate/libertard (who never actually does any advocating) is constantly obsessed with bans and segregating the poor? What a poor confused ritalin ridden soul.

The only way this would end is with like, twelve dudes patting each other on the back and everyone else on Vlad's forum. Stupidest fucking idea I have ever heard.

Great. Lets turn this place into a giant echo chamber filled with people fellating each other over fear of getting banned. That's where good ideas are born...in giant circle jerks like SA. Right?

Aww....see I prob would have just been bought a ban for being a smartass...so yeah, id vote no...if this were an actual thing
An armed society is a polite society.

Hm, I guess it would be a good idea to let people ban the user(s) that banned them.

I don't know how you are going to get any type of community going with everyone getting banned the second they piss someone off.

The rich win control everywhere else in the world.  Do they really need to win control here too?
I don't think anyone has a inherent right to a say in a forum community. The people who are willing to invest money into it likely have the most to gain or lose out of anyone and they should have the ability to represent their desires with their own assets.

...but, hey, if you want "free" forum moderation, BitcoinTalk might be the place for you. I am not proposing this for this forum but for a new one.
Start one up, see how everyone likes it.  My guess is, they won't.

oh this is great, so i just make accounts, ban everyone. and they buy back i double my money each time. absolutely brilliant atlas
I don't see any problem with this.  You just bought out the forum, congrats. The community will just probably create a new one anyways.

I doubt many people will pay $20 to get back in though. You will likely suffer a huge loss so non-sequitur.
