The internet appeared not so long time ago and now it is playing big role in the life of all society. I don't think that we will be able to find some alternative to bitcoin in the case if the internet connection will be lost. In my brain appear only the idea of coming back to old methods of banking with gold and fiat and paper work.

Internet is an important network, but it is not THE network. This week, I made a presentation at a national military tech conference where someone made a presentation about a blockchain system in a field mobile military network. The exciting part was how a group of military units (could include armored vehicles, tanks, flying drones...etc.) can maintain secure communication system using a blockchain without internet connection. So, when internet goes off, you can cry like a pussy or stock up a military unit in your basement and run the blockchain with your tanks.
If internet network can get destroyed, it useful to have a few tanks, anyway (:

I guess that what they use in this case is an intranet and a private blockchain and they have devised such a system for cases in which the internet can fall and to make unauthorized access to their data more difficult.

The infrastructure needs to be modernized, because without proper security measures and safety plans, in the event of war there might really bad things happen for bitcoin, as a cryptocurrency.

I think it's okie when the maintenance turn back on the internet in the short of time, but if it is something last more than a day or permanently? Now we have a problem.
The solution depends on the maintenance and engineers of Google and internet. I think they already have backup when that happened and I think they will do their best to bring back the internet as soon as possible.

well, that's not going to be happen at all. Because if that happen bitcoin is not the business online will get affect but of course all bank companies would also get affected by it, and all business industry who are connected into internet access.Whole of the world depends upon the network and Internet and it is hard to believe that all this is totally dead. i don't think it's possible to move on the blockchain the same amount of data you can with your connection done by your ISP, would be fabulous to have the blockchain to act as a global internet 2.0 service
i guess could be done with the help of altcoin, one for each new service that you want to build on, would be like freenet, but with better trust here, miners node would act as trusted one for example

For example, you could use carrier pigeons to access the blockchain, but it would be slow, require someone to tally down the information for you, and you'd need to make sure the pigeons got fed.
Nevermind just Bitcoin of the internet network dropped many things would not work. Many security systems and servers for all sorts of things. You wouldn't be able to pay for anything or be paid. You would have to resort to trading untill the problem is fixed. The reprecussion would be inmmense. The whole world would grind to a halt.

Whether the hypothetical internet dying will cause much harm would depend on how much currency is already reliant on the internet. If it happened at and age where we no longer have physical fiat, then yes, that would cause a hell lot of problem. Even now when we still have cash, it already causes havoc when it goes down for a long time.
Though I suppose our experts will find a safeguard around such collapse. Maybe it would be possible to just use a local network for transactions and then just update information once the internet goes back. Of course this would only be a temporary solution, like emergency lights going on when power goes out.

People had been more dependent to the internet nowadays so by any chance that the networks freezes then the experts will provide all their knowledge and effort and fix the issue immediately.
The question is what could happen if the internet network were paralyzed today, I think that nothing could work out, banks couldn´t send money between then and even people wouldn´t be able to take their money out, the world would became chaotic.
