XRP. It is built to complement all currencies.

A majority of detractors still claim that Ripple is closed source (false):

https://github.com/ripple

Misinformation about the coin will clear up over time---and it is reasonable to assume its value with rise in turn.

It has a well funded company behind it, solves issues all cryptos face, and is likely to draw in more traditional investors.

Its pretty hard to buy ripple

You can get DeVCoin at probably its lowest price ever or thereabouts right now, and unlike those others you mentioned it is not one of the recent endless stream of scamcoins.

Are any of the others you mentioned even securable blockchains at all, or just scrypt etc waiting for miners to gangbang and/or 51% them?

Why Devcoin though? Bitcoin can probably do the job of Devcoin just fine in the future.

Actually I do not know of any exchanges anymore that have DVC/USD nor USD/DVC so devcoin is no longer a coin you can invest dollars into anyway.

If the original poster had provided a list of coins they are able to buy with dollars that would maybe help, since I would suggest the first coin to invest in if you are thinking of going on to branch out into things that are not being sold for dollars would be something like bitcoin or litecoin, because many coins are available to buy using those that are not available to buy using dollars.

Then once equipped with some litecoin or bitcoin, go on to start a thread asking what to invest bitcoin in or what to invest litecoin in...

i researched the forums for a couple of days and decided that datacoin is underpriced so i put a few hundreds there and maybe i will put a few more... But its a serious coin. Not a pump and dump so i dont believe it will be a fast money making story...

To be honest, Litecoin or Bitcoin is hard to increase its price many times as in the past.

However, I believe that it is possible to have a gain of 10000% profit (10 times) if I invest into Diamond (DMD). That coin has good new maintainers, nice features, fast (faster than Litecoin, more stable than WorldCoin), scarce and beautiful name. Especially, its price is too low now. It will be not that case in the next 2-4 months.

$100 USD is not enough. I have invested $826 in it. More in the future.

Is there even a site for it? Sounds to me like another Emerald

I would invest in Datacoin, the only Bitcoin based coin that does something useful.

iXcoin - The First Alternative to Bitcoin.

Been around since 2011, price has been going up since 2012.

Extremely secure,  hash rate about 1/4th of Bitcoin.

Personally I inested more than 100 USD to DEVCoin because it is so ridiculously cheap and it has potential only up. It is not a miracle if we see it giving us 10 000 times yield from its current level. Today it basically cost around zero dollars so the downside is not that much (or if the coin fails, of course your 100 bucks you invested in).
So just invest the amount you can afford to loose in the worst case and look the upside potential which is very probable from these childishly low levels. I wonder if the miners will even bother to sell these coins at these prices - why to sell iif you can waite a bit and get tons of more of them (or in worst case nothing).

If you invested in Litecoins on January when it was also close to 0, you would be rich by today in case you weren't sold them earlier.

If you are interested in making money in the short term: Invest in Litecoin. It will have a decent and most likely stable growth in 2014.
If you are interested in making money in the short term and are willing to risk your money on a meme that will most likely die out, given enough time: mine some doggies or buy them. There are enough kiddos around here that hype the coin enough so that you have good chances of high profit in Q1/Q2 2014, given that the meme isn't dead by then.

If you are interested in making money in the middle/longer term: I would put my money on both stablecoin and worldcoin, as they are pretty similar in their concepts, one being anonymous (if ever established a good candidate for the deep web) and the other being open and getting a lot of support, including soon-to-come direct exchanges to USD, which, to my limited knowledge, is only possible for Bitcoin and Litecoin so far. Both will however need some time and more mining in order to get a mining difficulty (i.e. the reward) that is low enough in order for the price to adjust.

Long-term? Make a bet.

Right now I'd pick DOGE because it's had a massive popularity explosion.

If I could wait a little while I'd probably just invest in something obvious and steady like bitcoin or litecoin, whenever the price dips.
