If i where desperate in need for the money i will go full into the bitcoin because if you trade everyday a couple of times you will make money but not fast with small amounts every trade that is also nice.
I have this habit of saving my money on a piggy bank. Whether it's a coin or paper I will put it on my piggy.

In desperate condition, i will try my best to get loan from my friends. If it becomes impossible, then i would try to sell my bitcoins but with half heart.
I think before trying to borrow money would be better if you sell your valuables can you sell, to avoid losses because of high interest when you borrow money, but I do not think that your friend will give you the loan interest?If really the friends are good ones, they will be happy to help you with interest free loans thereby helping you to make very good relationship to bind more stronger. If I had some time to earn the money then I would just take an extra job because that is how you can make it the easiest way possible. If I did not have the time I would take a loan.

Bitcoin can really be of help in such emergencies as you mentioned, but only if someone have saved some of it, mostly people just spend the money they earn but do not save anything out of it and those people get in much trouble when they face a situation like that and then they regret why they did not save anything.
If a person have managed to save fiat or bitcoin then this situation of needing money desperately will never arise as he knows that he have enough money with him that can take care in this situation.

I think fiends shouldn`t take any interest, it`s friendship. If anyone borrow money with interest from a friend is not friend at all. That is my simple conclusion.
