When I subscribe to a thread to be notified of a new reply. I don't receive an email notification when there is a new post

I'm talking about
Notify>Are you sure you wish to enable notification of new replies for this topic?

And yes I have
PROFILE>Notifications and Email>Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply.

Well as for me I normally receive notification from gambling discussion thread which I created since. But when I received the notification in the email, they normally warn me that if I did not view the link I would not receive notification from BTT again so for that I always view the comments from the notification link. That is the only notification that I am seeing. I did that thing when I was still a member rank. And now I have even forgotten the steps I used in setting the notification to my email. So I even need the steps again to do others.

Therefore, probably you are not receiving notifications because  you are not following the instructions of the email. Because if you follow the instructions of the email I definitely believe that you must have receiving the notification in your email from all the threads you registered.  So you can reset your notification or you can view the link from the email sent to you.

@TheBeardedBaby

Thanks, you give me an idea. I could use the bot to probably make a rule ">>>if telegram's notifivation>>>send email"
The second email you used, was it a private or a public one? Because it doesn't seem to make a difference to me.

It doesn't really matter what email you going to use. I created a "fresh" one just to be sure that no spam will pollute the notifications and add just another security tier, random generated password stored in the password manager.
So you want to receive only emails? Telegram notifications are very quick in response and you can watch/unwatch a thread very easy, ( thank you @TryNinga) and telegram working in background do take some battery life but for me it's worth it.

I love Seiko too Tongue love watches in general, don't like the smart ones, they are useful but no charm like the ticking sound of the movement of the REAL watch. But the way of living is pushing me to have a smart one that's why I only have a smartband.

You can use TryNinja's Telegram bot for Topics tracking. Much more reliable for sure.
Combining this solution with a smartwatch is all you will ever need.

In Addition, Incase OP is unaware of how to get notified on your Smartwatch. You can check fillippone's famous guide #meritislife: how to be notified on a smartband of merits and mentions

Instead, Click on Watch.

Indeed, I can confirm that Watch button/feature is working well for me too (for another topic, but that doesn't matter).

I had the same issue. I setup a second email only for the notifications, and set up a rule, to forward all the incoming emails from bitcointalk to the notification email and worked fine for a while. Noticed that the notification mails are coming quite late after a post is made sometimes you wait days, so I just gave up on that solution.

@LeGaulois, Not sure if it will work for you or not. But, here is how I get notified for every reply on a specific topic.
I didn't try the notify feature. Instead, Click on Watch. You should receive an email whenever a reply posts on the specific thread. If OP locks and unlocks the thread, you will also get notified. Two days ago, I was checking Hodlonaut Trial thread but didn't understand what people were talking about. I didn't have spare time to read the reference provided on the OP, So I tried the Watch button. Later, I started getting emails whenever people replied on that topic. Let me know if it works for you.

I recognize the IP, so I would say Bitcointalk uses a dedicated IP with the mail system.
However, an IP listed as "evil" is not blocked but just moved to the spam folder. That has always been the case with my previous email and the current one.

It depends on the service and how they weight spam. Are they just using a few blacklists or are they running SpamAssassin and Cyren and Message Sniffer while using the reputation of other IPs in the subnet? Do they run enough tests to say, 1 to 4 fails it's delivered 5 to 10 it's put into spam and 11+ it's blackholed.

Since you are getting SOME I can see them running some word / pattern matching and if it fails it's either bounced or dumped.
I would ping out to theymos to see if he can get you the SMTP logs from the delivery server, if it shows as being delivered to your provider then you can reach out to their support, if not then theymos / staff have to fix the problem anyway. We can talk about it here but we can't really fix it....

edit

I noticed that I didn't receive an email for the new posts today, however, I subscribed

thanks for the test.
(I'm clicking "notify" for this topic to see what will happen)

trying today to click the "notify" button it appears I unsubscribed, while not...

I still believe the problem is not from my side, I subscribed to several threads and it works in 10% of the cases

As for the guy above @PX-Z

I don't receive email and don't Know how to enable notification.

It's actually a very easy thing to do, I think a visual representation of the process will explain better.

STEP 1:
At the top right or button right of your page you'll see the "notify" option there.

STEP 2:
Click on the "notify" and you'll see a pop-up message asking you to confirm it.

Note: that's if the thread has already been created.

you can also enable it during the creation of a topic.

STEP 1:
Click on the "+Additional options..."

STEP 2:
Make sure the checkbox of "notify me of new replies" is checked.

that's it you're good to go.

I don't know if the forum sends email from one IP or a pool but the one I have been getting mail from is on the SORBS blacklist:

Code:
Return-Path:
Received: from omail.bitcointalk.org (omail.bitcointalk.org [52.45.214.107]) by mail.xxx.xxx with SMTP;
Wed, 21 Sep 2022 12:25:59 -0400
Received: by omail.bitcointalk.org (Postfix, from userid 48)
id 845FA8A3FC3; Wed, 21 Sep 2022 16:29:29 +0000 (GMT)

Taking a look at: 52.45.214.107

https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a52.45.214.107&run=toolpage

You can check SORBS here: http://www.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml

The IP has been listed for years, *BUT* I have seen it pop on and off other blacklists, so your provider may occasionally see more then one and block mail from the forum.

May not be the issue here, but I have seen it happen.

I don't receive email and don't Know how to enable notification.
Use the "notify" button in the upper right of every thread, this way you will receive email notifications on every reply. As long as you are using a gmail account as your forum's email ad, you will not experience this kind of issue like OP did.

Up.

Tested several topics I subscribed to since. None of them sent me an email. I will try with a personal email but seeing I'm not the only one with the problem, I'm pretty sure it comes from the Bitcointalk server, IP, or I don't know what...

@Jack
Yeah, I checked the spam folder as well.

If Theymos could check about https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/E-Mails_-_Why_are_members_not_getting_emails_sent_from_the_forum

edit 1: changed my email to see what it will do

edit 2: Alright, it works with another email (topic notification as well PM notification)
So some email providers don't receive emails coming from Bitcointalk.org and for some, it works only for a few weeks (as mentioned in the quote above). I still believe it comes from Bitcointalk, otherwise, the system (to send emails) wouldn't stop working after a few days. Email providers don't blacklist domain names depending of the weather forecast

edit 3: it doesn't work for some topics, or I shall say it already stopped to work

I don't receive email and don't Know how to enable notification.

thanks for the test.
(I'm clicking "notify" for this topic to see what will happen)

Yes, it could come from my email provider. To be honest I'm lazy to change my email to check and after reading the post below, it seems I'm not the only one

@admins of this forum.
The notification system on this forum should definitely be looked at. We are subscribed for notifications, it works for a few weeks, and then all of sudden we are cut off, and don't receive any new notifications, even though we are still subscribed. This is already the 3rd time this has happend. Any suggestions on how to overcome this are highly appreciated.

it works for a few weeks for them but not at all for me, not a single notification

This is mostly to test whether or not notify works again but have you checked your spam/junk folder? Is guess if you use notify, receive emails but don't click on them and just find the topic then you might end up with them just being sent to your spam folder (or equivelant).

My notifications weren't working for a few hours yesterday but I think that was just me having bad signal and my email provider not downloading them when I had good signal.

I just use the same feature for this thread and i did receive a notification after your first reply @LeGaulois (i enabled it after jackg replied)

If you didnt receive an email notif even for personal messages i guess this is something to your email provider. I used gmail and i see no problem on it. Maybe you are using different provider which has error routing emails as of the moment.

Nothing else, if you haven't read the other replies. Once you visit the topic and read all the new replies it restarts to 0. It's to avoid receiving 30 notifications because 30 users posted a reply

I just tried to send a PM to myself and still did not receive an email notification

Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply.

Does it not send one notification if you have that enabled but then nothing else normally? (I've never used it and have read it two different ways already).

Have you checked you get normal notifications by unchecking that or do you not want your inbox being too clogged by testing that.
