What do you mean by "could be". Smiley

I think that Ivory Tower is disorganised by design. It is for senior members, and I hope they can be trusted to behave responsibly. It's for a general mix of topics that are likely to be of interest to the more intelligent members here (now that's a provocative statement ).

I was thinking about this project. Bitcointalk is a place where we can talk to people from all over the world, and I believe most of the members are libertarians. (Except spammers and shitposts that are only chasing some easy money)

At least in South America we lack of organized (or even a disorganized) group or forum where libertarians can talk and share experiences. This forum could be a place where discussions go beyond merits, campaigns and cryptocurrencies. But ivory tower is too disorganized.

Glad to help.
I will keep an eye on your library.

Maybe you could create a topic here where you post the updates? It would be easy to track

@bitmover

I gave you some merit for your trucker post in the Ivory Tower, and I've opened the Library at The source, and I linked to your post as the first entry there.

Thanks for giving me the chance to experiment with this sub-project.

I need to do a lot more formatting there, and make a few deletions and additions, but I've got a feel for the possible structure.

Same, I can't stop giving merits to people all around the forum. I even gave away some of my posts and forum ranks too...

It's posters/bots like this that make the job difficult. They are like Medusa's heads.

Maybe the answer is to give a 7 day sig ban to the sponsor, rather than trying to cut off the heads.

This is a bot. No human would say something like that.

In reddit there are really nice bots.
Some bots correct spelling mistakes. Others always redirect to posts related to the subject that are highly upvoted.
Others track some companies names and say something useful about them.... Some would even get some merits here.

There is a very nice bot there called !Remind Me. You just type" !Remind Me 1 year" or X days whatever. And he sends you a private message redirecting to that post when the time comes.

But these bots here are like ghosts, they make no sense at all.

Why can't we have nice bots? Lol

I believe that from 2016, with the election of Donald Trump and brexit, politics has entered a new phase all over the world. Even here in Brazil, now we have for the first time a conservative candidate leading all presidential polls (we always had leftists in government and opposition).

But I don't see much discussion about politics here. What kind of posts are you seeking ?

I'm not looking for post here, but we did hope that a guy from Brazil was going to submit a Portuguese post for translation, and re-posting in this forum, but he seems to have disappeared.

I'd be interested in the political situation in Brazil, in particular the impact of the truckers strike, maybe you could post something in the Ivory Tower to avoid it sinking into the swamp.

Not an easy task. I hope that helps your project.

Do good things
Creating one of those spam threads but removing the spamming incentive strikes me as a good way to centralize potential meritable posts. If you have a requirement that posters need to be member or full member (potentially making it higher than that could have an unwanted chilling effect and the benefit of less spammers would be outweighed by the detriment to posts reported) AND had to report other users posts, then that would reduce the amount of begging, although there will likely still be the determined few.

Have you gone through other peoples merit-me threads? I've seen a list of active ones, however inactive ones would likely produce results, its just they would be dated. That way some of the work is done for you (as you can see what has already been merited or not).

Honestly, those ''spam'' threads are your best bet - that way you'll find at least 2 out of 10 posts that are worth a merit.

If you look at the rest of the forum you find maybe 1 in a 100 (looking at you, ANN threads)

Kudos for caring about the distribution of merits though, a lot of us that signed up after the merit system got implemented need it badly, especially from older users like yourself, because the rest of the users are too concerned with trading their merits or at least go with the ''you owe me one'' mentality and therefore a lot of actually good posts get no merits

I see Bitcoin as a store of wealth, and I can't bring myself to spend any coins.
Can't blame you there.  Why spend bitcoin when you can get rid of your fiat first?

As far as the post search goes, I feel your frustration even though I'm not a merit source myself.  Having sMerits is like holding a hot potato sometimes, and right now I'd like to give out what I have to some lower-ranked members instead of the usual members I leave them for.  If I don't find some really good posts by members under Sr. Member rank, I'll probably just give them out to the Meta regulars--it's irrational, I know.  The sMerits I have aren't going to explode and I can be patient and take my time looking for good posts, but that's just me.

Think I'm going to un-ignore Bitcoin Discussion and see if I can find some gems.

@Jet Cash, no offense, but if you don't have enough time to search for Merit worthy posts or it's to difficult to find it, maybe you shouldn't be a Merit source? You are great user of this forum and you have many ideas how to improve this forum, but I see that you have problems to spend your monthly sMerit supply.
But I like your idea. I have something similar in my minds. We have a "Report to moderator" button, maybe we also need "Report to merit source". Users would just report good unmerited posts to Merit sources. I think it would be a help for Merit sources and they would need to spend less time while searching for high quality posts.
P.S. Jet Cash, why you aren't using your Talk merit account when you talk about merit?

I've added a community workplace to The Source, and I'm considering asking responsible members to submit post suggestions. Do you think this is a good idea? Alternatively, can anybody think of a solution that can be implemented in this forum, and will not generate a load of spam and redundant comments.
- What's the guarantee that the posts suggested by responsible members will be constructive? I mean you wouldn't find all of them constructive for sure considering the subjectivity of the posts.
 - Try and merit posters in the Development & Discussion and Technical Support Section. You often come across good posters there.

I am alive but in hibernation.
Then you can start your merit awarding thread, in which you can limit the user to give only 2 best post to review during a week.
Since "Joe" signature less challenge is in suspended state so you can run a one. (or both can run together.)

We are Bitcoin!
Personally, I think it's getting harder to get merits. I used to get 2-3 per day easily, and I am now getting them at a much lower rate. I made a very nice post some other day which I expected to get at least 10 merits and got none.
My personal experience is, I am getting decent amounts of merits regularly now where at the very beginning the ratio was too low for me. I did not get much even not very long ago.

However, I do believe overall merit receiving will reduce as we go ahead. There will not be many merit abusing/misusing cases.

Do you want that we post here our comments that we think deserve merit?

I think that sMerits are more centralized in merit sources and high merited members, and our posts are now less exposed to members who could merited them.

I want to create some sites to push for a real Brexit, and to distance the UK from the globalists. I'll be using some of the CMS that I have been experimenting with, and B2evo is an important one of these. Exploring the structure of the packages, and the way they can be used takes a fair bit of time, and is easiest if you have a project to focus on. Bitcoin Talk has provided a number of these, and once they are stabilised, they are not much effort to keep going. It doesn't take long to knock out a few post and articles every day.

Well thanks for the kind words, but there is quite a lot of self-interest in my actions. When I first joined the forum, I had all sorts of ideas about the things I would do with Bitcoin, and how I could improve the structure of the blockchain. Smiley I've changed a bit, and now I see Bitcoin as a store of wealth, and I can't bring myself to spend any coins. I'm also interested in the new digital currencies when they arrive, and I think that there will be some great discussions here about them.

I'm also starting to improve the income from some of my sites, and I hope that will become even larger when I start to be politically active.

I've got a fair number of projects on the go at the moment, and I don't think I am awarding enough merits to warrant the time spent hunting for posts. I've seen the threads that ask for post suggestions, and they turn into spam fests, and I don't think they are productive. I'm not able to restrict posting to threads I create, and self moderation is extra work, and can be a bit of a political tightrope. I've added a community workplace to The Source, and I'm considering asking responsible members to submit post suggestions. Do you think this is a good idea? Ablsolutly you are spending much time on forum since I am following you. Also I think that you deserve more merit  for your nice and constructive work for this forum. Sure you will get it. You are one of most helpful person on this forum. Keep it up to help more.

This is probably a good time to explain what I am up to, and why I am spending time on these projects. I believe we are heading into some major changes in banking and world economies, and we will see the failure of much of the current fiat money. Governments and banks will be introducing new pseudo-crypto currencies, and I think that Bitcoin Talk could be a great place to discuss these. To do this, there will have to be some radical changes, and we will have to lose the 'posters' who can only speak in pictures.

I want to create some sites to push for a real Brexit, and to distance the UK from the globalists. The Library project was started for two reasons. I do need to reduce the time I spend looking for meritable posts, and I wanted to see if I could set up a category with a different skin on the B2evo site.  The library uses a forum like community discussion skin, and submissions can be restricted to registered members of the community. The library of submitted threads could be available for general viewing, and I think this could help junior members who want to see examples of merited posts. I won't copy the original post, but will just provide a link, and hopefully this will avoid any copyright issues. Hopefully it will also improve the image of Bitcoin Talk. It seems that the flood of posts referring to it as an easy way to get money by posting rubbish has tarnished the image a bit. I've installed the skin and activated it, and I'll customise it a bit tomorrow.
