I think that self promotion should be done by telling people about your skill and how good you are. You can give discounts or charge very low in the beginning to create awareness in the public, because people from my country patronize cheap servives as long as it is a reliable one. You need to advertise yourself, or get someone to manage you. That person will be the one to look for clients for you. You might be good or an expert in your skill but you might not be a good promoter.

Considering the kind of competitive economy that we find ourselves in globally, getting only skillset isn't enough, how you're able to market your skillset such that in the midst of others that have similar quality like you, you still stand out and gain more advantage than them is what's also very important.
Getting the skill set is just one part of the job, the other important side of the job is making that skill set valuable that is being able to attract and keep customers who need your skill sets, It becomes the most difficult thing to do because you are not the only person who has the skill that you have and your customers are exposed to all persons having this same skill sets if you are unable to keep them satisfied, this is why you need to understand the kind of business that you are in and know what people who have been successful in it did. A way to have this experience is to ask advice from someone who is in this field and has more experience than you to help you with tips on how you can be successful and avoid some pitfalls while in the business. The experience of another person will be very valuable to the success of your business that involves your skill sets if you really take it.

What's your view on this? How important is gaining knowledge on the business behind whatever craft you're doing?
It is as important as the business itself and it can't be overemphasized about having knowledge of any business you want to do. You may wonder why do already made business men like Aliko Dangote, Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg etc still pay to attend business symposiums and seminars. They want to stay up ahead with acknowledgement of  what and where the new market competition is directed at and how to stay ahead of their counterpart.  You may have talent in your area of craft but to stay top-notch and unique hence the need for acquisition of knowledge through more learning.

I watched a video by a content creator that talked about creating videos like his fellow content creators on Facebook and YouTube but had better revenue than them even though some of them had more views and engagement than him. It all balls down to understanding the business behind the content creation and going beyond mere creation of content to understanding how best to benefit from the monetization incentive.

It makes me realize that it's not just about being a good web developer or the best designer or content writer or even one with the biggest farm plantation that really matters. It's about understanding the business behind whatever craft you have or that you're doing that matters more. With better understanding of the business of your craft, you could outscale your competitors that might have better resource than you have at your disposal.

You were very informative about the need to use your craft to understand the business side. Especially in today's highly competitive economy. It's not just about talent. How we present and market these skills can make a huge difference in our success.

From my experience Having a thorough understanding of business strategy helps individuals maximize their potential, for example by knowing how to position themselves in the market. Understand the target group And using marketing strategies can elevate your career from good to desired. I've seen this in many ways. From technology to the world of creativity Those who understand how to acquire their talents often outperform those who do not. and regardless of knowledge

There's an interesting fact about this discussion.

If you're really good web developer, but you didn't understand how to run a business from your skill, you can still earn good amount of money, although it doesn't make you big and become rich.

If you're just a mediocre web developer, but you understand how to run a business from your skill, you not able to earn as big as a good web developer because the clients can find many people who better than you.

What does this mean? you need to have both skills and how to sell your skills if you want to become rich.

Indeed, good skills would normally yield better results. Nevertheless, to be really skilled and generate wealth Understand the market for that set of skills.

I would say that, in both, it is a learning process. Great engineers are not only the masters of the latest technology; in this case, one must also invest time in learning best customer management, communications, and marketing strategies. Both open interesting opportunities.

Furthermore, developing partnerships and partnerships in the industry also bolsters marketing capacity for developers. Work with others Attend a workshop Or, participate in online communities that would give them a perspective on talent development and business strategy.

Absolutely, you need to be able to market yourself and your abilities, or get together with a marketeer to market your abilities.
Business grows by adding. Not for nothing the share system is made to add shares and values to companies. One person is hardly ever successful, they have bundles of co-conspirators Wink

Social media have contributed to a small - narrow mindedness. Where one influencer makes bundles and you only find out later that he/she bought, founded more businesses. Digging deeper is where many fail.
