I often discuss the importance of marketing. It's important to let people know about your business, skill, or product. No matter how good a product is, the world won't know if it's not marketed properly. For you to market properly, you have to understand the market.
Most times, people just say "Get a skill". Getting the skill is hard, but after getting the skill, getting jobs is also hard. You have to connect with the right people before you can get jobs and level up.

When you understand how the market works, you will be able to market yourself properly.
So as you're learning the skill or starting the business, I agree that it's also important to pay attention to the industry or market you're operating in so you'll be able to navigate your affairs properly. That's why it is advisable to get a coach or mentor or just someone more experienced than you in the field to put you through. Doing things on your own can be very difficult.

Skill education comes with different plans and approach, all this is covered with modern marketing strategy and if anyone can build his/her skill towards a quality approach will definitely grow bigger. Like the example set why do we always think people go extra miles just to market their goods or why do people earn more when they’re both in same field rendering same service. There’s more attached to this including skill development, no one can be perfect likewise no one can earn huge without developing a skill, it must be together that’s the major reason people do better compared to others.
For example understanding the craft is important and totally different from marketing, both must have to be practiced for more experience, there’s this saying an experienced individual has what it takes to make progress.
Like that of the content creator I believe he understood what viewers want so he/she can focus fully in that area, personally I don’t give much attention to most online videos but when it comes to what I love watching I give my attention, we’ve all experienced same thing in most situations random videos pop up we just skip.

Yes, that's absolutely true, gaining knowledge about the work behind any craft you do is very important for success in any field you work in, as well as gaining the trust of customers and getting a good return.

In my opinion, love is also very necessary for success in any work, when you love what you are working on, you will definitely succeed because you will be creative in it, understand it completely and find enjoyment in it.

For example, I loved Bitcoin and Crypto, so I find enjoyment in working in this field, unlike my friends who I told about Bitcoin and found it very difficult because they did not like it and did not understand it, so they left the field early, while I have continued for several years until now and I am very happy.

Considering the kind of competitive economy that we find ourselves in globally, getting only skillset isn't enough, how you're able to market your skillset such that in the midst of others that have similar quality like you, you still stand out and gain more advantage than them is what's also very important.

I watched a video by a content creator that talked about creating videos like his fellow content creators on Facebook and YouTube but had better revenue than them even though some of them had more views and engagement than him. It all balls down to understanding the business behind the content creation and going beyond mere creation of content to understanding how best to benefit from the monetization incentive.

It makes me realize that it's not just about being a good web developer or the best designer or content writer or even one with the biggest farm plantation that really matters. It's about understanding the business behind whatever craft you have or that you're doing that matters more. With better understanding of the business of your craft, you could outscale your competitors that might have better resource than you have at your disposal.

What's your view on this? How important is gaining knowledge on the business behind whatever craft you're doing?

I think if you extrapolate on this a little bit more it'd be better. In my experience having knowledge of many different sectors can greatly increase your earning potential and you can find that skills can overlap or be cross compatible. If your main skill is being a programmer, but you want to grow a successful website by yourself, eventually you might start learning to design graphics or start optimizing your content for search engines, maybe even start generating clips on youtube to bring in traffic - it can all be interlinked. If the website struggles to take off, but the youtube videos soar in popularity you can decide that it makes more sense to put your effort into that instead. This is the epitome of the entrepreneurial mindset, try and fail until you come up with an often unique magic formula for success.

That depends on your niche. Years ago when I wanted to earn money via YouTube, I was doing lots of research and found that the medical niche pays the most. A person with a YouTube channel in a medical niche will have 10 and sometimes 100 times higher CPC or PPV.

I am a UI/UX designer and I have been in touch with many customers. They simply want the product, they don't care about your wireframes, prototypes, or user personas, they want to see the live product with a minimalistic design. People often think that fancy designs and lots of animations or graphical content will get them hired but that's not true.

If there's anything I have learnt about business and skill and how to succeed is marketing, you can have a very good skill more than your competitors, but if you don't know how to market that  skill you will still be getting less offer compared to how your competitors are getting. You can also have that marketing skill and don't have much higher knowledge compared to your colleagues, but you can still be successful and be doing very well.

I think that self promotion should be done by telling people about your skill and how good you are. You can give discounts or charge very low in the beginning to create awareness in the public, because people from my country patronize cheap servives as long as it is a reliable one. You need to advertise yourself, or get someone to manage you. That person will be the one to look for clients for you. You might be good or an expert in your skill but you might not be a good promoter.

Getting the skill set is just one part of the job, the other important side of the job is making that skill set valuable that is being able to attract and keep customers who need your skill sets, It becomes the most difficult thing to do because you are not the only person who has the skill that you have and your customers are exposed to all persons having this same skill sets if you are unable to keep them satisfied, this is why you need to understand the kind of business that you are in and know what people who have been successful in it did. A way to have this experience is to ask advice from someone who is in this field and has more experience than you to help you with tips on how you can be successful and avoid some pitfalls while in the business. The experience of another person will be very valuable to the success of your business that involves your skill sets if you really take it.

It is as important as the business itself and it can't be overemphasized about having knowledge of any business you want to do. You may wonder why do already made business men like Aliko Dangote, Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg etc still pay to attend business symposiums and seminars. They want to stay up ahead with acknowledgement of  what and where the new market competition is directed at and how to stay ahead of their counterpart.  You may have talent in your area of craft but to stay top-notch and unique hence the need for acquisition of knowledge through more learning.

You were very informative about the need to use your craft to understand the business side. Especially in today's highly competitive economy. It's not just about talent. How we present and market these skills can make a huge difference in our success.

From my experience Having a thorough understanding of business strategy helps individuals maximize their potential, for example by knowing how to position themselves in the market. Understand the target group And using marketing strategies can elevate your career from good to desired. I've seen this in many ways. From technology to the world of creativity Those who understand how to acquire their talents often outperform those who do not. and regardless of knowledge

There's an interesting fact about this discussion.

If you're really good web developer, but you didn't understand how to run a business from your skill, you can still earn good amount of money, although it doesn't make you big and become rich.

If you're just a mediocre web developer, but you understand how to run a business from your skill, you not able to earn as big as a good web developer because the clients can find many people who better than you.

What does this mean? you need to have both skills and how to sell your skills if you want to become rich.

Indeed, good skills would normally yield better results. Nevertheless, to be really skilled and generate wealth Understand the market for that set of skills.

I would say that, in both, it is a learning process. Great engineers are not only the masters of the latest technology; in this case, one must also invest time in learning best customer management, communications, and marketing strategies. Both open interesting opportunities.

Furthermore, developing partnerships and partnerships in the industry also bolsters marketing capacity for developers. Work with others Attend a workshop Or, participate in online communities that would give them a perspective on talent development and business strategy.

Absolutely, you need to be able to market yourself and your abilities, or get together with a marketeer to market your abilities.
Business grows by adding. Not for nothing the share system is made to add shares and values to companies. One person is hardly ever successful, they have bundles of co-conspirators Wink

Social media have contributed to a small - narrow mindedness. Where one influencer makes bundles and you only find out later that he/she bought, founded more businesses. Digging deeper is where many fail.
