Yeah true, I got to know about bitcoin from friends, buying and selling altcoins for profit then, but soon I learnt about faucets giving out free satoshis, back then when microwallet faucets were really good, so I tried it and got 0.01 at the end of the week.

That was enough to get me started, learning about bitcoin investments, and how some 'bitcoin growing methods' are scam the hard way, but nonetheless, I knew more about bitcoin through these. Faucets are useful for beginners, but I agree that there are way too many out there. Good faucets should stay to guide newbies, so it can still help bitcoin. Smiley

Faucets are not bad for bitcoin because faucets are the indicator that most of the people have learned about bitcoin.

A lot of the people who defend faucets here are saying that it gives people bitcoins to possibly play around with. But how are you supposed to "play around" with a couple microbits? Plus, define "playing around". You can't do much with the microbits that you couldn't do without them; just study bitcoin and ask people for potential questions.

When BTC started, nobody had any and it was worthless, so it was right to give away thousands of BTC to make it popular. All that has changed. Now that BTC's worth something, now that companies are building on BTC, now that serious business transactions are made with bitcoin, it's about time for faucets to adapt.

BTC is real. It's money, and you've got to work to earn some. I hope all faucets will disappear in 2015. Faucets are hurting bitcoin by making some people believing you can get it while doing nothing sitting in your home. No, BTC isn't like that, and it shouldn't be any easier to get than any fiat currency. Even for small amounts.

Who made any money from faucets? Those re good only for new entrants to test how the system works and I consider them more as a promotional tool, marketing.
You can't really play with them much as well since they reward you with only so many bitcoins to cover the fees of a single transaction.
Some faucet uses Xapo API to directly send the Bitcoins to the Xapo account. This isn't the perfect solution as it sacrifices the privacy of the user. Xapo does cover the TX fee for the user but I'm not too sure about smaller amounts, I know coinbase requires users to pay fee for very small transactions. It does give the user an experience of using Bitcoin as the user sends the Bitcoin from Xapo.

I don't believe faucets are bad for bitcoin, the people who are hosting those faucet sites get money out of the advertisement as well. I see it as a win win situation. Both parties get something out of it and it's fun to collect some free satoshi every now and then. I stopped doing them daily because I don't believe it's worth it to spend all my time collecting when I could be doing something else worthy of my time. I would recommend faucets to people who are just beginning with bitcoin.

But the real problem with faucets is people are collecting many small amounts of satoshi into some considerable mBTC, then they are selling it in exchange on regular basis. Already all the exchanges are facing selling pressure from miners, with them these faucet collectors joining to make bitcoin prices to go down.

There are very less chances for the possibility like you have mentioned. Because up to my experience, faucets do not pay enough satoshi to trade in an exchange. May be possible after a year long working with faucets.

I'm not able to make a single mBTC for a week hard work along with faucets. I wonder how it's possible for some one else to get decent amount of satoshi from faucets itself. I want to know what faucets people are using.

Although filling captchas for a long time can be very boring and tedious job but it can give you some decent amount of btc to start off. When I was a newbie here iused to earn more Bitcoin from faucets than my signature campaign here Smiley

With the worst signature payout you can earn 10k sat for message so far.
With a good faucet (moonbit) you need at least 4 claim in 24 hours to get this amount.
Are you sure about this ? I think that signature are much much better than faucet!

If you use rotator and visit various faucets, you can earn lots of Satoshi.I used to earn 25k Satoshi in two hours from faucets while I needed more time to post here thread related post

it really bored use to fill captcha to get small amounts of btc.
25k sat in 2 hours :O it's a really small amount,
with signature you can make 5 easy post in one hour (there are some signature that pay j.member also for off topic / local post!)
when you become a more "old" user you can earn much much more from a signature campaign... 55k for every post... 4 hours of faucet work!
Some works are payed more than 50 $ per hours ... I think that my time worth more than a couple of satoshi Wink
Also with betting... @ 1.05 ... place 0,01 btc you get easily 40k satoshi...

As promised I tested how long it took to earn 25k Satoshi, and it take 6+ minutes for 18223 satoshi. This is just an example, depends on many factors, but does not require hours.

25k satoshi in 2 hours is completely untrue, for that amount you need less than 10 minutes claiming faucets in rotator and that the rewards is 1000+ satoshi.Tomorrow when I'm going through the list of faucets I will measure the time it takes to make 25k Satoshi.
I agree that the signature campaign is a good source of income, but can be combined all, signature+faucets or sport betting Smiley
Do you know in earlier days some faucets used to give 1 bitcoin per claim? The amount of reward in faucets depends on the rate of bitcoin at that time.If bitcoin rate to dollar is low, you get more reward,it is the other way around when bitcoin rate is high. When I first learnt about bitcoin,1 btc was less than 200 $ so most faucets gave 1000 sat per claim

I know that when Bitcoin was practically worthless faucet are paid very big prizes, maybe in the future faucets will pay only 10 satoshi if price of BTC go very high.
