It would certainly be a great alternative over payments by phone credit, those fees are pretty huge.
But I'm not sure if Bitcoin is mainstream enough already for that to work.

An altcoin called Hyper was created for this very reason. There are servers set-up that players can do in game transactions using hyper in minecraft and I think there are some counter strike servers that award hyper based on performance. Finally, there is a game called dragonknights of valeria (I think) that award hyper and other in game currencies for chatting in the game and completing task like leveling. This doesn't answer your direct question, but it's neat to think that maybe Hyper will be the bitcoin of the gaming world and maybe start paying for game subscriptions using hyper or bitcoin would be awesome!

I wonder how much the price would increase if something like league of legends accepted bitcoins as a payment method, bitcoin would go crazy, im pretty sure. Anyways in the future more and more companies will accept bitcoin, although because of its volatility it's somewhat risky.

What if your playing League of legends then your earning bitcoin what do you think? hehe but I think bitcoin and LOL would be a good tandem, and I think even in many kind of games services of bitcoin is great.

That's how the game developers make there most money through InApp purchases take Candy Crush for example they built an empire with just that game.

I know.

call me old-school controversial stupid, but I prefer to buy game for 4.99USD (or any amount) from store, than get it "for free" and then pay for some gems or other digital goods, which makes the game somehow playable and little bit enjoyable.

I am playing Stronghold Kingdoms both on Windows PC and on android tablet. You can purchase firefly crowns in game using Bitcoin there no problem. I am buying crowns every month, and transaction is  instant and without any problem. Few of us was asking that constantly on forum and contacting game support for a while, true, but they finally make that possible before few months.

The reason for InApp purchases so the game developers say is the blatant piracy of their games which maybe true but some of the games have advertisments unless you purchase items to remove them gets very tedious.

Actually this is their way of coping up with their games being pirated. As soon as the installer has been pirated, income stops. But with inapp purchases, as long as there are new levels to unlock, or goals to achieve, gamers will still purchase and income never stops. This is also the reason why it is best for bitcoin if it can be integrated into inapp purchases.

Do you have a source for this? Freemium models dominate the gaming industry right now because they are infinitely more profitable. Clash of Clans shattered earnings records for mobile games under this model, and many others have followed their lead, earning millions of millions along the way.

Asking for Bitcoin payment in android purchase is just like asking Google to use Bitcoin.
Because Google owns Android

Exactly. I read in a thread that Microsoft once was accepting bitcoin. Unfortunately, it is temporarily stopped. So maybe, Google can also adopt and accept bitcoin.

That was the way back in the old days, but having people to buy the game plus offer in-game items for sale is much more profitable. Just look as CSGO, you pay to get the game then pay more to get cool stuff and bonuses. Its the perfect business model.

ahh, but you are mixing 2 things and models:

1* core game is free (dota2) or paid (csgo) and you are paying only for skins, models and "cool stuff" - so for VISUAL stuff and not real in-game advantage.
2* core game is free or paid and you are paying for "something", what gives you REAL advantage over other players. (you can reset cool-down, buy some building/sword with extra power, you don't need to grind..etc etc) - this model is known as pay2win

first concept is absolutely fine, because even non-paying players have same starting line as paying ones. second one is shitty, because if you are not paying, you will loose. sooner or later. got my point now?

You are right, it is an absolutely shitty game model, but it's what brings in the most money. At the end of the day, game devs are in the market to earn a profit, and freemium mobile games are the way to earn the biggest profit.

In regards to OP, Spells of Genesis is going to use Bitcoin for in app purchases, but it's not released yet. They are using their own digital currency called BitCrystals that can be purchased with Bitcoin, and you will also be able to purchase card packs with bitcoin from the site directly.

Overall, I agree with that distinction and, whenever possible, avoid the second type of games for the very reason you put forward.

However, I'm not sure the games that allow you to avoid the grinding elements are necessarily giving players that much of an unfair advantage: I mean, it's certainly a tangible advantage, as opposed to a token reward, like "cool looking stuff" would be, and largely depends on the implementation but, if done properly and within sensible limits, it doesn't necessarily break the game; rather, it can just spare players the time that they may otherwise not have to put into those portions of the game, and monetize it for the developers. That can be easily abused, of course, if players can just buy the "super-end-of-game gear", but otherwise, it can be a sensible compromise, I think.

I see this way will work too,

Familiar with mol.com? It's an online game reloading site. It supports most of the online game but adding game credits there are not yet possible thru bitcoin payment. If mol.com will adopt bitcoin then purchasing in-game items in all of its supported games are possible.

But how about those that not supported by this reloading site like COC?

One way is, if Google will allow us to reload our Google wallet thru bitcoin. This is much better than direct payment in-game to avoid confirmation time. This is already discussed in the past but I don't know the current status of it now.

DragonPay accepts Bitcoin, which is a payment gateway in MOL Smiley
