Any novice that can securely generate a 1-bitcoin paper wallet (clean, single-output, new address) has every reason to be proud. Such a feat would require, research, persistence, risk-tolerance, and significantly above average computer skills. Holding it for about 3 years (accruing 1000 bitcoin-days) will suggest an understanding of Bitcoin and a strength of mind that few seem able to muster.

Owning 1 bitcoin is a great achivement at this point. Soon it will be unreachable for most people.
Also, you're supporting the bitcoin movement with just one coin. If you already own 5, then you certainly have a good thing going for you! Keep it up.

If the entire 21M pool of Bitcoins were evenly distributed to every single person on earth, each person would have around .00033333 BTC. I'd say if you have a whole integer Bitcoin, you're doing good.

I'm a newb and have just gotten up to 5 BTC and I'm proud to hit that number.

5BTC is a lot for a newb at today’s prices. Makes sure you've got your funds secured and remember to only invest what you can afford to lose.

There is no such thing as a 'good' amount of bitcoin to hold. Whether a newbie or veteran, each person has different circumstances and matching the two together simply does not work.

5 is also the number I aim to own long-term. I currently own a few more, which I plan to slowly sell as the price goes up. I am hoping to be freerolling with 5

Think it has less to do with someone being a "newb" or not and more to do with their financial situation if they are buying their bitcoins since it costs fiat to buy them.

As others said, there is no "good" amount to hold, I think a newb should get into bitcoin progressively, decide a certain amount you want to convert each month and buy, let's say $500 a month. If a particular month is THE "bubble month", hold it for the next or wait and buy on a deep

Given that the average American doesn't even hold a retirement account (I'm American so yes I'm going to be US-centric), and many live paycheck to paycheck, I'd say 1 bitcoin is already "out of reach" for the "average" person.
This is true. People who live from paycheck to paycheck can perhaps save $100 per month which means that they can probably get 1 bitcoin if they keep investing that $100 into bitcoins each month, but it requires some dedication and is becoming more difficult as time goes on.
This is just how it is, and I believe that changing to mBTC is quite refreshing in this sense.
