I may not be an established member of the community,

Are you even Indian? Can you speak Hindi? Tamil? Bengali? or anything apart from English?

Crime : Stole 438 Bitcoins from an Indian exchange being the CSO ...

Yeah, I read up on the whole drama AFTER I made this post here, my bad.

Also, I haven't interacted with Zakir a lot primarily because he was active during the time I was mostly inactive on the forum, between 2014 - 17, but from what I know he too is from down south just like Benson, while there's nothing wrong with that, wouldn't it be better to look for someone who's not from the South this time?

Names like Pinwheel, Skang, American Desi comes to mind as they were pretty active and square in the early years.

Fact is, there are not many established old timers from India who are still active anymore. And its an imperative that to be an Indian mod you HAVE to be someone from India.

If Theymos is indeed looking for a moderator of the Indian board, I would like to throw my hat in the ring as well. I may not be an established member of the community, given that I frequent most other boards as well. I have the time and I do report posts to mods frequently.

If theymos is actually looking for a moderator for the Indian Sub-board, then I would like to apply for the same.
I am an Indian and I browse through the Indian board now-and-then and report spammy posts as soon as I encounter one.
The fact that you are appointing yourself doesn't seem very reliable.
...
I just wanted to put my words out, and if the admin considers me worthy he may chose me, or else I would still continue with reporting posts and move on.

If I can't recommend my own name then I'd recommend
Amitabh S

He was one of the first guys I interacted with and someone who's actually polite and incredibly knowledgeable of crypto.

-edit-

Damn I should really read up on what happened & the people involved .. just read this..
The private keys were held by CSO Amitabh Saxena and the company has filed a case against him, his response to the way in which the funds are hacked are just flimsy and i do not think Benson has anything to do with the loss and the company has ensured that they will be crediting its users, it is a really unfortunate situation and with him being removed as the moderator i hope the local board wont be a junkyard.

-edit-
...

Glad you edited it, I was going to comment whether you were kidding or not about suggesting Amitabh S.

Crime : Stole 438 Bitcoins from an Indian exchange being the CSO of the company. No offence but are you not aware of the on-going drama with the coinsecure's hack ? Amitabh Saxena is the prime suspect as per Benson/Mohit and everybody else in the team.Plus I would want someone to be a moderator who is not just about degrees and knowledge but also dedicates time to handle reports on bitcointalk.

Being the moderator means someone who's the defacto leader of that community, Benson is perfect for that role because he listens, he's been busy and slightly less active here but set that aside I don't think someone can actually replace him. But a second moderator to assist him? THAT surely can happen.
Not necessarily.Being a moderator should only mean someone who is an active reporter,an established member of the community  and of course takes efforts to keep the forum clean.Same person being the defacto leader of the community is just an advantage.Muhammed Zakir can replace Benson any given day! Too bad he isn't active anymore.

If a new mod is picked, it should be someone from 2012 - 2013 era..

@joel_jantsen, I would say let the dust settle a bit and let theymos decide how to proceed based on the hack investigations.
I doubt it is not just a hack but Indian forum lacks strong moderation in general.I had brought up the issue a few months back as well (unfortunately I couldn't find the thread)

The fact that you are appointing yourself doesn't seem very reliable.Don't get me wrong but you should have the other moderators/established members feel the same about you.And by established members I don't mean the accounts you suck up to. (not directed towards you but there are cases where established members will only promote accounts they're "good friends" with and not someone actually deserving )

I am very much aware that Full Member ain't high-ranking nor that I am experienced, but to get a rejection even though you haven't applied is highly amusing.

Xal0lex was just made a mod of the Russian board and he is only a Full Member. I think I became a mod at Full Member or at the latest Senior. I think being an established member is important but it's whether you are actually willing to put in the time and effort and to do so and in an accurate way that is the most important thing and to be an active reporter is the best way to do that currently.

Not you.

Theultraelite maybe?

Naah dude, I cant be a moderator for the following reasons:
1. I have a life outside this forum. Not possible for me to come everyday to this forum to mod a section.
2. I am extremely hammer-happy. I would get demodded in within a week even if I was made one. You can bet on that for sure.

But definitely not anybody like @allahabadi. Sorry to break it, if I did.

At least you're honest.

I came to know about the patrol feature today itself (by QS) and would use it irrespective of whether I get appointed as mod or not.

[1] SERIOUSLY! DID YOU EVEN THINK OF THE UNTHINKABLE? I WAS NEVER TALKING ABOUT ME.
P.S. I dunno which of you is Indian or not; but I personally feel that it should be a high-ranking experienced Indian member. Smiley

[2] No; the section is in shambles and does need a new mod; not because of the hack, but because of the way it's been handled.

[21000000] Who according to you doesn't have a life outside of this forum and is suitable enough to be a moderator too?   Tongue

@hilariousetc and @joel I have to sadly agree to the proposition that the Indian section is in shambles and it was prior to the hacking and many of them have been grumbling over it too. It was needed that it should have a new moderator without delay; this is not something related to his role or his position of the exchange that got hacked; but definitely his position as a mod hasn't been good; so much so that some Indians have stopped going over tot hat section or even reporting things.

P.S. I dunno which of you is Indian or not; but I personally feel that it should be a high-ranking experienced Indian member. Smiley

The Indian sub mostly. Not much point in making someone a moderator of a sub board if they haven't shown that they're actively patrolling that section and are willing to put in the work to make it a better place.
Do you have the access to get that Sub-wise report stats just like theymos posted here ? Or only Admins can do it ? Maybe those stats would be a nice entry point to sort from the bunch.

I can't comment on the situation as to why Benson was removed, but he hasn't been active as a moderator here for quite a while and I suggested to theymos prior to this that the Indian board needed additional moderation. I would only take into consideration users who have been actively reporting though.
Actively reporting as in ? Actively reporting generally in the forum or just in the Indian Sub ?

I do think that the removal of Benson as a moderator would be temporary (until the exchange hack gets sorted out). If Coinsecure is repaying everybody with their own funds, then it gets sorted out.
Don't recollect theymos removing someone from the Staff position and hiring them back.

If the Indian board does not get too many reports and Benson's absence is expected to be temporary, we can wait for a couple of weeks before we decide whether a new moderator is necessary.
Nothing against Benson but Indian board does need a strong moderation. I've tried reporting threads in that SUB but takes forever for the reports to get handled. You may be right about waiting for two weeks but again it depends if theymos have removed them temporarily otherwise it wouldn't make a difference.
