An effort to better represent bitcoin as a symbol has been launched.

The Unicode symbol has been chosen by a website of industry members as a way to better legitimize bitcoin as a symbol both in print and online media.

Proposed New Symbol:

Here's who's behind it: http://bitcoinsymbol.org/

As much as this may make some here roll their eyes, the whole "inverted cross" thing is going to be milked beyond belief, if this symbol is adopted.

Trust me.  And you're looking at hundreds of millions of people.   While you may consider them idiots, they are still an issue.

Put the line at the top like one guy joked on Page 1, and you may end up with a completely opposite response (good) from hundreds of millions of faith.

They will spin it as Bitcoin being sent from above to provide help to the masses, and ruin the power of the corrupt.

Trust me.  I know how this demographic thinks.  Was part of it once.

But the proposed one will only cause extreme drama from huge groups of people.

Yeah, how about we let some randoms come in and demand to change a widely recognized symbol.

No way... if you're an early adapter, make your voice heard.

The new symbol isn't likable.
If it has to be unicode, then we need a better one.

It's a good way to gain additional traction, but I personally don't think it looks as "elegant" as it could be.

[I mean after all, unicode supports some pretty complex characters from other languages. Not that I'm saying to make it complex.]

Unicode isn't carved into pillars of stone. There's plenty of room to add BTC.

I agree, I like the original better (BTC), and adopting an existing character with other possible meanings seems like a quick fix to me.

After looking through the process to submit a new unicode character, I would think this would be a great project for the Bitcoin Foundation or similar...

lose: unfind ... loose: untight
but w all know that this industry want Ƀ so they can get their 15 minutes of fame.

Read further down the website of the 'industry group', and you'll learn that this 'industry group' is merely a single design house in France.

I wanted to comment on this.

It's funny that some "industry group"   (anonymous people who made a web page) publicly declare that they "aim to change" the bitcoin symbol.

The community will need to rally behind the idea or it wont go anywhere.

And I'm not seeing much enthusiasm.
