That law is not realistic because you have already called them underage which simply means the law cannot really hold them, inec should flush such underage registered voters out of there database not by issuing a may threat they cannot implement.

That would have been better. But, how would they be punished? I think parents too should be held responsible for their children doings. Parents are supposed to watch over their children not to engage in underage voting.

It is a welcome development,if really the officers are going to act on the directive that are been given to them and not to be compromized by the political, because bribe and corruption have become the order of the day,it is against the law in Nigeria for underage to vote in an election,so I support the INEC official to stand on their grand against the underage voting and persecute whom ever that was cought in such act without no mercy,so as to give us free, fair and credible election come 2023,so I urge The INEC chairman and all the working committee to come together to prove to the world that Nigeria can be better again..

If Dem for fit arrest underage voters e for really make sense oo, but we know say na lie Dem dey lie, Dem no go do anything,
I can even say as INEC chairman(Mahmood Yakubu) dey there, en fit get en own pay master wey go tell am wetin en go dey do for that office, he might also have his own preferred candidates, so en go do everything possible to make sure say en own candidate win,

So all those things wey INEC dey talk to arrest underage voters na lie e no go fit work, make Dem no just announce am, make Dem start the arrest and show us proves so that we go believe Dem if not we no go gree abeg, Dem to dey lie...

I hope say dis one dem go follow am and do the needful for d country. Because all dis underage no know anything about voting and dem go direct dem to vote for a particular party wey dem want neh.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says visibly underage persons who attempt to vote during the 2023 elections will be arrested. Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner for information and voter education, said this on Monday during an interview on ‘The Morning Show’, a programme by Arise Television. Okoye said in an effort to address issues around underage registration, INEC has summoned all its officers in areas where underage registrations were recorded.
As we dey gear up for the 2023 elections wey go kickstart with the presidential election on 25th february 2023, na him INEC national chairman for information and voter education Fetus Okoye, don come out come talk say any underage person wey come out come vote, dem go arrest such persons. Well...  I like as dem they loud as to our hearing and I know say na naija we dey and there's still going to be defaulters and we know say na for northern part of naija na im this underage voters registration dey common, but INEC go fit really persecute this persons? Also, INEC say dem get 93.5 registered voters and dem go publish the list on 16 January before the election go start... Wetin una think concerning making the registered voters list public?

Quote
The parents will also be arrested for aiding and abetting such a venture.
This one go dey hard to carry out ooo...  As most of the underage voters wey be Almajiri with no parent, wey dey street dey beg with plates... how dem want take arrest the parent? Abi dem just dey talk am so that parents and guardians go advise their wards?

Source: https://www.thecable.ng/visibly-underage-persons-who-attempt-to-vote-will-be-arrested-says-inec/amp

This is very laughable. Is it now that they realized or know about the underage voting. They  denied the complaint on the underage voting of 2015 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.ndr.org.ng/underage-voting-inec-denies-culpability/&ved=2ahUKEwif6vjs9sz8AhVCsKQKHdBcAMU4ChAWegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw2UweTU90WCKYDOYEgqgMa4. and now they are quick to make noise to justify their shortcomings. They already have their plots in mind so no need for these threats.
These underage voting mostly happens in the North which I will suggest to them to focus there this coming election because they are the soul initiators of this underage voters registration. The state government can not tell us that they are not aware of such because they are also beneficiaries of that act.
Who do they want to arrest? Is it the almajiri that walks about with plate on their hands begging for food or the  the imported fulanis from niger republic that have already been out in place for the act. They are even talking of arresting their parents too. I luagh I Swahili. They should continue.

I no know oo but this years elections just dey do me like say e go dey somehow special but all the whole wuruwuru wey dey happen before for Nigeria elections no go fit Just stop like that  finish so the change na small small, maybe inec fit srart by denying all this underage voters a chance for this time around general elections first , but that one sef go hard oo because Nigerians things once money don dey involved the whole mata don change.
All this talk fit be story sha boss,  but eventually one-day the storyline go end for them to tell. But one thing wey we should do as Nigerians is to have a positive mindset towards our betterment one-day.

I just get the feeling say this time election go dey different. The young nigerians don tire for everything as it can be seen in the ENDSARS protest. For the first time we saw Nigerians irrespective of our ethnic and religious divide came together and brought down the country to a standstill. I don't know how many of you watched the ENDSARS video at Lekki tow gate but I saw young Nigerians like myself telling the security operatives to shoot that they are not moving an inch when they are being shot at, and one of them even in his dying breath was singing the national anthem. Omo... this gave me goosebumps. I know some bullion van politicians will try to hijack the election but I just have this feeling that we are going to get it right this time.
You dey correct my mate, but I still dey fear say the election go dey bloody. If the normal thing wey we dey see for other elections nai we still see for this one,my mind dey tell me say some group of people go still come highjack the whole thing and make the election not to be free and fair.
If the election is done in a way that they allow people vote their choices,it would have been better, but they won't let that happen, they will always find a way to make the election full of corruption. We will only try our best, to make sure say we vote in our person wey we feel say e go help us.

I no fit understand why we no fit do this our election free and fair for this contri, e fit happene say nah free and fair election but before you go cast your vote reach house you go hear say them don hikack the ballot box carry am run. Now you go dy ask if your vote go count becos if them cancel that center them fit no let una re-vote again. So we go just pray and hope for the best when we do our part.

And again bruv, dem fit stop underage voting automatically oh, onli if dem no go allow dem cast there vote and gather dem on dat election day put dem for prison by doing dis one oda underage voters go fear to com out. Dis style suppose happen wen dem dy follow go for voters card enrollment self, stop dem early and you stop underage voting oh, na so I think say to use stop dis underage voting go dy possible.

Underage voting don d happen all this years, I no know why INEC come d sound like sae this year election go be different from other election periods. Anyway all eyes are them this time around. Make we see how em go be at the end.
Seriously, e dey hard to see underage on polling unit try vote in my place ooo, because I dey will not even allow them, infact why did INEC registered at first time. But from what I dey see INEC no wan make them blame them at the end.
quote author=Hyphen(-) link=topic=5432751.msg61569594#msg61569594 date=1673296777]
E sure say dis year election go de extremely different because say youths don show dem say dem de concern and dem wan make dem monitor d election back to back. Na why INEC wan try make dem run d election free and fair.
Waiting to make this year election differ from other ones at pass na advancement of technology from waiting I dey hear. Wen dey use advanced machine for election it go dey easy to monitor and hard to ring.
We Nigerians we already know region wey d practice underage voting. When I first hear the news, I begin d laugh cos I know how em d be for North when it comes to elections. Underage voting no go d easy this time cos the major top political aspirants of the North d involved  and you go find them for all the political parties(PDP, APC, and LP) and you know what? em no go d easy cos none of them go accept am for the favor of the other.
I agree with you it go dey hard to practice underage voting this term around. As for me ooo all dis underage voting no be issue becus I know sai na small tin wen everyone fit disallowed in him/her polling unit sofar it above d law. But the may tin make INEC no try ring the election becus anytin is possible in naija.

It's just all palter palter for the INEC commissioner to have made those threats that have been neglected for so long, a rule that is even a Nome to the northernants. There are villages where this rule cannot be taken seriously, except in some cities. Mahmood Yakubu, being the INEC chairman, should take that law more seriously in his place because "charity begins at home." 😂😂 A Bauchi man like him should start that law at his place first.

Normally, underage 🔞 voting is a tabu according to the constitution, but the House has taken it as a norm in its place and this are still same people trying to introduce underage voting.

lso, INEC say dem get 93.5 registered voters and dem go publish the list on 16 January before the election go start... Wetin una think concerning making the registered voters list public?

@OP, It's 93.5 million, not just 93.5.
Toward making the registered voters public, I don't think is going to cause any harm, so let's see if they keep to their words in 6 days time from today (16/01/2023).

U knw where dis mata cast frm, na frm d registration process itself.
Jst carri eye see d image way dey 4 dat OP. U no nid persn 2 tell u say, dis pple na children dem be. Say na children way neva age betta 10yrs finish cef. Stil, u see dem 4 registration ground nd officials stil key dem in 4 dere system. In fact, na dere d arrest 4 start if dem reali wan tak dis mata serious.
I show say, evry system get code way fit link am to persn way dey run d registration. If dem start wth arresting pple way register under age voters first, ordas 4 tak note not to dey try register dem, let alone, 4 dis kids to dey com do registration or evn get liver com election ground.

I knw say, to luk system age no fit b red flag 4 underage bt, d passport way follow na d first red flag nd if such pikin ahq 4 election ground,na full verification. As e b  lik dat, mak dem no end am 4 jst arresting d pikin dem bt, mak dem extend am to d official way get mind key dem in.

Most times security personnels are also use to carry out this electoral irregularities which is not a good reputation ok their side.
You no lie at all, electoral malpractice they happen in so many ways than one, underage voting na one of them, but there are others too and i hope say INEC and the security agencies they look into the matter. As things be so, the only thing wey i fit request from Naija government be say make they do their best to ensure say election they free and fair, them no give us jobs, electricity, good roads, security, etc, no wahala, but make them try for this election, so that the people's candidate can be elected, so we go see if things go change for this country. Security of lives and properties is also very important in polling units, all this things suppose they in place so that the process go they smooth, free and fair.

Arresting underaged voters won't really stop irregularities in the fourth coming election but it will arrest the situation to an extent, there are other set of individuals who specialises in electoral irregularities, such as Thugs, our politicians, some Inec staffs too, and so on, all this people should be fished out together with the underaged voters and be rested so elections will be free and fair .
Even the government in some states still participate in electoral irregularities and as such the government should first make themselves an example for the rest of us to follow as no one is above the love.
Most times security personnels are also use to carry out this electoral irregularities which is not a good reputation ok their side.

I just dey remember how the last presidential election be. Na so news dey everywhere of how underage voters for North participate, but nothing dem fit do finally.
My question firstly na, who registered this underage voters? No be still INEC officials do the registration?
Secondly, I think before persons cast their vote the voting officers should impartially compare the card information with the person in possession of it to first confirm the age before allowing such a person or persons cast their vote. Unless the place where such election is meant to hold don't mind the turnout or voters profile, then useful pre-voting screening like this should be ignored.
