Ooh.  I thought there was a 1/1 full size glossy

There is, but I'm not sure if it's been found yet. Maybe you'll find it!

jeez, i should probably pull all mine out, and the trusty 1980's blacklight to check. Tongue

Just a heads up, if you have the silver glossy #83 or the glow in the dark, hang onto those since they are no longer being made.   Cool Cool

if you see a glossy of any card, please post a picture or link.  Never seen one a full-size one if that is what you mean.

The hot box silver glossy is on the first page of this thread.  There are a few for sale on ebay.

Penny is right but the ginter cards are not a premium card per say, they are the "one offs" of cards.  The reason the ginter boxes go for so much is purely based on the crypto currency card.  Even if there are better rookies from one year to the next you wont see these boxes appreciate all that much.  The crypto card is the crem of this set and makes it a unique buy.  I do think these unopened boxes will go for even more some day because of the crypto card.  Just dont expect this each year from the ginter cards.

I have to agree with the Penny Man, card dealers know whats what...and 2018 was a terrific year for Rookies...including out most loved
#83 Cryptocurrency cards. There is a case with all of the wood cards, OR they are scattered in cases not yet opened. All the other cases of all of the other variations are completely independent from what we seek in here. Which is pretty much anything promoting Cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and the people behind it all. So far all we have is the "Rookie" card. Are there more out there, yes, and way more than you think. I have several unopened x box's and packs of the TAG 2018. I'm sure that I will buy more before it's all over too. Much like the Penny Man, I've developed a friendship with these people and have had in depth dialogues about what Penny Man is saying. It's true, in fact just the other day I was telling someone about taking all of their cards in to his local card dealer, to have them looked at PRIOR to sending. Because we all want 10's only. They have people on staff that will look at all of your cards and tell you what cards will get a 10. It works, they have a dead-eye for that. Your local card dealers are sharper than you think. Get to know them a little, and you'll understand. Like, these people sending in their cards to Becketts because PSA gave them a 9.....not a great idea. Dealers will crack that 9 and send it back in to PSA, because collectors WANT the PSA cards. PSA is the standard. They would rather take another shot at possibly getting a different grader & getting a 10 next go around, than to send it to Becketts. My card dealer Dave, has told me that time and time again. You can learn PLENTY from your local card dealer. Penny Man is right on the money.

i don't doubt your experience, but when the boxes go for 500 bucks that has to get one's attention.  Do they think this crypto card is going to go even higher!!??  The rookies for that year are ok, but there is no George Brett, right?

Please feel free to doubt my experience. I won't take offense. It's good to question. I've only been doing this as long as most of you. I just happen to be researching/buying/investing in many more baseball cards than just the A&G/Ginter cards. I've spent a lot of time learning about baseball cards, the brands, the market, the long-term investment aspect, and the cyclical selling/distribution of those cards. (I've got quite an impressive collection of Javier Baez rookie cards.) For example, it's common advice not to bother selling your baseball cards from after the post-season has ended until spring training has started. Those months are very slow for baseball card sales, and the prices fall dramatically. An exception is Christmas sales. Plus, sales go in short cycles depending on the release date of the next series released. For example, if Topps Chrome cards are released on July 1, then they will be the hot card to buy/flip/sell until the Bowman Chrome cards are released on September 1. At that time, most pro sellers are busy chasing the new releases, so they're less interested in the older releases. That's why interest seems to die off. The cards aren't all gone. They're simply being saved for later years in hopes that the cases will someday be worth a lot more money. It's a long-term investment strategy. (The hot rookie today may wash out tomorrow, and the so-so rookie today may become a superstar tomorrow. You never know what may happen, which is why pro collectors save cases for the future. It's a long-term investment.)

And I have to respectfully disagree about the rookies from 2018 being "ok." I've spoken with several pro collectors, and they all say the same thing: In any given year, you're lucky to get one really great rookie. However, the 2018 year was phenomenal, because it gave us MANY really great rookies — Ohtani, Acuna, Soto, Torres, Andujar, Albies... In fact, I'd wager that the wide assortment of future HOF players from the 2018 season is one of the biggest reasons why pro collectors are HODLing sealed cases. (That, and as I said above, they're simply focusing on the next/newest releases. After all, this is their business. They make a living on focusing on the newest releases and HODLing the older releases. Their business formula goes something like: Buy X number of cases, crack and flip Y of those for short-term profit, save the remaining Z for long-term investment.)

At least, that's the info that I've been given from pro baseball card investors.

Chris

That solar powered solar eclipse that I gave away, went to a well respected member of this forum. Glad that he got it.

Me too, I am hoping the silver mini #83 will show up in one of the two remaining boxes owned by members on this forum.  As far as I know there are only three boxes left unopened unless there are some that have been tucked away and never opened.

I can assure you that there are probably dozens of Ginter X cases — not boxes, cases — left sealed and unopened. That's what pro card sellers do. They buy several cases at a time, store them sealed and in pristine condition, then place them on the market years later. Just because we don't see them on eBay doesn't mean they don't exist. (Lots of negatives in that sentence, but you know what I mean.)

However, I do hope that you pull the silver mini in one of your remaining boxes. It would be nice to see it found by a forum member. Good luck.

Me

Someone scored the total solar eclipse glow in the dark on Ebay.   Congratulations whomever it is.

Whoever picked up the solar glowie made a nice investment.

Wink wink.  Grin

Always liked the Total Solar Eclipse, but with the glow one like having sun and moon on same card.   Very cool.

Supposedly there was one glowie per hobby case so at that amount there would be two glowie's per card based on 700 cases.  700 hobby cases would be quite a lot of cases.  I know that two #83 glowie's have shown up.  One bullpen car, one cyclone bomb and now one solar.  I don't know of any other's from the special inserts.

I looked on PSA to see how many total glow in the darks were graded for the entire set and there were only eleven.  No #83's at all.  Who here has seen an actual #83 glowie other than in a photo?  Just curious Cool Cool

Like you said, the glowie's are no longer made.  The #83 was only made in 2018 making the #83 glowie double exceptionally super rare.  Whoever picked up the solar glowie made a nice investment.

I purchased and flipped one. I had it graded and they mislabeled it as plain mini - PSA 10.  i have teo others mislabeled of regular players. so PSA does make mistakes.

So you had a red mini #83 and a glow in the dark #83.  Were those the rarest of the #83's that you had?

Correct. Never seen a 1/1 even though i was onlne when the person that found the mini glossy posted here.  he initially listed for one price and increased it by a grand once he saw us drooling over it.

Hindsight is 20/20, when i sold, i couldn't have imagined how high the prices would go.  Pure speculation but those glowies are special since they are no longer being made.  At one time, there were two or three on ebay just sitting there.  The whales just scooped them up.
