Hey guys,
I just found out about bitcoins and I am super excited about it.  Its cool getting into something while its still in its beta form.  I hope it grows into a viable form of currency world wide.

Cheers,

Canadian Bitcoiner here! I got to say I love the whole idea of BTC; De-centralized and anonymous. What a (small) slap on the face on traditional economics Smiley

Yup, I doubt this measure can curtail most spammers or spamming software.

I've been mining off and on for about 9 months... like too many others, I didn't get around to backing up my wallet specifically, since my PC is backed up using an online service.

Unfortunately, I've been experiencing HDD issues (without even knowing it), and I have bad sectors.  I went to open my wallet a few nights ago, and no joy. errors.

I realized that there was a new version available (I was on 0.4), and downloaded the upgrade and installed.  I started it, and the blockchain started downloading... I went to bed.  Next day, was very busy, but in the late evening I sat down and checked.  My wallet was empty. Panicked, looked at my online backup, and the new wallet.dat had already been uploaded (no versions available online).

I've  been trying to use the makomk wallet-recover tool to get my private keys, but I keep getting a 'Device read: Input/output error' message.  It does recover and display 232 keys before the error, but the keys do not make it to the file output.

I'm hoping to get in touch with makomk as soon as I can post other than here in the newbies section to see if the source can be modified to skip bad sectors when searching and continue instead of exiting.  I looked through the source, but I know just enough to understand what it's doing, but not make changes.

There's only 15-18 coins (I think) in that wallet, but I'd like to learn about the recovery process.

Hi I am papaminer.

I heard bitcoin long time ago and I just ignored it. I wish I did not, I would have been mining like crazy already.

Now I am just starting to get a few details and a few rigs.

Cheesy

I am also into FPGA and from what I see butterflylabs got some crazy stuff, but has a very slow delivery time.

I really hope they can hire (notCOPYcat or spy) employees to hire so the flow of product goes up and gets in our homes fast.

That's it for now..

I've been spending the last week or so reading about bitcoin and I now I want to get a little more involved.  Probably sell some old hardware for a couple coins to play with.  I guess it all starts here.
