I hope this isn't a repeat of a question previously asked, but has anyone with a test version running been able to model confirmation times? I am not a developer so I am just guessing but it seems confirmations are probabilistic, maybe based on aging of open nodes being merged to rule out doublespends.

Because there is always the possibility of receiving a double spent token, one strategy is to immediately respend the token and hope to receive value before the transaction is potentially invalidated.  If a merge fails because of a conflicting transaction, is the doublespend flagged so future spends aren't mistakenly accepted?

Is there a simple way to explain how the system optimizes merging open nodes to miminize probablistic confirmation?

Sorry it this doesn't make sense but very interested in understanding how it works.

Thanks!

I have a byproduct in my IOTAstrip ( http://github.com/ifinta/IOTAstrip ) project. A command line interface in Perl for IOTA. It is compatible with IRI 0.8.0.

The working commands are: (use with caution - it is beta also)

getinfo
getbalance
gettransaction
listtransactions
getbundle
addinput
addoutput
sendtx

All script give a help, if entered without parameters...

Please read the README.md...
For Debian (or Ubuntu) should simple to install - see dependecies in README.md.

Any comments welcome.

Example: Sending IOTA's...
Code:
ifinta@nockstein:~/iota/IOTAstrip$ ./addinput bundle.dat UVIDRCVKFJCFBVNDVYUCIGUTXNOTTAFDJHOJAVA9FXPOYUAP9FTUIARQEPLAMJZPDBFYCPLWHMYMIACFU -0.5

Are there any news when the wallet will be released? I read that the actual software is ready but the devs struggling to create a nice gui. Is this right?

No, not right. We hired professionals to do GUI, but both teams managed to fuck up beyond comprehension, so we had to get yet a third UI dev. Then we came up with an improved method to do addresses in IOTA so that you can reuse addresses, which cause some delay to UI

Quote from: Forbes
Going forward from here, new technologies will be integrated into the platform, bringing their own unique advantages. One such development is IOTA, an ‘Internet-of-Things’ currency that takes a radically different approach to regular blockchain technology to deliver fee-free transactions as well as unprecedented scalability – both factors which are said to lend well to BitTeaser’s application.

“For obvious reasons, we’re very interested in using technologies like this. Costless micro-transactions are perfect for this kind of business model,” Boesing asserts.

Great stuff

Those who care about incentives should read about altruism and its role in humankind evolution. Altruism is as old as greed, and one does not simply overcome patterns coded inside our genes.

BTW, https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/03/160318102101.htm (Your brain might be hard-wired for altruism)

That is some bullshit. No behaviour is "coded" anywhere.

That's an especially stupid comment considering more of our behavior is hard coded than not.

We have for a long time the software that works very stable. The "beautiful" comfortable GUI comes later. But back end runs properly. My server is very stable. No problem at all.
This shows of course that any reputable company are not so much interested in the surface but for the useful revolutionary properties.

That is why we should push IOTA to the IoT related companies as hard as we can right now to build a ecosystem and be part of IoT ecosystem as well in real business world before other people start to copy and clone IOTA. All the IoT companies in the real world need is the back end software and API which we already have and they have the resources to develop applications and integrate IOTA.

We have prepared a list of IoT companies and a generic introductory letter for you to introduce IOTA to the some IoT companies. There are hundreds of IoT companies out there. If we can do 5 companies (random pick) per person we can reach out to hundreds of companies. Maybe your introcution will lead to a partnership between IOTA and a IoT company. Here is the list and the letter - http://forum.iotatoken.com/t/a-generic-iota-introductory-letter/56. All you need to do is to click a link to a company from the IoT directory and find out its contact email and copy/paste the introductory letter in your email and hit send.

Which company where contacted? (to avoid spam) Do we have a tracking list? Is Sigfox in the loop ? (100 Million cap.) Even Airbus has its IoT incubator, and there is a "Connected Camp" in the "IOT Valley" near Toulouse FR. Thank you for any information.
