It doesn't really matter as long as he's doing his job correctly and just he'll be fine. There's nothing wrong with being a gay minister, I think that's superb, gorgeous! and gays can always be smart and wise, they are still human being, if he deserves to be there then he deserves it, there's nothing wrong with it, please let equality enter this planet. Equality to gay, lesbians and transgenders.

It's very interesting news, really.
Ireland is very conservative, catholic country, so I really was shocked with this news.
Just yesterday, another traditional and conservative, orthodox country got a first lesbian prime minister in the history, Serbia.
It become new trend now Smiley
Still, in my opinion, their political program and personal character should be more important then their sexual orientation.

I'm totally with you here. I don't give a sh*t about what a politician does in his/her personal life if he/she has a good program and plans to make my life better and easier.

I think this is a big deal for the once Catholic Republic of Ireland. But times are changing now. And people are not defined by their sexuality.
If his sexuality does not matter, why do you open this topic about his sexuality?

It seems to me that tolerance will destroy Western society. This applies not only to gays, but also many other aspects of our lives. From death to politics with the migrants. Perhaps the time has come to rethink Western values.

Everytime I think we reach a new low, there is another thread on this forum that make me lose even more faith in humanity...

SO

It's perfectly OK to elect bandits with so many accusations of corruption and thefts that you might wonder how they manage to walk free, but not OK to elect someone who's gay?

So for all of you what's important isn't his program, his ideas, his propositions, but the mere fact that he seems to enjoy sex with men? That's what really bothers you?

And you wonder why the "world is doomed" as you say...
Just look at a mirror and you'll see exactly why the world is becomming shittier every day...

Leo Varadkar has made history in Ireland by becoming the country’s first openly gay prime minister, as well as the youngest

Leo Varadkar was formally elected taoiseach at a confirmation ceremony in the Dáil in Dublin yesterday after winning the Fine Gael party leadership earlier this month.

The former GP and son of an Indian father and Irish mother, won the vote by 57 votes to 50, with 47 abstaining. His parents Ashok and Miriam were present to see him receive his seal of office. The couple met when they worked in an English hospital in the 1960s.

Varadkar’s partner, Matthew Barrett, who is a doctor, was also watching. Varadkar came out as gay shortly before the 2015 same-sex marriage referendum in Ireland during an interview with RTÉ, Ireland’s national television broadcaster.

This is a good read. Ireland is indeed conservative by their catholic faith. But whom are they to judge? It might a big deal. But practices now are also changing, We couldn't stick to what is written in the bible. The thing is people are now beginning to be open their minds in this kind of issues and starting to adapt with it.

Now gays are taking over very easily and without fear

This is absurd. The world is not lost because of Gays taking over. So what if they are increasing in numbers do they not make good contributions and when you are Gay this means your're disgrace?  If you may can you enlighten me on why you come out with this conclusion?

Well that took guts. I suppose it's not as conservative as countries in Asia but Ireland seem to still be conservative by European standards. He could have lost supporters for what he did.

One of the last remaining Catholic strongholds in the world electing a non-white homosexual as the Prime Minister. Catholicism is decaying. No wonder that Islam is taking over the world.

Normally I would agree with you but are you suggesting that people be discriminated for their skin color or sexuality? I don't care how much melanin they have on their skin or where they put their junk (if even), what I would care is if they are competent. People should be free to participate in society so long as they don't step on other people's rights.

In the British Parliament the largest number of gays in the world. Externally, Britain seems to be a stronghold of conservatism in the world, but it is not. I am opposed to same-sex relationships. People at home can do anything, it is their right, but to show it to people I do not accept.

Lol... Britain as a stronghold of conservatism? From where did you got that idea? A country which is having one of the highest rates of inter-racial marriage and political correctness must be described as the most liberal country in the world.
