so much paranoia about getting wrong type of coins from mixers
if you don't do anything illegal you have nothing to worry about
its not like ANB is actively studying blockchain history to determine who is selling drugs or guns with bitcoins
you get higher chances to get tagged by the agencies while using Google mail

Is it okay to send your bitcoins to a mixer as long as you're not doing anything illegal?
Thank you Smiley
If your coins are earned through legal ways, using mixer is not a crime as it doesn't change anything except origin of coins

with your bitcoins you are totally free that what you want to do with them no one can restrict you but only from illegal activity and sending your bitcoins to any mixer is not illegal anyone can use that service in your country without any restriction.

In bitcoin world you are anonymous and no one know that who are you and from where are you so you can easily use any mixer without any restriction. no one will find you and the fact is that it is legal in every part where bitcoin is allowed.
Also if you mix your coins, there are risks you'll get coins from people who did illegal shit, not entirely sure about this but it seems logical.

Is this possible?  What are the implications of this?

Yes, you could get 'tainted' coins as they are called.
You could be investigated, but I doubt if the authorities will prosecute you.

This is a gray area.  I am not sure why it would be illegal but I am not certain they have come as far as saying it is legal. The only legal implications come in is when you sell BTC for a profit and turn into USD.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Is buying a cheeseburger a legal grey area just because authorities haven't specifically stated that "buying cheeseburgers is legal"?

And no, you're not exempt from laws and taxes just because you haven't converted BTC to USD.

What's not forbidden, is allowed, so there's nothing illegal in mixing bitcoins.

But, if you earned your bitcoins in legit way and just want to mix them for the privacy reason, it's always a good practice to keep a record of your transactions (ie deposit/withdrawal txs to mixing service) along with a receipt from mixing site (if provided), so you can produce some sort of proof if authorities ever question your income.

i think we cannot say that it is legal but still the govt of USA has not consider it as illegal, therefore to me people are using it as the government has not yet given any statement about this.

What? If you would be absolutely anonymous u wouldn't even need to mix your coins, ofcourse bitcoin isn't 100% anonymous... Also if you mix your coins, there are risks you'll get coins from people who did illegall shit, not entirely sure about this but it seems logical.

yeah, but perhaps because they haven't caught on to the idea. maybe it will be a problem in the future but it takes an awful long time for governments to catch up with this type of thing. even then they're gonna struggle to stop it.

I don't know US laws against using bitcoin but I think it's absolutely legal, because if we think like that, it means VPN's aren't illegal but in reality it's legal for legal things.

As everyone knows, bitcoin activities are recorded and everyone can see it in blockchain and if you want to feel more secure and anonymous you can use bitcoin mixers and third parties won't be able to track your activities (maybe they less be able).

At least if you want to keep secure and anonymous transactions that use mixers but if you don't need it than don't use because every mixer has it's fees. And most important, use it for legal things and everything will be ok.

I mostly agree with you, but I can think of an exception (for me anyway).  If a person wants to save a significant amount of coins in long term storage then I personally would prefer to store them anonymously.  Some day BTC might go to 5K per coin.  That sounds like a pipe dream right now of course so don't beat me up as a crazy person!  My point was that if the economy where you live where to get bad and THEY knew you had lots of BTC it could get scary out there.  The ability to conceal ownership/control of BTC is why I like it better than Gold.  I have had absolutely no issues running my long term BTC through mixers before forwarding them to private wallets.  Just my way of doing it.  I spend them too, I just mean for the ones I am storing.

It's okay to mix your bitcoins as a U.S. citizen. Bitcoin mixing gives you an added layer of protection, by ensuring that no one can really trace your bitcoin address.
i think the US has yet not given any statement about it but to me it will be legal as it can give you an extra protection to your bitcoin wallet so that no one can hack it, therefore there is nothing wrong in bitcoin mixer and it will be ok.

I don't see why there has to be a rule against someone from us from using a mixing service. I mean it gives more benefits than the potential harm that it can give so why not?

Yes, it is good because nobody can track your Bitcoin address. I do not see what would be wrong with that

i do not exactly get it. why do we need to thonk about legalozation when we are using bitcoin. bitcoin is legal and we are using a servic thats all

That's like saying money is legal, so money laundering is okay.

Regardless, regulating transactions of a decentralized entity is nearly impossible. Enforcing a ban on mixing would also be troublesome.
So no, there's nothing that makes it illegal.
