It's an altcoin unless it ever overtakes Bitcoin in market cap to be the #1 coin.. which is unlikely

People might not accept that, even if it does ever happen. All you can say that BCH is commercially successful, nothing more.
Ethereum is within touching distance of Bitcoin's market cap. That doesn't make ETH the new bitcoin, does it?
Simple answer, don't. In some senses I'd think the BCC would be considered a gift. If you do not hold any BTC at the time of split you cannot claim BCC.

I think so , Yes. BTC cash is an altcoin because its an separate coin but kinda the same as Bitcoin. It may sounds the same but it has different and more features than bitcoin but BTC cash is an altcoin, it acts like a a new altcoin it has its own market cap and like other altcoins do. This is the reason why other people are worried about the split because they do think that BTC cash is Bitcoin and that's not true, you should think of BTC cash as an altcoin, so that you won't get confused both coins.

Yes, because it is not bitcoin. It is an alternative to the original bitcoin version. Alternative = Alt. Altcoin = Alternative Coin.

Simple logic bro.. Its not hard..

On my opinion, i think the right term for that is alternative cryptocurrency. If you take a look at the name , it suggests that this type is a cash, not a coin, but the concept's still the same, it is also an alternative cryptocurrency or altcoin, any of these.
That depends on the approach that is given, there will be those who say yes and those who suggest that itsn´t,I would not properly name it altcoin since in many points it is similar to BTC and arises as a proposal for improvement, regardless of whether or not this is achieved,in general it´s an abstract approach but those who did this continued with the name in itself, surely it will be much discussed about whether it's a altcoin or not,may even be required some other name instead of bitcoin, altcoin such as bitcoin-enhanced or anything else.

Yes BCH is not bitcoin. BCH is altcoin, because coin other than bitcoin then we call it altcoin.
But the current BCH price is quite high, those who hold bitcoin will certainly feel happy.
Sure everyone will feel happy to get some free coins that values over $300,i did not expected the value to shoot like this, but i was disappointed that i could not move my gift coins to some of the exchanges just to make use of the volatile market, bitcoin cash is an alt coin with the same ideology of Satoshi,at least that is what they are claiming. It is an altcoin for now. Who knows though, it may catch bitcoin. Would that make it the original??

Practically everyone here is saying that BCC is an altcoin because it is in the minority. So if BCC surpasses BTC, does that mean that BTC becomes the altcoin?

In the first place, BCC won't surpasses in terms of usage and trading volumes. It was BCC who created the hard fork, they decide to mine on the new ruleset, and some continue on the old ruleset. No block produced under the new rules is valid under the old rules, and vice versa. In this case, the chains are eternally split with no chance of ever converging, no matter how much work is mined into each chain. So in essence, BCH is just an altcoin by diverging from the original BTC.

Yes,it would remain just an altcoin.BCC developers tried to develop it as a substitute for bitcoin but due to lack of support,it have to just remain as an altcoin.Even most of those who get BCC equal to BTC are also ready to just dump their BCC as soon as possible and buy BTC with it.So BCC would remain alive for only few days.

They still think that by increasing the blocksize they would get more support. But on the contrary, people have stay away from it and remain loyal to bitcoin. Looks like it is the case, people just get free BCC then dumped it quickly. But it will remain alive as long as there are people still believing and supporting it, although the price would be really low like $100 or less.

Why we need this BCC if we have normal old bitcoin Huh
You think so and that's all. For some people this "normal old bitcoin" isn't good and they think it has to be changed. For example bitcoin has high transaction fees low block size, so on bitcoin cash it will be 8 mb which is pretty good for some people. We don't need BCC, some people needs it, so you can simply don't use it and ignore.

Why we need this BCC if we have normal old bitcoin Huh

Because the people behind this "alternative coin" think that bitcoin is not really the digital currency they've looked up in the past and they want it to make a turn. If you can read the other posts, it has the same features as bitcoin but with a few modifications. So I think you can say an altcoin with their dream feature to bitcoin.
Moreover, they even maintain that the 'good old' one is actually bcc, for it is closer to classic bitcoin, no segregation here, just a block which is a lot bigger.
I don't think bcc can win over btc and the fact that no natural hard fork took place is actually for it but it is doing extremely impressive now. 50% up on coinmarketcap, already number three in capitalization whereas other coins usually pave their way to the top quite slowly.

Someone say yes someone say no. Explain me in scientific way. yes or no?

Trying to be logical...

Altcoin has always meant "cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin".

This has worked well in the past, but today we have two distinct coins that both have a very good claim to the name "Bitcoin".  I submit that "Bitcoin" as it is used in the above definition no longer refers to a unique coin.  I submit that neither BCH nor BTC are altcoins.

Now, going forward, we may well refer to the BTC branch as "Bitcoin" and the BCH branch as "Bitcoin Cash", but I claim that in doing so we're subtly shifting the definition of "Bitcoin" and that this natural evolution of language does not invalidate the above logic.

Yes, Bitcoin cash is an alt coin even though it has the name "Bitcoin" in it, it is still an alternative to bitcoin. I don't think that Bitcoin cash has much of the potential as Bitcoin and I don't think that Bitcoin cash will ever overtake Bitcoin.

I don't think that Bitcoin cash will ever overtake Bitcoin especially with the huge amounts of attention Bitcoin has been receiving soon.

Yeah I agree, bitcoin cash is just indeed only an altcoin and it could never overtake bitcoins.
The very fact that majority of the exchanges and other services accepting bitcoins,
has denounced bitcoin cash will mean that it will likely just fall down and be forgotten.

Yes, it is an altcoin coming out from bitcoin, having a slightly different nature from bitcoin but likely to be another version of it i guess.

It is termed as an altcoin though it got evolved from the bitcoin on a splitting. It has got its own value and the price move has got initiated without making any negative impact over the bitcoin. May be in future this will grow same as our bitcoin.
