It did neither to me. I could have let it wreck my life but thank god I didn't have the money to keep buying in every 4 hours and betting more.

that is such a complicated question , but i think the reason for people getting addicted to gambling is coming from their greed . it is the nature of humans to be greedy and some people have this feature more than others and so they will waste their money on gambling in hope that they would win a lot of money and be rich.
also the thrill of gambling is something else to consider too.

because gambling is exciting; people love the momentary rush from risking their money, and the thrill of winning money for little to no effort get people hooked like nothing else.

that piece of advice is said so often, but no one follows it. never gamble what you cant afford to lose, but threads saying "i lost me life savings on bitcoin gambling" pop up here every now and then.
