The banning of Crypto currency advertisements did not impact on the decentralization of Bitcoin. We still have the same amount of nodes and it even increased after these announcements. Yes, the price dropped a little, because some of the scammers were unable to advertise their scams on social media, but other than that, it is business as usual.

Governments are not going to stop decentralized crypto currencies by cutting off advertisement opportunities on social media. We still have other media and word of mouth advertising opportunities.
Besides, I think that it is already a way too late for such actions from the authorities. Already thousands of people are aware of bitcoin and they are going to spread the words now even if ads are banned. Nothing can hurt bitcoin and the more governments will go against it, the more people are going to hate government because public is well aware of the benefits bitcoin can give.

A single government - not so much - united government, potentially. Most of all, many companies have an interest of their own to work together with the government and compromise a bit to make their dealing more secure on a legal basis. Wink

Governments will continue to try getting rid of Bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies decentralised nature helps them to survive ban attempts. It will be impossible for them to ban Bitcoin nodes, it is not possible to cut off trafic to them. I think that cryptocurrencies will win, more and more famous people are getting seriously into Bitcoin and I think the won't Bitcoin be banned completely. Cryptocurrencies will eventually replace fiats but it will take a lot of time since governments will continue to fight for a long time. Fortunately, there are some countries like Japan and South Korea which will implement them.

I think a coordinated government effort to shutter cryptocurrency could send the remains of the crypto-world underground, the question in my mind is if there is enough support for crypto right now that will force government to accept and regulate crypto instead of trying to shut it down.

True. A well coordinated government can make cryptocurrency become almost nothing but the thing there is that not all government is against cryptocurrency, that's why they still some level of influence.

The direct answer will be "NO" but giving it a second thought considering the recent "hammer dropdown" will create an impression that government is really winning the fight.

The price of Crypto has been dropping due to government dropping "an heavy hand" and interference in the crypto world then followed by the biggest social media like Google, Facebook, Twitter.

That's sad...

Will they succeed?

What are your thought?

Government today no doubt possesses some high level of imaginable powers that can make anything go away if they so wish but this power is not absolute as they have to justify the use of this power. The simple truth is that all of this powers were given to them by the people or assumed to be given to them by the people and only the giver of such powers can actually retract such powers. Today we have seen excesses of government but because they have been able to influence some people and make them see things in their own way it makes it difficult to call such to questioning.

On the issue of decentralization, concluding that they would lose or win would be to the extreme which is not right but my thought for or against would be on one condition which is if the majority of the people allows them.

Yes, but this is only because people are still afraid to invest in btc or cryptocurrencies, due to the possibility of losing their money when the government tries to punish this

If they really wanted to, they could. But really allocating the resources to do so would be pointless. If regulated correctly, btc could be beneficial for both government and its citizen. Additionally a single government wouldnt be able to do it. There has to be inter government cooperation.

Obviously no but since we don't have unity as of now and the volume of actual user base actively supporting decentralization is very low as compared to that of supporters of centralization.  This is the biggest obstacle when it comes to advocate centralization on a bigger scale but I am happy with the growth rate so far and I believe that we will see a united group of people actively coming together for the betterment of decentralization. Bitcointalk forum is one of those noble efforts.

In opposition to the crypto currency, governments will definitely benefit, because they have powerful levers of control and coercion, which have been formed for centuries. Decentralized crypto currency must go in a society governed by governments. Therefore, the rules of circulation for crypto currency will be set by them. Crypto-currency should not be too much of a conflict with governments, but one should not concede in matters of principle. As always, the golden mean must be observed.

At the moment I believe the answer is yes, but over time decentralized cryptocurrency will become much larger than global governments and there will be a true alternative for people that want to take money out of the current controlled system.

That question should be addressed not to cryptocurrency itself but to the whole cryptocurrency community. The very survival of cryptocurrency is resting on the support of the people...without it the government will be more inclined not to support cryptocurrency and will instead do what it thinks can be the best for the situation and that can include killing cryptocurrency movement as it might not be gaining any big advantages on the whole thing. But once the government can sense that more and more people are strongly supporting cryptocurrency it can easily compromise and formulate acceptable ways and means to deal with the whole matter. The problem is that people are getting afraid to show their strong support for this fledgling industry...or am I wrong?

Governments cannot stop the transactions. It is completely impossible. But as you mentioned they can try to stop people from using cryptocurrencies by making some rules.
But I don't think they want to stop them anymore. According to Cointelegraph, 22 countries sign declaration for european blockchain partnership. Some big countries are among these countries. Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Austria, Portugal and Ireland have signed the declaration.

Well, I agree with you. Even they do or make everything to stop implementing and adapting bitcoin I think there's a small chances that it can be possible but that doesn't mean that they can implement that rules all over the world because I think that it will depends on the countries government. Every country has a different belief and description to crypto and every government in one country has a freedom to choose what they wanted to implement to their country.

Governments can have an impact on the price of Bitcoin and other Cryptos where they can affect on
  • The process of converting Bitcoin into Origins(cash out): Through this process, the government can take out the big whales from the game.
  • More restrictions: The imposition of more laws that criminalize all those who have a Cryptocurrency that makes them use it on the black market only.

These assumptions need international consensus for their success, which is not available. Since these Cryptocurrencies are decentralized, the influence of individual governments remains limited.

you are confusing the fight against scammers with the fight against cryptocurrencies. what you are calling "hammer drop" is the first fight and there is nothing wrong with that. it is eliminating all the scumbags that have been scamming newcomers all this time, like the ICOs.

and the price of altcoins have been dropping like always it has nothing to do with anything but their pump and dumps.

All decisions are not governmental and big decisions. The negative information from the government is like a trap to help sharks catch their prey. The development of the market is not affected too much by the government and the media such as FB, Twitter because whales and sharks are the ones who decide the trend.

For my opinion not all government has hate cryptocurrency other's even support cryptocurrency to be their alternative fiat money, so you can't say that they're winnings, because it's a long fight of cryptocurrency to be happen.

Nothing lasts forever
I believe if it happens right now then YES the government will win the fight. To be honest, it is quite easy to manipulate people. Not everyone will get easily mamipulated but the world is filled with idiots. Crypto is still in it's initial stage and not massively adopted due to which the influence of the government is more heavier and that's why right now the crypto world is facing a doom. Unless crypto gets more support from the community and gets highly adopted it will be tough for it to defeat the system.

The fall of the cryptocurrency is not due to a dropping government, I think this is because of the bubble that is in a downward trend when after a high rise is being experienced in the year 2017 yesterday, and someday it will return bubbles again.

That bubble has busted due to government actions on exchanges. Yes, last year bitcoin prices raised many folds but burst those bubble some reason was required and that was government action. In India now exchanges are not allowed to do financial transactions with banks then can one buy and sell cryptos on these exchanges?

But no government has come up with a set of regulations but they just talking about putting regulations so people are not sure what to do and they now step back from trading. So demand for cryptos is slowly reducing and that's why prices are going down.

I love technology.
People are tired of centralized systems and decentralization has only begun with cryptocurrency. I would consider it more of a bridge that is being built everyday. We are not there yet, but if its what the masses want it will eventually be bigger then all governments.
