If you're intention is to be an anonymous donator for your favorite content creators then I must say that cryptocurrency is a good option as long as they accept this kind of donation. Cryptocurrency has become very useful in terms of donation if you're really keen to give your full support to a person or group, take this forum as an example.

I’ve been noticing that services such as Patreon have been booting off some content creators that have “violated” their terms and services. I was just wondering whether it would be possible to support my favorite content creators using cryptocurrency donations to their websites if they allow it?

I mean if the content creator that you are supporting accepts bitcoin than you can just send them, otherwise there other indirect ways to do so, like for example making a bitcoin debit card which you can buy and load it up with bitcoin balance and just use it as a regular credit card at any website or shop, and i am sure that in the future with the crypto becoming more and more popular we will see content websites accept it, for example amazon has brought up the option of adding bitcoin to the payment system and with that it might allow you to sub or donate for streamers on twitch with it .

That depends if they are accepting cryptocurrency then you should send to them. By the way, I don't think they are going to refuse it. Like who even refuses free money? Lol. If you check and it's there on their website that they are accepting cryptocurrency as a donation you can do that. But if not, you can still reach out to them to know whether they are accepting it and if they agree, you can request for their address and then send.

Of course, it is, especially because such platforms like paypal can refuse to provide services to you anytime, without any prior notification.
True, have been in a situation like this and it can be so frustrating. That's one of the reasons why Bitcoin is much better than all these other payment methods, you wouldn't have to worry about situations like this because you're completely in control of everything.

I believe that Twitch allowed the use of Bitcoin before to support content creators, correct me if I am wrong or they have tokens of their own to allow supporters to show their support for their favorite content creators through subscription or even donation.
If you can use cryptos for it, then there shouldn't be any problems as long as the platform you're doing that kind of support allows that kind of method.
Well, everything upon the support from the developers end. Very few continue the acceptance throughout while more service renders initiate and stop with change of terms and conditions when there isn't big revenue out of it. As stated twitch, and some other services have provided with the support of cryptocurrency acceptance.

From the developer of Brave browser evolved BAT which has got the primary purpose of tipping the content creators. Maybe such services gets added when cryptocurrency becomes more popular than the present.

Patreon is based in the US, in fact they can do it but are hampered by rules that force the structure of a non-crypto economic system, but do not ban content widely. I have not seen a good alternative, and bitpatron is not very interesting to use. Currently it can only use donation purses informally.

but it should have no problem with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency because there can be many who wanted to be paid this way.
And who says no with bitcoin otherwise receiving donations? No one, I guess.
But perhaps, no one still opening up this idea in Patreon team that's why they don't have any donation address or we could assume that they are really strict when it comes on their Terms of Services

    -----------

So the least you could do is just PM your favorite creator and tell them you gladly want to tip him. I'm wondering now who's your pick, I mean he's surely good.

The problem with this is the centralized nature of the authority of these platforms. If the CEO and his board members or their investors are not in favor of something, they will simply enforce or ban it on their platform. This can also be as a result of external pressure from their local governments.  Roll Eyes

A lot of these companies also have partnership agreements with other payment providers and when people use Crypto currencies, these payment providers will complain with these companies and then these companies will start to ban these alternative payment options.

So every platform are different and you will only see what they allow or what they do not allow, once you read their ToS.

Patreon is now known to be removing accounts in their platform even without proper warning and explanation of possible violations hence there are now many complaints on the site's censorship. As the most popular site for content creator, many are dismayed with this inclination of Patreon to be influenced by other powerful entities somewhat connected into its ecosystem. I am not too familiar with the TOS of Patreon and its stand on cryptocurrency but it should have no problem with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency because there can be many who wanted to be paid this way.

Another issue with direct crypto 'patreon' is probably the extra content for the supporters. It's easy to solve though, creators can give a link to a special discord or Telegram channel with the extra content, but that's up to the creators & supporters. If they're fine with it then there's no problem.

That's probably the main issue with bitcoin becoming a donation, it's pretty good for a single transaction, but compared to the other subscription models, it's just impossible to have it auto send monthly payments - unless you look at other cryptocurrencies and use a smart contract.

I'm pretty sure we would be able to make subscription payments with bitcoin through the lightning network like I said. Yes, unfortunately we would need to wait for the developers to build such a feature on LN wallets, but there's that. We just need a bit of patience.

You most likely can with smart contract cryptocurrencies if you're specifically referring to automated monthly donations. Unfortunately, automated monthly sending of funds isn't currently available on bitcoin(as far as I know), but as far as I know it's very possible through the lightning network. But of course, feel free to make donations to your favorite content creators if they publicly disclosed a donations address. If they don't, ask them to.

If you just want to help out, send a fair bit of BTC and don't worry about them for another year or 2, unfortunately these are the compromises we need to make with BTC in certain situations.

This is probably the question you should be asking your favorite content creators. Most of them will support it once they think they have enough audience that will pay them in bitcoins. They wouldn't take the pain to implement the system for like 2 people who are ready to pay in crypto.

I came across https://bitpatron.co/ which seems to be good alternative of patron without any censorship but it doesn't look like decentralized. Fee is just 1% compared to 10% in patron.

A smart contract based platform might be even better solution than anything that is centralized, government or authority can easily put bitpatron's founders behind bars and close the site in 1 second if they wanted to   Wink

I believe that Brave Browser allows this. There's a tipping feature which you can use but that content creator that you will support should also allow that feature so that the BAT that you will tip to him will be received. But if doesn't like that feature, you can simply ask him to have a donation address for each cryptocurrency that he prefers. These are the most preferred crypto for donations.
- BTC
- ETH
- Doge
- LTC

If the platform allows it so, and the content creator have their respective addresses, then there's really nothing wrong with that. It's also much better than going through intermediaries to reduce the fees associated with your donation. Just make sure the address is right so you don't just waste funds and throw them in the thin air. You could also request the creator to have his address (and maybe encourage him) if he still does not have, which would be seen by his other viewers for more publicity.

I think something like brave browser can help you with that but you can only tips one crypto currency which is BAT token. Using that browser you are able to tips video creators and website owners but the creators should register also in brave.

Or like what other said you can ask them thier address and send to them directly.

the thing about bitcoin is that it is decentralized (some of the other cryptocurrencies are too) this means that you don't need anybody's permission to make a transfer. so all you have to do is to ask for your favorite content creator's bitcoin (or other cryptocurrency) address and make your donation by sending him some coins.

What you should be doing is to review the Terms and Conditions of the platform you want to make the donation because even though the other party might be open to receiving such donations, if its against their policy be sure that your account will be nuked for it. However, if their policy is silent on the use of crypto, then you might scale through which does not mean the account will not be nuked because as part of their Terms is the right for them to change it overnight and they are not under any obligation to notify you of it.

The reason whey they do that is because they want to be sure that operators on their platform are operating within the confines of acceptable parameters not to put them in legal trouble.

I dont think Patreon will allow direct payment between parties using CC, since this will eliminate Patreon from the entire payment process and that's prime reason why all centralized system are againest CC.
