As much as I agree with your post, but I believe each investor have his own investment goals. Some want to hold crypto for the long term, some just want make quick bucks and some might need money for emergency.
It would be better if you keep your altcoin, in my opinion it will be better, be patient while waiting for the market to rise and then you can sell your altcoins in the future and certainly will benefit

For me it all depends on what my needs is. If I were to cash out all my altcoins, I think it is much better for my altcoins to be exchange in dollars than bitcoin specially when I am planning to cash out and not investing. For me it is better to keep partially in BTC and altcoins 50%, and to hold the rest in dollars. In this case, there is always a safety net.
I only convert to fiat when I'm in need of tangible money but if not, I convert my tokens/altcoins to bitcoin and let it stay until it's time to buy altcoins again.

Now while btc is very down it's better to exchange it to btc so that if btc pump you will have more and huge profit from it because dollars is not that good when times like this.
