I've been connecting my metamask to the opensea so many times and i never encounter any problem. As long as the site already proven its credibility and it's safe to connect your metamask to the opensea. You may need to remember that never try to join in any suspicious site. Opensea is the biggst NFT market and the team will not try to destroy it. It's crazy if opensea was doing a shady thing like that.
They will never care with your money. Opensea itself already funded and it has a very big income from the NFT sellers on its market.

I think they cannot access your wallet they only allow you to have an account with your wallet that is what they said. For general use connect an interim account to Metamask and not your main accounts and transfer from your main account to your Metamask account and then do the transaction. These are compensating controls for in case something goes wrong with Metamask.

You do not have problem by connecting Metamask wallet to Opensea, the problem is that Metamask wallet itself is a web wallet, web wallets are riskier than any other wallet, hackers prefer to attack web wallets because it is easier to hack, that is why people always complain that their web wallet is hacked.
