Signature campaigns means wearing signatures under our profiles which is like promoting their services on this forum.

Oh, I see. Thanks, I get it now. I think I do not have anything to worry since I have no services to offer anyway.

I agree with this. I was wondering why the op's post got merited when I saw it and I don't think it's a good idea to do. If you're going to merit them at least merit their merit-worthy post, because it's clear people are just creating these sorts of threads 'agreeing' with the merit system just to try get a merit. Then once they have; job done as they've got what they need. Others then see this then they try their hand at it.

Sorry if you think that I did that only to get merit, but I understand why others will be suspicious of it. I would definitely think twice myself if I was in everyone else's position. I hope someday I could prove everyone wrong and that I did not post this just to get merit or any attention at all. I was just really curious since everyone else is talking about it in a lot of the threads, even in the off-topic section.

You need merits only if you want to have signatures under your profile so if you are not caring about them and do't want to join on the signature campaigns then you no need to worry about the merits because this is only for bounty hunters but high merits can be a prestigious thing and known member of this community but there is no necessary to have any merits.

To be honest I have no idea what the signature campaigns is all about, but everyone else seems to be so concerned about gaining merits, so I had to ask about it because I do not want to not be able to post a reply or start a thread just because I do not have merits. Fortunately, it turns out I have nothing to worry about. Thank you for enlightening me!
You can create threads anywhere like the high rank member do but if you found spamming you can be nuked but it is nly for newbies now you became junior member you no need to worry about those.

This is what the forum is all about, I've said it many times. Don't chase the merit, just post when you feel you have something to say, not because you are pushed to post by the sig. campaign rules. Then you don't have to worry about the merit, and it will come eventually Smiley

I see. Thank you for this. Sadly, I am guilty of having alot of posts, but I did not do that for signature campaign. I do not even have signature on my profile. I am glad that I can still continue to post even without having to worry so much about the merits.

No, trust is only market-related and you build it only based on your training history. There are some exceptions too, like bad behaviour not moderated by the forum staff sometimes lead to a negative trust from the Default Trust Member (DTs), those are scams, merit abuse, asking for loan without collateral, cheating on bounties with alt accounts, etc

When you said market related, does that mean once I have started buying bitcoins, that is when I should worry about my trust ratings?

I understand the importance of merits, but for a bitcoin user who does not really need signatures at the bottom of their profiles, should merits still matter? Is it possible to continue as a bitcointalk member even without trying too hard to achieve a single merit? Does the merit have anything to do with trust ratings? If you ask then what is the purpose of joining here, my answer would be because I would really like to learn about bitcoin and the crypto world so that I could buy bitcoins and altcoins. Thanks! I hope you can enlighten me.

Merit doesn't matter at all unless you're only here to earn via a signature. You don't need any merits to be able to post and if you contribute something worthwhile then you will get them anyway. People should be less concerned about actual merit but the quality of their posts. If a quality post doesn't get merited then so what. Keep making them and your chances will increase and you will get them eventually.

And why i have good day for now and your post history looks ok and good  you will get one from me , so i have done my good thing for today  Grin

But is it a good thing you did?

Your simple action of giving merit to a post in Meta is going to encourage thousands of accounts to try the same thing.  :/

I agree with OP's comments and in my opinion, for jr.members that become a newbie really is after with the merit system since they are into signature bounty campaign where the rank minimum requirement is a jr.member to be able to participate. However, for those participants that are not really engage in bounties do not really care for merits after all, they just want to make a contribution through posting comments in this forum for the crypto community.

1. At the Bitcointalk Forum does anyone who forces someone to work instantly depends on ourselves to achieve better?
Of course there are benefits to Merit, one of the rank ranks increases, and can be taken good by all Members of the Forum, of course the positive ones.

2. The goal is certainly to learn more about crypto and Bitcoin as well as the information, but what needs to be understood and planted in the soul, to know the science of crypto and bitcoin is not solely in this forum in the outside media we can follow more accurate developments.

Not saying you did anything wrong. Considering you had gone through their post history and found them to be a decent member of the forum deserving of merit, could you not have merited a post that you reviewed.

Either way, I'm glad to see you reviewed their previous posts before giving the merit, as it is more effort on your part. I understand what VOD means because the shitposters see it as a beacon to create another topic here and they might get a merit to. Though they usually wind up doing something stupid and getting neg'd or busted for plagiarism.

To OP, you've already had the answer you were seeking. I just want to ad that's the perfect attitude to have here on the forum. Come for the knowledge stay for the community.

I just had a good day and mood , and the history of this User isnt bad , sure you remember that there are few crazy other Users with a strange post history!

Besides, it was the first newbie I gave merit.
Whether it was a good thing or not we will see.

merit is just a reward you get for posting and sharing quality content that help to enhance the growth of the bitcointalk community.caring about so much on merit result to spamming the forum because most people dont think and read before commenting on a trend.my advice is that don't care about merit but care about quality content by so doing merit reward will come along side with it.

The forum bitcointalk was co-founded by satoshi to help educate newbies on what bitcoin is all about. The whole merit issue was introduced to tackle spam thereby increasing the level of high quality posts.
Yes you can exist as a member without concentrating on the merit side of the forum. It's even best you don't put all your attention on it because if you do and don't get them it might give you depression/frustrate your stay on forum.

Of course, the main reason why those spammers were really trying hard to receive merit is because of their paid signature campaign, they become greedy and they want higher rates. Don't worry about receiving merits, as long as people can find your post interesting and helpful there's a chance that even though you don't need Merits that much, you'll still will receive it.

That is actually the real purpose of the forum. As long as you're not violating any rules then just keep doing what you were doing. Merits will come to your way.

Of course it's ok lol, I do that all the time, and merit doesn't have to do anything with trust ratings it's more of a shitposting measure.

Watch out for threads in altcoin discussion though, most spammers just leave answers that doesn't answer the original question or makes a valid discussion in it.

When i look at your post history it looks like you are one of good Users without spamming on Bountys or else !
I agree, from the posts I was able to view, they don't seem to be all that bad--they're at least not poorly-written and that counts for a lot in my book.  No shame for you giving him a merit.

I'll keep him on my radar for future posts that might be deserving of merit.  There aren't many noobs deserving of the, so it's really nice when some of them pop up and make their presence known.  Hopefully there's no plagiarism going on, but I'll figure it out before handing out any merits.  Right now I have none, but that'll change.
