There are 15 Old-era-Newbies already ranked up to Hero Members (based on a table that given by DdmrDdmr, and I am one of them; it is certainly that more guys like me to come.
Theymos actually did a great initiative for the forum. Let's imagine what happened if the forum would not have had merit system since Jan. 2018? Thousands or hundreds of thousands shitposters would have ranked up to Hero Members; and they are powerful spammers; kind of Hero spammers.
Plagiabot and its consequently massive temp-bans are other things contribute to clean up the forum, beyond merit system.

It's too bad to read this opinion from a self-made high ranked account. The administration may help you solve problems with Access and Use of your account like recovering accounts or lock/Unlock accounts, as they are already busy with reported posts and other stuffs. Do you really think I can contact theymos to hide my username and that he has to serve me?
Saint Loup didn't interpreted your message wrong, please don't encourage users doing stupid things, the forum has a fixed set-up and the administration is here to keep it running.
Features can be publicly discussed but don't expect them to be set for just one user.

No I don't think they are here to serve you, they don't owe you anything and you have not any entitlement for this kind of personal request. If you don't like the forum how it is you are free to go elsewhere, it's not the purpose of the forum to satisfy your whims. Thankfully there isn't 1 million user like you, but if you encourage this behavior here, there will be thousands for sure.

Well @Saint-loup, I don't understand how you interpreted my message but you should understand the very moment any individual take on a public office, he/she have made themselves accessable to the public and that's what theymos did when he took over adminstration of the forum. Putting a don't merit me sign up there only attracts attention to yourself. Some forum members might even consider it an indirectly attempt to beg for merit. If you want something skip the middle man and go to the source especially when they can't do anything possible to help you (that's my principle). @Theymos isn't complaining (atleast to my knowledge). I believe OP is referring to useable accounts but these accounts status you're referring to aren't useable. It's not possible to do that, well maybe theymos can do this personally just for your account, but I doubt he is going to do that. So, you can do some things yourself. If you don't want to receive merits, just put big red letters on your signature "Don't give me merits". And you should just don't send any of your sMerits to anyone.

Just give you sMerits to Theymos if you don't want to support the system. I think it would be a shame though. You can always keep your sMerits, and use them to encourage posters that you think are beneficial to the forum.

Great question I gave you 2 merits for it. This means you can give someone a merit.

The best way to destroy your give away merits is to send them to a banned account.

On a variation of this idea. Rather then a merit ban how about a 30 day signature ban.

No signatures for anyone for 30 days. Then see what it does to forum traffic.

After 30 days allow signatures to return.

@theymos can do it but you need a convincing reason to convince him to do it.
Until then, if the Merit system causes you trouble, you can request a user script to completely hide it. "This update will only be associated with your account."

This question is actually quite funny lol. It gets worse if somebody will ask the same thoughts but on the trust system. (an account that is anti- trust?) and guess they might follow the idea of contacting theymos for that

I guess to do it is put a text on your text profile or on your signature that you probably don't want any merit to be received. That way I guess people will never give you a single merit, though it isn't a 100% that you will not get it, still there's possibility if you will explain it fully that you didn't really want it.
