Hey.
Is it safe to exchange big amounts on non-custodial exchangers like changelly or shapeshift, or are they designed for small transactions?
I'm a newbie and I want to know if it's safe. Also, I want to know if it's safe to exchange crypto on classical exchanges like binance.
When you have a large amount , it is better to trade on larger exchanges by type binance , most likely you will have to pass kyc at this exchange , as they can block the withdrawal , I have been many times when I withdraw funds starting at$ 100,000

The best advice and probably the one which will save you a lot of unforseen circumstances is by trading or exchanging your crypto assets no matter how small or big on prominent exchanges of which Binance is one of them. The reason for this is, in case of any issue you can easily access the customer care to work on your issue, and also with Binance being a major exchange they will always ensure all activities are adequately taken care of. Thus, visit Binance and exchange your assets, if you are not a kyc fan then exchange in batches less na 2btc.

personally I wouldn't risk it with changelly or shapeshift. I always use binance or similar reputation exchange. There is always some degree of risk and you should limit it the best you can...

There's one case here:

(https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/9cqmm2/do_not_use_changelly_they_steal_monero/) and

There's is always risk here, specially if you don't have the private keys. Better use trusted exchanges like Binance. At least they are transparent and if you have issues with them, you can make a noise on their twitter account.

I suggest if you are exchanging a large number of btc,it is better to choose an exchange that is known to be able to serve (respond) to problems quickly.Currently Binance is a favorite of big traders. It's not wrong if you join Binance, they have a pretty good reputation, even the famous Binance serves a problem very quickly.never trade, invest in new exchanges or don't know many people.

I always tell my friends that when issues of money arises, that we should be careful and explore as much options as possible especially in this crypto space. Now talking about big amounts, in my own opinion, the best way to exchange such is via major exchanges where you have securely protected your accounts, and on of this major exchanges is Binance. For changelly etc, I would suggest you use them for small amounts while for big amounts try major exchanges; but preferably major exchanges are the best for any type of crypto exchange.

I think its more better to use well-known exchange wether its small or large amounts so you wont have doubts on your money at least a reputable exchange will be more actively respond to your problems because they dont want to lose their reputation.
Well said, the reputable exchanges will be able to solve any problem quickly and their support team is always responsive. The money related movements should be checked dobule times before executing it. Well-known exchanges are my priority choice than risking my hard-earned money with the small exchanges. For small amounts, big exchanges will not risk the year's reputation in my opinion.

If they do not have limit, then you can process your transaction. If you do not trust them, then do not do it. But both company belong among the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, so where do you get that they are designed for small transactions?
KYC is essential for the big amounts and Shapeshift management keep the right to ask the source of the funds if they see the suspicious transaction from the same IP address from my experience. That's why using the bigger exchanges will be more acceptable by the majority of the traders with considerable knowledge.

You can exchange any amount from Changelly but I uggest don't exchange big amount you should exchange in parts and shapeshift is not popular conversion website as compared to Changelly, You should exchange altcoins from Binance if you're not comfortable with changelly or shapeshift.

At the expense of whether it is possible to exchange large amounts on the above exchangers, I can not say anything. But on the account of the binance exchange I can say for sure what is possible if you have a verified account. Indeed, in case of any problems, the exchange will reimburse you all the funds. Also, binance specifically goes to meet users, for usa they created a separate exchange on which only tokens that are allowed by the USA government are supported.

If you have no problem with KYC then you should use exchange like binance or kucoin but if you don't want to go through KYC process then use changelly, all you have to do is trade in batches,if you want to trade lets say 10k usd worth of BTC for other coins just trade by 2k repeatedly

All it takes is one errant staff to intercept and decide to steal your funds if it is really large. Why not send it in batches over a series of different exchangers instead of using only one at a go. Those exchangers might be safe but you never know. Best to be on the safer side with your money

If you ask about security, many large exchanges have a high level of security but can still be broken, so I think thats not good if save assets in the exchange. I don't blame certain exchanges, just in case, of course preventif is better.

I can't guarantee that bro. Even biggest exchange like MTGOX finally got destroyed and being scam. Just save your fund on the wallet which is privete key in your own hand. So no more feeling worried.
I think the OP has mean to exchange the money into fiat or to another cryptocurrency which is mean he needs a third party to do it. I just got your point that the OP will safe the fund to long term investment and he should choose hardware wallet to save them, right? But it doesn't OP mean.

For OP, some people above me has gave a right path to do what you want, just use reputable exchange and you will comfortable when you move your fund. Don't try to choose unknown exchange I mean an exchange who have no known well by most people on this forum because just 30% your money will safe.

If big amount us what you can afford to use and to lose, then why not? If it is also small amount you can go by, you should, but do not because people are convincing and luring you, then decide to change your mind in doing otherwise.
Yes, it is truly volume is needed on decentralized exchanges or other CEXes that seem to be small, but one should try as much as possible not to be used as bait.

If you tend to exchange bigger amounts like over 1btc i'd suggest you use biggest exchanges like binance, okex, huobi etc,i actually trust changelly though but the highest ive excchange on changelly so far is 2k dollers worth of Eth to bitcoin and the transaction was a success with no delay

They could be. But it would be wise to do exchange in batches than a large sum. Not because the security or legitimacy of the exchange but also for not attracting unnecessary attention. When you are exchanging something above 1BTC, the fees would be nearly similar for a 10BTC transaction and 10 1BTC transactions. I'd not bother to split any transaction below 1BTC.
