I have been using the MyEtherWallet for a long time, and there have never been any problems with this wallet. However, I don't recommend storing a large amount of money on it, for such purposes, use a cold wallet.
Mew is a great wallet, very simple and easy to use. It is important only to keep it in bookmarks on your computer, and not to fall on phishing sites. I haven't had a problem using myetherwallet itself. One time, i accidentally entered my private key on a disguised myetherwallet website where i lost my tokens. Luckily I have just started crypto and my wallet have not that great of a value. This accident is not because of myetherwallet and It was because my own stupidity so i have no beef with myetherwallet.
I really like MEW and I think it is very secure, although I heard and have read some stories that it was hacked by phishing sites or people received scam mail's and I think it was peoples fault, that they were fooled and got scammed, as they gave their details by their own weal and didn't pay attention well enough!

I recommend using Metamask instead of MEW, Metamask is easy to use and in my opinion it is safer than MEW. You do not need to input the Private key or JSON to use your wallet.

If you are good at securing your files and you know how to do to secure login then use it, in my case I prefer the desktop version of mycrypto it's much more safer I also use myetherwallet but not using it to store large amount of coins, so many hacking incidents in Myetherwallet.

The website is very ieasy to understand and there are instructions on how yo use it properly There are thousands of videos on youtube if the written instructions is not working for you. For security, as long as no one can access your Private Key, you're coins are safe.
