Some people say that like cryptocurrencies are the only things which destroy the environment by consuming too much electric energy. But it is not true. We have so much bigger problems than this. They also know that but they choose to attack Bitcoin mining only.

In order to answer your question, I need you to first answer my question. Beginning with the subject title.

Do you have any idea how much of the environment and ecosystem has been destroyed and degraded for centuries, all in the name of mining the precious metals?

Why is it an issue now with Bitcoin mining using just a small part of energy, most of which I believe is not even from fossil fuels?

How about?

Continous growth of car numbers which do make even more our air poluted?
Generating more plastic which cant really be decayed?
Etc.

Energy issue on Bitcoin is just a bullshit excuse just for those non coiners to focus on for them to create something to counter on bitcoins existence.
They dont even consider those current things which are giving more threat on mother earth.

If they do mind much about being green then they should find out to solve first those old issues that we cant resolve until this very moment.

The fact is most of the things poses a threat to the environment. Microplastics in your toothpaste or even the small plastic bag that we get from wallma often..be it cars or be it big companies making necessary products. The whole concept of nonveg meal and even a simple milk. Now what people are doing here is , highlighting just one problem because they see other alternatives which do not require heavy mining machinery but forget that Bitcoins will stop being mined after a small amount of time but the long term effects of other cryptocurrencies are strictly the same.
Now they want to deviate the people but rather they should think about asking people to use renewable sources of energy. They can integrate it with their machines and viola ! Probelm solved.

Certainly, it's not really good what's happening in the mining industry but that's because of greedy businessmen who will do everything in their life to gain as much profit as possible, doesn't matter whether it will be bitcoin or any other thing. In life everything has it's pros and cons.
Just remember! Cryptocurrencies are financial freedom! And I don't think that bitcoin is great, eco-friendly for mining and also, this coin isn't the verdict. If it's number one right now, doesn't mean that the same trend will continue. Just wait, there will be something better than bitcoin in trend in near future I believe the energy consumption problem will be solved

Bitcoin isn't a threat but mining it using non-green energy contributes to the existing problem we call as global warming.

There are miners mixing the source of electricity for mining but it's still unclear how many percent is renewable and non-renewable. There is a Bitcoin Mining Council formed recently to address these issues so just wait for their report.

Even for those that ignore the environmental damage of Bitcoin Mining.
The literal collapse of a power grid because bitcoin mining exceeds the safe capacity of that specific power grid,
is the ultimate danger to all people on the same grid.

If their is a heat wave or subzero temps and multiple bitcoin mining operations,
their is very little wiggle room as excess power capacity is now gone.
At best this means rolling blackouts to preserve the power grid from being fried.
At worst, the rolling blackouts don't save the grid and transformers are destroyed,
this means the grid will be down for years, before full operations are restored not days.
That is the ultimate danger of Bitcoin mining , is making entire regions unlivable by power grid destruction.
Which is why China and Iran stopped the bitcoin mining as it was in danger of collapsing their power grids.
Because even Government officials admit protecting their people is more important than protecting a proven proof of waste system call Bitcoin mining.

Go turn off the main circuit breaker to your home, and leave it off for 24 hours
now you can't cook, your lights are out , the cold or heat become unbearable without electric heat or air,
you can't use your computer, your phone charge is out, the food in your refrigerator is ruin, if you had any medicine in the refrigerator it is also ruin, no running water. In other words your life has become a living hell without electricity.
Now imagine , this will be the way it is, for 2 years, and now you understand the real danger of bitcoin mining to you and your loved ones.

The threat is in the form of increasing global warming which results in climate change. Generating Bitcoin requires a capable computer to solve complex mathematical puzzles and high electricity consumption. so that some countries prohibit mining for several other reasons such as in China and Iran some time ago. if so will bitacoin and others be able to run forever or is this just an excuse to change the green field to red..
