OP, I wouldn't call you a newbie. Looking at your post history, you can tell that you are fairly familiar with cryptocurrencies. You understand trading, don't you? Why not write in the trading section and give good advice to real beginners.
After asking about a good project, and reading several of your posts, I have the impression that you are not the first owner of the account. However, if you are interested in the stories of people who have achieved promotion, I think it will be useful to read this thread.

Since the merit system was introduced years has passed. Today, it is much easier to get merit than it was in 2018. First of all there are less people on the forum. Second reason - those who wanted to rank up, already did it, so you have less competitors. Third reason - people nowadays dont hold merit like they used to. Sometimes I feel that merit source dont even know where to spend his merit.

Bounties. I think the amount of bounties has greatly decreased since the the time you have registered. So I would suggest to participate in anyone you feel like would succeed or project be demanded. It is a lottery in the end. No matter in which campaign you participate, no matter who is the manager, no matter what project aim to achieve, you can still spend time for nothing or suddenly get a lot for easy tasks from a tiny project.

You have a long journey ahead. Good signature campaigns have become highly rated people who have merits and share useful content for the community. Therefore, developing yourself will be the beginning that you will benefit from personally before benefiting from the financial return.

The price of Bitcoin is now low and we may not go down further so until then investing any surplus money would be a smart idea.
Getting merits is not difficult, you just got 4 Merits.

You Stayed in these forum since 2017 till date and you haven't ranked up to hero member? That's very appalling!

Hey bro!
that is very possible, i have already seen most members whom have been active since 2017 and yet have not ranked up to the such levels. now as then i can say he/she has little knowledge about the forum have only been thought about bounties so even as that has not been posting enough to gain more activities to would made them rank up.

now i will love you to look into this thread here or image below will help you.

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

Activity is updated every hour.

The new membergroup limits work like this: (Edit: Obsolete, do not use)
GroupRequirement
Brand New0 posts
Newbie(none)
Jr. Memberactivity: 30
Memberactivity: 60
Full Memberactivity: 120
Sr. Memberactivity: 240
Hero Memberactivity: 480
Legendaryoccurs randomly between 775 and 1030 activity

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

So by then he might have less than 30 post activity to make a user rank up.

I'm into this forum since 2017, not that active but today I came back since this pandemic force me to continue my journey in crypto market.

I've been part of many bounty before and participate on bounties last year and guess what, some of them didn't pay at all.

Any tips on how to look for a better project and what can I do to increase my rank?
Don't get me wrong here, I still consider myself a newbie and hoping to hear your advices.

Keep creating a good quality post and remain activity in the forum to make you rank up, maybe before joining good signature campaign as you wanted to earn from the forum.

Actually, all members here even they are newbies with newbie rank also have similar chances to be in this forum, have similar chances to have higher ranks, to earn money, to wear good signatures with good payment.
We can see that many members here are struggling from low ranks to higher ranks and then getting good payment from their signature campaign.
Many spammers at the past time struggled to repair their mistakes, learn and earn, try and try again to be a better poster, they can grow to be higher rank with much better posts and contributions, and then also can get involved in the good campaign with good payment.
Many newbies are also learning from basic, very basic, from knowing nothing to knowing more things here, by learning, again and again, they can exactly grow as well to a higher rank, and then earning money from the good signature campaign.
Everyone has that chance exactly they want to learn, try, and learn again to be more contributive, not lazy to read what's on this forum and new on this forum.
Come on, if others can do it, you can also do it. Avoid joining shit project bounty campaign

I agree with what was stated above that the opportunity will not be based on ranks. And for me two types of opportunity I can gain there 1st is knowledge it's a big opportunity to expand our knowledge about bitcoins and related crypto currencies by reading some article/thread here in forum. And 2nd is the opportunity to earn some crypto by joining bounty campaigns and some mangers offers even newbie can join their twitter, youtube campaigns.

Bounty campaigns may or may not pay you at all. Remember that many projects that are conducting bounty campaigns are scam. Others are half-serious or not all. Still others do not really offer anything at all. So joining bounty campaigns would either give you nothing or a small amount.

There may be a good project or two but it's gonna be a needle in a haystack. Perhaps it helps if you join bounty projects which are promoted by quality managers. Or if not, perhaps there might be some campaigns which pay you in tokens that already have value like ETH or USDT or BNB or whatever. Or why not join Bitcoin-paying campaigns? Explore all options.

Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin
I'm not sure if I'm old enough in the forum to advise an old forum member!
You were active, and I don't see anything wrong with doing bounties or promoting whatever you want, but making posts on Altcoins isn't worth it. It's just a primary board for post counts, and great discussions don't happen there.
You must understand that in order to interact in a new environment, you must first learn the ways of that environment, so learn about bitcoin and the forum, and ranking up will naturally follow.

If you read even better what he said, you will find that he is not so active on forum, also consider himself a newbie because of that. So, inactive users can't much improve their rank.

You were only too concerned about earning first as a priority and it ended you up in some Fake ass campaign managers that only had you to work for free and swallow the money ... That's very discouraging...

When someone who's wearing a 1xbit signature says how someone is only concerned with earning money.  Shocked

It's fine, you still have a good account, you can build up from your stand now and maybe in the nearest six months- one-year, you should be able to gain yourself some merits to ranks up.
Just keep grinding dude, remember nothing good comes easy:
Make quality posts and contributions and even when it looks as if it isn't noticed, just keep doing it ....
You won't even notice when you rank up

I would suggest translating good articles from the forum into your local forum. If that's a possibility of course. Other than that, just participating in serious discussions should be enough. As the inevitable crypto winter comes, fewer people will be active on the forum, but don't let that discourage you, it's the perfect time to deepen your knowledge of crypto and to take advantage of that when the market gets back on its feet.

You have indicates what makes you to be inactive to the community for period of time, really being a bounty hunter brings setback to a user, because bounty will destroy your profile and you will not able to make anything meaningful concerning contribution to the community, it's better to choose one and leave another, you can earn reasonable amount of merit if you rebrand your self and make a research and quality post.

Can't give ya tips for "better project", it's all just DYOR to be honest. For your rank, good thing that you aren't those users where their post history is mainly composed of bounty reports from what I can observe from yours. You'll need to step up on your way of posting and forget about bounties for now.

Loved that glass art you made by the way while I was checking your posting history.

Yes, you can see rank up threads on multiple section who are the people managed to rank up even if they registered into the forum recently so if they can then you can too but if you are going to make post with the intention of gaining merit then it won't look good so people may avoid meriting it. Just be good to the community and it will give something back to you so get yourself a place and let the rest into the hands of community.

You seem to have spent a lot of time on bounty campaigns judging by your activity points and number of posts, but if it didn’t pay off in 2017 why do you think it should pay off today? Earnings in these projects are only on the side of those who own, and those who present them on the forum (managers). Everyone else gets (or doesn’t get at all) a bunch of worthless tokens that serve no purpose.

Any tips on how to look for a better project and what can I do to increase my rank?

My advice is to forget bounty campaigns, you will do yourself and others a great favor. Start reading forum posts, try to write a quality post and you can quickly become a Full Member, and then the door opens for you to join a signature campaign. Even if you only get $40 a week that way, it's immensely more than wasting time on bounty campaigns.

The pandemic was the ignition that drove many in third world countries to cryptocurrency. Bad economy and loss of jobs was rampant last year. Traders had the advantage during the lockdown cause they could conveniently work from home.

I can’t say for bounties. Signature campaigns are more reliable although limited to certain ranks. Some campaign managers like yahoo give opportunities for member rank to participate in their campaigns. If you’re here for the money you can as well learn along the way.

There's always opportunity here, you just need to do more effort so you can find those opportunities.
The higher the rank the better, do your best to achieve it.

This is the problem, there's no way to determine which is good or bad project until the bounty distributions will be distributed or not. When you still want to participate in bounties, you'll still have a chance getting scammed.

What you're looking is merit and you don't need to think hard to get it, as you know it depends on your post quality and how useful it is. If they think it's good post and useful you'll got rewarded, if not then try become better.
