Yea, accept that Phinneas disappeared and before he did he no longer seemed to care about the screwing that BFL is doing... it's almost as if they paid him off and/or gave him a pair of cement galoshes.
His last major investigations were about (1) Brock Pierce and (2) Gonzague Gay-Bouchery, and their connecitions, on which he worked  energically up to the eve of his disappearance.   However, given the almost complete lack of interest of the community, he may have just got fed up with that topic.   (I would have given up much earlier.  I hope he will devote his energy to something more rewarding than trying to protect this community from the scammers and incompentent entrepreneurs it seems to love so much.  Tongue)

On his last day at this forum, he posted about Black Arrow, another miner manufacturer apparently delaying its shipments, and referred to AMT, yet another one which seems to have been an old bone of his.

If he was indeed "convinced" to shut up, there is no lack of suspects...

By the looks of it, BFL must be doing something wrong since the forum is flooded with negative posts regarding BFL.
Why do BFL continue to hold their customers in the dark regarding shipping and expected time of delivery?
Understand that people paid quite a lot of money for a product that they haven't received!

If BFL got nothing to hide, tell your customers whats up. If you guys were to play with open cards and have a little respect and understanding for all the frustrated customers that feel like they are being butt fucked due to the lack of information from BFL, maybe the tone would change

Compared to the number of orders shipped, the number of complaints are virtually non-existent.  That's not to say we are not trying to improve our process, but at this point in time the "problems" to orders shipped is less than 1%, which is a pretty good ratio, but yes ideally we'd like to get that to 0%.  In general, people only take to the forums when there's a problem, not when they are happy.  There are some exceptions, but it's very rare.

If you have a problem with your order that you've received, contact us and we'll try to make it right.

Thank you for your response.
I tend to agree with you, that the negative reviews are dominating the forums, because people is more likely to express their concerns when they have had a bad experience, rather then the good one. Is BFL doing enough to clear any of these concerns with their customers taking to the forums? By the looks on this site, I would say you guys can do better in that area.
Whether the numbers are true or not I cant comments on that. But I find it to be a rather important information, regarding BFL's capability to process orders and have them shipped. You should definitely share this kind of information with your customers.

I know you cant answer all threads in here. But every now and then you should keep people updated with useful information regarding shipping and processing orders and so on.
This is a quote from you site:
Quote
22 June 2013 - ASIC Update
I haven't updated in awhile because I thought the shipping was self explanatory, but people seem to be clamoring for an update, so here we are.

You seem a bit reluctant to do update? Please understand that a simple update every now and then is enough to keep people calm and happy. As I have written earlier, you should definitely try to stay more in touch with your customers.

Again, thank you for your response and good luck in the future

I believe someone in Brazil decided to go buckwild on that theme and dropped mid five figures on a custom box designed for bitcoin mining, and basically was earning about thirty cents a day off it.

However, if you believe what the "bitcoin community" is saying, you can mine hundreds of dollars worth of bitcoins a day:

Im hugely skeptical of the math on that page but hey, take it or leave it.

Bet you can't guess who owns bitcoinx.com.

"No USB Cable in orders.

Just wanted to let people know if they happen to end up in the same boat I was in. My singles orders arrived today, but did not have the cable to connect to the USB in any of the singles boxes.

The connectors appear to be the same as the USB charging cable for the PS3 Controllers. You can use ones you have or you can buy them at Walmart/Slackers and probably other places as well. I bought out Walmart's and got some more at slackers to cover all the units and all are running at the advertised hash rate with those cables.

Hopefully I can get BFL to reimburse for the cables if I send them the receipt, regardless 5 dollar cables are worth the amount of Bitcoin production."

BFL: no PSU, no USB cable, poor quality fan , "mistake" express shipping rate, etc...

nothing wrong...

I started this diatribe due to their complete lack of respect for the very people that put them in the position they are now. The final straw was Josh calling BFL's most loyal investors monumental assholes. It doesn't get any worse than that! Anybody, and I FUCKIN' MEAN ANYBODY, that stands up for BFL in spite of just that one event, also no longer deserves respect, for that was completely uncalled for.

All that time and effort and he has yet to produce any evidence of anything nefarious.  Even connecting (via complete fabrications) completely unrelated things together and he's still unable to actually produce any compelling proof for a single thing.  Yeah, good use of ones time there.  Occams razor here, which one is more likely:

1. BFL is so awesome at scamming that they are able to cover all possible tracks that, even when you are not constrained by reality, you can't uncover proof of wrongdoing.
2. BFL isn't actually doing anything wrong.

Which is more likely?

And a Public Service Announcement!
If you have ordered from BFL and have not yet received your product, you are entitled to a refund whenever you request one (per FTC rules).
First ask Butterfly Labs for one, they will probably say no but you might get lucky.
If you ordered via PayPal you can file a complaint with them even if you are outside the 45 day window. One customer has already gotten a refund from PayPal that was outside the 45 days.
If you ordered via BTC or Bank wire, you can fill out a complaint with the FTC and they will advocate for you with BFL to get your refund. You can also contact the office of the Kansas Attorney General and inform them that you have had your money taken with no product delivered for months, just more promises.

There are also several threads on how to get a refund from BFL, here are two:

When is the Jalapeno getting FCC approval?

Maybe two weeks? We are waiting for the test lab to issue the test report.

With the bump in power requirements on the MR and the new screen, we had to make changes, although the new screen is already certified.  We are doing all the devices at once, since they all share the same board.

I have this sneaky feeling there's going to be some changes at BFL after September 15, 2013.
Why the 15th? What did I miss?

And Phin, thanks for actually taking the time to back up what you say rather than "hurr durr BFL are scams! mah orders! mah orders!". Although I don't consider myself a BFL hater (inb4 I'm Josh's sockpuppet) this is some credible "evidence" (if you call it that?).

Kinda of off topic, but at what point does BFL regain their trust? BFL delivers FPGAs. Later claim they are making ASIC.
- "Scammers! I just bought your FGPAs and now you're making new tech!" We'll offer you guys trade-ins.
- "It's just a box of fans!" Here's a quarter.
- "ASIC didn't exist and BFL is a scam" But it is real. Here's our blueprints.
- "But they'll never ship! They are stealing millions of dollars!" They are shipping units and catching up.
- "Monarch isn't real! If you pre-order now, they'll run away with your money!" ....

If they deliver the Monarchs next year, will that finally calm everyone down? Or will it take another Zhou, Pirate, or Tradehill to get everyone whining about something else?

Update! — We have launched a New Money Systems Board!

Update — Trace Mayer, an early bitcoin proponent and Lifeboat Foundation Economics board member, says “The Lifeboat Foundation is a good organization bringing together some of the brightest minds from many disciplines to act as guardians of the human race. But what good is collaboration without an ability, particularly a financial ability, to implement solutions? With this bitcoin endowment fund any donations made today enable the Lifeboat Foundation to be the beneficiary of the massive wealth transfer benefiting holders of bitcoins and practically that means an increased financial ability stored in a censorship-resistant currency to implement solutions to vexing existential threats to humanity.”

Update — Our Brian Cartmell will match the next 500 BTC in donations (as long as they are made by the end of 2013).

Lifeboat Foundation has launched the world’s first bitcoin endowment fund! Donate to bitcoin address 1Lifeboa1zJ7xJabHzVDmnsgqZ11m6LWL5

While the Lifeboat Foundation was founded in the 21st century, until recently it was mainly funded using 20th century money, basically various types of monies backed by governments. Thanks to the encouragement of some of our larger donors we are now working to have the majority of our funding come from 21st century money — money backed not by governments but by algorithms. The 21st century money Lifeboat is currently focused on is bitcoins.

Historically government backed money has done a poor job in holding its .value. For example, the U.S. dollar has lost over 96% of its value since it was first issued. Many promote the idea of trading rocks (gold and silver) instead but this Bronze Age idea has various drawbacks including portability when local governments decide to confiscate it. As a futuristic organization, we should be promoting 21st century money and now we are!

Crypto-currencies have many advantages over old-fashioned government-backed money. For example they enable transparency, enabling Lifeboat to show that our endowment monies are stored in these wallets: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. They also allow people in less developed countries to have access to the rest of the world. For example, PayPal alone blocks access to over 60 countries, and many credit card companies have similar restrictions. Some are blocked for political reasons, some because of higher fraud rates, and some for other financial reasons. Whatever the reason, we don’t think a human being from Haiti, Ethiopia, or Kenya should have diminished access to the world because of payment issues they can’t control. Our goal is to enable people, not block them.

The March 2013 EU–IMF grab of about 50% of large bank accounts in Cyprus that held government-backed money was the key event that caused the Lifeboat Foundation to feel that the time for 21st century money was here. (We launched our endowment fund shortly after the Cyprus crisis began.)

Any bitcoins donated anywhere on the Lifeboat site will be added to our bitcoin endowment fund. Any non-bitcoin donations made on this page will be used to either buy bitcoin mining equipment or bitcoins. Learn what we have spent non-bitcoin donations on so far!

If you donate $25 or more you are eligible for a copy of our paperback book and/or our Kindle edition. If you donate $100 or more you are eligible for a copy of our paperback autographed by the author with the inscription of your choice. (We will simply value bitcoin donations at the current weighted average value.)

Check the current Bitcoin value. Investigate bitcoin mining options. Learn about the Bitcoin Foundation. Read Bitcoin Magazine. Learn about the potential of bitcoins.

We would like to start a trend of nonprofits building endowment funds with bitcoins instead of just spending them all. Nonprofits could be using the deflationary power of bitcoins to build up their resources so they are in a better position to make a difference in the world. Help us launch this trend!

I find it pretty brizard that the guy who oversaw the registration of the trademark for Webspawner.com is on the Advisory Board of Lifeboat.

Damn dude, this is crazy! Good work if this is all true...that part about the BDF is quite disturbing.

I can't wait for all these fucks to be indicted on criminal charges, or if some customer goes ape shit on the BFL facility with everyone in it, I don't think I could blame them.

Sonny Chris Vleisides, who pled guilty to one count of mail fraud in 2010 (PDF) for being involved in an international lottery scam, is an executive at BFL. Jeff Ownby, vice president of marketing and e-commerce at BFL, told Ars that Vleisides is the “lead product developer—he’s the guy who dreams up the projects," though he declined to provide more details beyond that. By Vleisides’ own account on a Bitcoin forum, he’s the president of a hosting company called Webspawner.com—but it's not clear if he has a background in electrical engineering or hardware design.

Quote
BFL didn’t make that target, and as such, it said it donated 1,000 BTC to the Bitcoin Development Fund (BDF). However, the BDF appears to have been created in May 2013 and provides no documentation that it is, in fact, a bona fide charity or nonprofit organization. Its website lists no actual people, street addresses, or phone numbers.

In fact, it turns out that BDF was actually started by Butterfly Labs' own employees—a fact disclosed nowhere on the BDF site. When Ars reached out to the only e-mail address listed on the site, the response that came back was from Jeff Ownby, the BFL vice president.

"We initially set up this site for the purpose of distributing the 1,000 BTC that BFL committed to donate," Ownby told Ars. "We set it up like this because we think there is an opportunity to involve other BTC businesses in helping fund projects and charities in the future.

Hello,

Thank you for your patience during our recent downtime. We had no warning ahead of time, so it was difficult to get information to you in a timely matter. It was unfortunate and frankly, unacceptable. We are commited to providing much better service than that.

As you may have heard, we recently acquired Webspawner from Art who is moving on to other ventures. Good luck, Art.

With the new ownership comes an exciting announcement. On March 27th (launch date as of now) we are moving everyone into a new website and new website builder that will allow you to create a great, modern-looking website.

Here are a few sneak peaks (click the links):

The new logo is here:

You can also see the new logo on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/webspawner

Please like us while you are there so we can keep you up to date on things.

Here are some sample Webspawner templates (themes):

Free accounts will have these features:

Choose from 10 website themes
Unlimited storage
And here is a short list of the features available to you in the new $4.99 per month website builder:

Choose from hundreds of website themes
Upload your logo
Unlimited storage
Add Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest buttons to your site
A free blog
Pull Facebook and Twitter feeds into your blog
Add your own video or choose from Youtube, Hulu, and Google Video
Google maps
Custom contact forms
A new, improved, modern photo gallery
Instant Paypal button
$50 in Google ad words credit
And for businesses, we will have available at higher cost:

Mobile version of site
Facebook page creator
Google Places integration
Listing with Localeze
just to name a few.

For all current enhanced account members, starting on April 1, we will turn off billing and move you to the $9.99 per month website level for free to see if you like it.

If you do, you can stay there. If you prefer, you can move back down to the $4.99 level with more features than you currently have. Everyone is getting 1 MONTH FREE!

Again, thanks for your patience. You're going to love the new site.

Thanks

Jeff Ownby

Complaints at Webspawner.com: http://www.000webhost.com/directory/reviews/webspawner.com

Hello, my name is Sonny Vleisides.  I've been involved in technology and libertarian focused ventures for most of my adult life.  I believe very strongly in freedom, honesty and personal responsibility.

I decided to drop university studies at UMKC back in 1991.  My mother wasn't very happy about it, but with youthful ambition and no sense, I set out to travel the world instead.  I've lived in Russia, Indonesia, Latin America, Europe etc...  Mostly seeking opportunity while trying to learn what I could.  Along the way, libertarian ideals became more interesting than any other and looking back, it's clear that's the attraction that's pulled me through life from one focus to the next.  The internet was an exciting development.  I started webspawner.com in 1995.  It was my focus for many years.  Do a search for 'free webpages' on google.  I'm currently president of that company, not BFL.

Maybe, just maybe, I can make a connection between him and Sonny Vleisides prior to their partnership at BFL. I know I can already do it with BFL's Bitcoin Development Fund and Sonny's Webspawner.com site, but I want to go further back in time.

Jeff`s In Costa Rica
I`m a little late posting this, but I`ve taken a groovy position as Marketing Director of an online gaming company. In order to take the position, I had to relocate to San Jose, Costa Rica. The family will be joining me in a couple of months for a few years of Central American living. So far, so good. It`s beautiful here. I`ll be posting some pictures soon.

I have been extremely fortunate to have gathered a unique cross-section of experience in my career, so far. In fact, I have already experienced more than most people will during their whole lives.

And I'm not even half finished !

During the last 4-5 years, I have been focusing my career on the Internet and Direct Marketing. I am totally taken by the web, and the possibilities it offers as a direct marketing channel.

One of the greatest things about this line of work is I have been able to express myself creatively while giving clients marketing solutions that are measuable and accountable.

It wasn't much after I had written this page that I started negotiating for a position as the Marketing Director for an online casino......in Costa Rica. I took the job and I'm here now.

Here are just a few of the great clients and projects I have been extremely lucky to have worked with:

I actually design websites too.
