I tried four types of paper, from thin glossy to thicker textured.
I like the textured one best, which is no surprise as it looks the closest to the original.

Which do you like best?

The thicker one might presents a problem of shipping, as I wanted to use a cylinder shaped cardboard sleeve, but at that size I need to roll it really tight and it starts deforming.
So far, I haven't found a company that produces a thicker one of the same length, because using longer would significantly higher the shipping cost.

The other option is to send unrolled prints sandwiched between solid cardboard sheets and placed in bubble wrapped envelopes.

What are your experiences with print delivery, would this option be ok? I always thought that the cylinder one is more sturdy for sending over large distances and handling by multiple personnel.

Besides that I'll also need to tweak the hues a little bit to get it closer to the original and make another print run with selected paper.

I intend on numbering them in the bottom left, next to my signature.

And then finally - the auction!

The prints look great, nice colour and clarity!

Regarding shipping, I can give some info regarding my experience with the colouring
book project I did.

I wanted the paper to be really good quality and a heavyweight stock, this meant
the cover had to be thicker also. The result in this made the packaged unit heavier than
I anticipated so the postage price was also more than I anticipated.

There is no point going to the trouble of producing a lovely art piece and then risking it
being damaged in the post.

I also did a poster project and most people opted for a rolled copy. It depends on what
size tube you use to roll the prints, a wide tube obviously will deform the prints least.
are you selling the prints or auctioning the prints. If auctioning how are you handling the 21 print auction. Multiple lot auctions can be tricky unless you go 1 at a time.

Did a bit more print testing.

As I plan to make more of my artworks available as prints I want to see what my options are.

Also waiting for my photographer to make shots of signed prints.

Expect the auction for the limited set of 21 prints of Bitcollector to be up Tuesday or Wednesday!

Cheers.

The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone.
Came out looking great!  I prefer thicker but if it is an issue and also lot more expensive to ship then please go thinner and roll it!

I did a test print run and I'm back with the results.

The intial idea of the "buy a print" and get a raffle spot for the original was opportunity for everyone to get a chance at a great original piece. Obviously their are some who are willing pay a large sum for the painting outright. I just liked the spirit of the initial idea.

Ultimately the artist put a lot of time and money into this project and I support whatever they decide to do.

Super cool. Love the idea of 21 signed and numbered prints. I think the raffle price is very reasonable considering you get a print and a chance for the original, it might even be too reasonable. Regarding reserving spots for interested parties. I personally like this idea for my own selfish reasons. If there are already 15 people interested the other six spots will sell out in 5 minutes. If for some reason you decide not to hold raffle spots for interested parties, maybe you could just realease the time you are going to start the raffle. That way those interested can jump online at that time. Super excited about this project and our artistic representation.

I want a numbered poster please! And if your going to sell the original then make it an auction or outright sale.

No raffles for me. But its your choice!  Goodluck!

I've gotten multiple initiatives from members against having the original raffled with prints. They want a fair shot at the original, instead of a random pick, so I believe a separate auction way to go.

I still think reserved spots for project members is a good idea for those 21 prints. We could also still decide to go for more prints, but 21 is such a symbolic number.
Or I can offer a second, unnumbered print run, but does that still diminish the original print?

I'm back with exciting news!

Everything is prepared for making Bitcollector PRINTS.

The canvas was professionally scanned and I digitally brought it as close to the original as possible.

Here it is (in smaller size so our prints outshine any other attempts  Wink):

The digital copy is super large, so we could make human size copies, however I believe the original canvas size might be best for prints.
In case anyone wants a huge-ass version let's discuss that option as well.

Now we just need to settle on points below and we're set to go (based on already proposed methods and ideas from many of you):

* Print size. Canvas size is 40x30cm 15,7˝x11,8˝ and I propose we make the prints in that same dimension.
* Number of prints. Maybe go for the BTC magical number 21? I've had inquiries so far for at least 10-15, but I wouldn't scatter them too wide, but keep them at valuable collectible level.
* Personally tagging copies. I propose numbering and signing each one personally as the author.
* Sell method. I propose (as others suggested) a raffle.
* Print price. All material (not counting countless hours) and shipping costs on my side will sum up to 10-20€/piece. I was thinking 50€/piece for a raffle entry spot? However, I'm offering...
* Project member discount in the form of free shipping for everybody that has contributed here. I was also thinking there would be a reserved spot for each of you in the first couple of days of the raffle.

These will be my first ever prints, I'm super hyped and want to get everything done perfectly.

Let me know what you think about above points and in a week or two these might already be on their way to you!

Cheers.

This is incredible work, genuinely impressed!

Thank you!

First of all, I want to thank you for the gift. I absolutely love it! Although I couldn't see it in person right away, I'll be sure to share images once I do in a couple of months. I'd also like to support other artists, so you can reserve 1-2 pieces for me as well.

Wow, looks great there, thanks for the photos!

I'm working on prints already, hopefully, they'll be available in a week or so!

Cheers.

I'd certainly like a print, and would be happy to bid on the original! Also +1 to the "upgraded canvas" idea.

I think this piece deserves a frame, though a buyer may have a specific taste so it can make sense to leave that up to the new owner- so yes frame if you have a specific vision, and no if you don't.

Regarding NFT, I would suggest that its only appropriate to put this on the Bitcoin chain, so Ordinals would be an option. I've experimented with that, so could offer pointers if anyone wants to make that happen.

Awesome man!

I'll consider what you suggested about framing and definitely ask you for tips on NFS's if I ever get to it.

Will wait a bit more for additional suggestions and will take care of the scan. Then we'll move forward with the sells!

Job well done bro!  Reminds me of my mancave...with the exception of the times paper!!

I will be down for a print for sure. I am sure there are other who would be down for one as well.

And if you ever auction the original, I would probably bid a satoshi or two  Cheesy

Thanks bro!
I'll take this one to the printers for sure to finally start this.

Very cool piece. Im definitely in for a print. I like the idea of of buy a print and then be entered in raffle for the original. Its a very community inclusive idea that gives everyone a shot at beautiful artwork that they may not have been able to afford. As long as you feel like you have been appropriately compensated i think its a great idea. Its about time this underrepresented corner of Bitcoin gets its due. Thanks for all your hatd work.

Love the encyclopedia and the forum open on the computer. Feel like its me on that canvas

Thank you! I love it that more of you see yourselves in the painting, which was one of my/our main objectives.
I'll try to continue including the community in my art efforts and sell my products fairly and transparently.

And then there's other concepts I'm interesting in exploring with you!
One I was recently thinking about is redoing the 10th anniversary artwork I did

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/10-years-of-constructing-the-future-presented-in-detail-by-1dq-5205089[📦▶️]

What if I made an upgraded canvas (or digital) version of it and make it available as a print?
There were A LOT of inquiries about prints for this one in the past, but I didn't have proper printing opportunities then.
I can imagine someone might take on the challenge of distributing them (especially in the US) for us?

Would take 3 prints here of the 10th anniversary artwork if possible! Cheesy

Awesome job, your work is always fascinating, keep it up! Wink

Original as they are or updated? I'm pretty hyped to work a bit on this one as well.

Hello Everybody!

OUR FIRST COLLECTIVE ARTWORK IS
FINISHED!

I'm super proud to present to you

»Bitcollector«, 2024, Acrylics and Golden Leafs on Canvas, 40x30cm 15,7˝x11,8˝

This painting is our tribute to everything about BTC Collectibles and Collectors and among other familiar details you can find:

Casascius coins
Coldcard wallet
Icarus cards
1Dq original paintings
The Times article
Satoshi statue
Bitcoin ticker
Bitcoin node
Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins
...and a couple of Easter eggs

This is all thanks Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto, the igniter of it all. That's why he is also part of the painting and I believe our member elianite told it best:

I think this idea of Satoshi analyzing date / writing code on one of the monitors makes sense, and adds a dimension to the coin collector being a sort of archeologist, looking at the "physical artefacts" brought about by Satoshi's actions, and thus in a way reconnecting with/recalling the history of 'the creation of bitcoin' by looking at the coins that commemorate it.
As the light shines to reveal the coins, they allow the collector's mind to reveal the past. But in a roundabout way, maybe if Satoshi were peeking over his shoulder from the monitor, at the collector, satoshi would similarly be imagining a future where people are making coins to commemorate him, giving the work a sort of psycho-historical infinity loop. I would consider using the light in this way, firstly between collector and coins, and secondly between satoshi and monitor, creating a deep interplay also with physical and digital.

This artwork is also the first to have a unique CODE, that anchors it in time and space.

The CODE consists of (from top to bottom):
Serial number
First three letters of project collaborators
BTCblock it was finished in with date of execution
Bottom left has an icon of my previous artwork (Pie contest) and on right is this artwork in Icon form.

So this art piece is the first "block" in out own art blockchain!
The more successful we are, and the more collectible artworks we sell, the more valuable this and following pieces will be.

Here are some more photos of details:

And the canvas in two different outdoor settings

All in all I'm super happy with the result and I hope you are too  Grin

Now for the next step:

SELLING OF BITCOLLECTOR AND PRINTS

There are several ways we can do this as was discussed in posts above.

In any case I will start a new thread, presenting the artwork to new guests and potential buyers.
I didn't imagine framing the canvas for auction/selling, but it might be a interesting bit. As it's relatively small, the shipping costs won't be that much higher (For most of the world I expect it to be under 50€/$).
What do you think, should I frame or no?

I also plan on preparing a printable reproduction, probably via a professional scan, as the photos, although great, still aren't best suited for such a job.

For artist's fee, I propose that my work be calculated in hours spent working on the actual drawing and painting. All project management, post making, photographing and other stuff is free as a token of my pleasure of doing this with the community!
Therefore I'll make a calculation of the minimum I'd like to earn for my effort at this point. In case this project gets successful and I earn more, I'll be extra satisfied and it'll help me moving forward doing this!
I'll put my hourly price at a symbolic 10€/hour. I had around 20 hours of work on digital concepts and further 40 hours on the canvas. So in total I'd estimate my work on this artwork so far to be worth a minimum of 600€.
Transparent project, transparent finances!  Cool

As for the actual selling moment, we could either make an auction or a raffle for both the original painting and the prints.
We need to see what the interest is for both so I can create an auction with properly-defined prices.
Maybe as a raffle for a set number of prints (21?) with entrance ticket sum set somewhere around 50€.
Then maybe one participant picked randomly gets also the original artwork? Discount for participants of the project!
That could be fun, what do you think?

Is anyone interested in working on a NFT version? I can provide the reproduction and that could also be part of this project.
I'm not that interested in NFT's in general so I'd prefer if somebody else took care of that.

MOVING FORWARD WITH OUR PROJECT

Of course, first we need to see how well Bitcollector is received.
Then I'd probably be interested in repeating and upgrading the project, either digitally for future prints or a new canvas if there is demand.
We could of course try to go a step further and develop the content.

And then there's other concepts I'm interesting in exploring with you!
One I was recently thinking about is redoing the 10th anniversary artwork I did

This could be very interesting for members of the entire forum.
Which is something I was hoping to address as well – how to get the entire BTCtalk a chance in contributing?
Maybe Theymos and other admins can help out with a news bulletin or I open some other thread some place to invite people here?

But first things first – let's wrap this up by getting it on your wall!

Please let me know what you think on above questions.

Cheers!
