I can’t not share this as it feels too satisying.
From this thread's first post, as updated:

We successfully made it to the finale of Phase 5, which I’m also crossing out soon…
…as I plan on launching the thread for our second project in the beginning of next week.

Before that is the exciting finish of Bitcoaster’s auction, which ends in 27 hours.
Is it just me or is the summer really hot this year?  Grin

Cheers!

There is also at least one thing that needs to be removed from the 5 year old version above, any guesses which one?  Roll Eyes

And do not forget to rename the robot with the big Y on his forehead as well!  Do not want that asshole next to my K robot!

Absolutely.
It was pretty horrifying realization when I found out that (after having had my cards swiped), the culprit was still lurking on my artwork, as if nothing had happened.  Angry

One of my big motivations to redo the artwork is also to repair this.

Re-designing this sounds interesting but of course keeping the key aspects of it
is essential. Then what additions are going to be added, historical events which
happened on the forum?

We could have either historical events or just overall activity.
It'll be a fun brainstorming session figuring out what to include!
Original already shows the Bitcoin Forum as a world in the building and that leaves a lot of space for different kind of ideas.

There is also at least one thing that needs to be removed from the 5 year old version above, any guesses which one?  Roll Eyes

Re-doing it on canvas is definitely the way to go, as regards prints, what quantities
are you thinking?

2 sizes, large format very limited, say 21 again and a smaller quantity with a bigger
print run, 147?

That's a good idea, yes!
We can see what the demand might look like during the brainstorming and promotion of the project.

Dear Bitcoin colleagues, co-creators, collectors, hodlers and friends.

It’s time to move forward and set a new goal.

Bitcollector
, the project that began in 2019 and took many months of work is still hot.
As I type this it is being succesfully auctioned (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/auction-acrylic-and-gold-original-painting-on-canvas-bitcollector-5500725)
and so were the 21 limited run prints (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/auction-bitcollector-artwork-prints-limited-run-of-21-5498859).

As I proposed before, I see a logical next step in reimagining the “10 Years of constructing the future artwork”
I digitally painted 5 years ago for the BTCtalk art competition.

Bitcoin forum and everything that happens and had happened here has not nearly gotten enough credit, why not make a monument for it right here?
My idea is to take my digital artwork and we together upgrade it to make the best visualisation of this place as possible.
Here’s the OG artwork:

10 Years of Constructing the Future, 2019, Photoshop, max res 3000x4000pix

It would probably all begin with a new brainstorming thread and for the finished artwork, I imagine it as a medium sized canvas (60x80cm, 22,6″x31,4″).
As the digital version already ignited questions about prints, I think it’s logical to do them again,
only possibly in two sizes and in higher number.

I think this project also needs promotion on a grander scale because this year is the 15th Anniversary of Bitcoin forum!
I can easily imagine this artwork bringing people together and a lot of them exploring collectibles for the first time!
A newsline exposure would also be great, if we could convince admins to do it for us.
Besides that, I’d promote everywhere and invite everybody to join in and contribute, especially from other parts of this forum.

But first of all, I’m interested in your opinions.
It’s a bold step forward and I’m again counting on your support in the form of comments, ideas, experiences, tips and advice.

I loved our collaboration on the first project and I’m super hopeful we’ll repeat what was best and add fresh and exciting things!

Cheers!

One thing I remembered and thought I needed to share with everyone following the production of Bitcollector's prints.

When I made the final test print for the 21 print run, the chosen print had the same properties as all other following.

I tagged it 0/21 as in prototype for the series and will keep it my personal archive.

Here it is (on maybe the only photo) with the rest of them.

Be back soon,

Cheers!

Auction recap:

All 21 copies were sold, which is amazing!

Thanks again to everybody that participated in this and the original project brainstorming thread.

Right now I need to take care of communicating and sending these parcels (quite a task!) and then I need to start the auction for the OG Bitcollector canvas!

After that... I have a couple of ideas. I'm really excited about working on the Bitcoin forum 10th anniversary artwork canvas version.

2024 so far has really been a great year for Bitcoin and it looks fun ahead!  Grin

Just a suggestion to talk with MJ or mopar about best way to handle a 21 print auction. Ive seen plenty go sideways. If 30 people bid 5 times each thats 150 posts. Nearly impossible to keep track of. You may have to auction 5 at a time or just sell at the price you want.

Yeah, it usually gets a bit crazy at the end when bids start coming in for each lot every few seconds.
It is doable, but sorting the bids and declaring winners does take some time.
Best bet is for interested bidders to focus on a certain lot(s) as a lot of the confusion sets in when people start bidding on a certain lot, get outbid and then switch to a different lot with a lower price.

I'll think about this a bit more, but I have to say it makes me kinda excited to imagine that kind of chaos and sorting it out.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

The prints look great, nice colour and clarity!

Regarding shipping, I can give some info regarding my experience with the colouring
book project I did.

I wanted the paper to be really good quality and a heavyweight stock, this meant
the cover had to be thicker also. The result in this made the packaged unit heavier than
I anticipated so the postage price was also more than I anticipated.

There is no point going to the trouble of producing a lovely art piece and then risking it
being damaged in the post.

I also did a poster project and most people opted for a rolled copy. It depends on what
size tube you use to roll the prints, a wide tube obviously will deform the prints least.

I think I prefer a bit more expensive shipping, but the best paper and packaging.
But most of all I need to start somewhere and learn from there!  Grin

are you selling the prints or auctioning the prints. If auctioning how are you handling the 21 print auction. Multiple lot auctions can be tricky unless you go 1 at a time.

I believe I saw auctions with numbered lots people can bid on. I'll just make 21 ones and anyone participating can go: user lot nr.  bid price
I need to be vigilant and keep score updating bids of course, but there shouldn't be any confusion.

I tried four types of paper, from thin glossy to thicker textured.
I like the textured one best, which is no surprise as it looks the closest to the original.

Which do you like best?

The thicker one might presents a problem of shipping, as I wanted to use a cylinder shaped cardboard sleeve, but at that size I need to roll it really tight and it starts deforming.
So far, I haven't found a company that produces a thicker one of the same length, because using longer would significantly higher the shipping cost.

The other option is to send unrolled prints sandwiched between solid cardboard sheets and placed in bubble wrapped envelopes.

What are your experiences with print delivery, would this option be ok? I always thought that the cylinder one is more sturdy for sending over large distances and handling by multiple personnel.

Besides that I'll also need to tweak the hues a little bit to get it closer to the original and make another print run with selected paper.

I intend on numbering them in the bottom left, next to my signature.

And then finally - the auction!

As I plan to make more of my artworks available as prints I want to see what my options are.

The intial idea of the "buy a print" and get a raffle spot for the original was opportunity for everyone to get a chance at a great original piece. Obviously their are some who are willing pay a large sum for the painting outright. I just liked the spirit of the initial idea.

Ultimately the artist put a lot of time and money into this project and I support whatever they decide to do.

Super cool. Love the idea of 21 signed and numbered prints. I think the raffle price is very reasonable considering you get a print and a chance for the original, it might even be too reasonable. Regarding reserving spots for interested parties. I personally like this idea for my own selfish reasons. If there are already 15 people interested the other six spots will sell out in 5 minutes. If for some reason you decide not to hold raffle spots for interested parties, maybe you could just realease the time you are going to start the raffle. That way those interested can jump online at that time. Super excited about this project and our artistic representation.

I want a numbered poster please! And if your going to sell the original then make it an auction or outright sale.

No raffles for me. But its your choice!  Goodluck!

I've gotten multiple initiatives from members against having the original raffled with prints. They want a fair shot at the original, instead of a random pick, so I believe a separate auction way to go.

I still think reserved spots for project members is a good idea for those 21 prints. We could also still decide to go for more prints, but 21 is such a symbolic number.
Or I can offer a second, unnumbered print run, but does that still diminish the original print?

I'm back with exciting news!

Everything is prepared for making Bitcollector PRINTS.

The canvas was professionally scanned and I digitally brought it as close to the original as possible.

Here it is (in smaller size so our prints outshine any other attempts  Wink):

The digital copy is super large, so we could make human size copies, however I believe the original canvas size might be best for prints.
In case anyone wants a huge-ass version let's discuss that option as well.

Now we just need to settle on points below and we're set to go (based on already proposed methods and ideas from many of you):

* Print size. Canvas size is 40x30cm 15,7˝x11,8˝ and I propose we make the prints in that same dimension.
* Number of prints. Maybe go for the BTC magical number 21? I've had inquiries so far for at least 10-15, but I wouldn't scatter them too wide, but keep them at valuable collectible level.
* Personally tagging copies. I propose numbering and signing each one personally as the author.
* Sell method. I propose (as others suggested) a raffle.
* Print price. All material (not counting countless hours) and shipping costs on my side will sum up to 10-20€/piece. I was thinking 50€/piece for a raffle entry spot? However, I'm offering...
* Project member discount in the form of free shipping for everybody that has contributed here. I was also thinking there would be a reserved spot for each of you in the first couple of days of the raffle.

These will be my first ever prints, I'm super hyped and want to get everything done perfectly.

Let me know what you think about above points and in a week or two these might already be on their way to you!

Cheers.

I'd certainly like a print, and would be happy to bid on the original! Also +1 to the "upgraded canvas" idea.

I think this piece deserves a frame, though a buyer may have a specific taste so it can make sense to leave that up to the new owner- so yes frame if you have a specific vision, and no if you don't.

Regarding NFT, I would suggest that its only appropriate to put this on the Bitcoin chain, so Ordinals would be an option. I've experimented with that, so could offer pointers if anyone wants to make that happen.

Awesome man!

I'll consider what you suggested about framing and definitely ask you for tips on NFS's if I ever get to it.

Will wait a bit more for additional suggestions and will take care of the scan. Then we'll move forward with the sells!

Very cool piece. Im definitely in for a print. I like the idea of of buy a print and then be entered in raffle for the original. Its a very community inclusive idea that gives everyone a shot at beautiful artwork that they may not have been able to afford. And then there's other concepts I'm interesting in exploring with you!
One I was recently thinking about is redoing the 10th anniversary artwork I did

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/10-years-of-constructing-the-future-presented-in-detail-by-1dq-5205089[📦▶️]

What if I made an upgraded canvas (or digital) version of it and make it available as a print?
There were A LOT of inquiries about prints for this one in the past, but I didn't have proper printing opportunities then.
I can imagine someone might take on the challenge of distributing them (especially in the US) for us?

Would take 3 prints here of the 10th anniversary artwork if possible! Cheesy

Hello Everybody!

OUR FIRST COLLECTIVE ARTWORK IS
FINISHED!

I'm super proud to present to you

»Bitcollector«, 2024, Acrylics and Golden Leafs on Canvas, 40x30cm 15,7˝x11,8˝

This painting is our tribute to everything about BTC Collectibles and Collectors and among other familiar details you can find:

Casascius coins
Coldcard wallet
Icarus cards
1Dq original paintings
The Times article
Satoshi statue
Bitcoin ticker
Bitcoin node
Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins
...and a couple of Easter eggs

This is all thanks Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto, the igniter of it all. That's why he is also part of the painting and I believe our member elianite told it best:

I think this idea of Satoshi analyzing date / writing code on one of the monitors makes sense, and adds a dimension to the coin collector being a sort of archeologist, looking at the "physical artefacts" brought about by Satoshi's actions, and thus in a way reconnecting with/recalling the history of 'the creation of bitcoin' by looking at the coins that commemorate it.
As the light shines to reveal the coins, they allow the collector's mind to reveal the past. But in a roundabout way, maybe if Satoshi were peeking over his shoulder from the monitor, at the collector, satoshi would similarly be imagining a future where people are making coins to commemorate him, giving the work a sort of psycho-historical infinity loop. I would consider using the light in this way, firstly between collector and coins, and secondly between satoshi and monitor, creating a deep interplay also with physical and digital.

This artwork is also the first to have a unique CODE, that anchors it in time and space.

The CODE consists of (from top to bottom):
Serial number
First three letters of project collaborators
BTCblock it was finished in with date of execution
Bottom left has an icon of my previous artwork (Pie contest) and on right is this artwork in Icon form.

So this art piece is the first "block" in out own art blockchain!
The more successful we are, and the more collectible artworks we sell, the more valuable this and following pieces will be.

Here are some more photos of details:

And the canvas in two different outdoor settings

All in all I'm super happy with the result and I hope you are too  Grin

Now for the next step:

SELLING OF BITCOLLECTOR AND PRINTS

There are several ways we can do this as was discussed in posts above.

In any case I will start a new thread, presenting the artwork to new guests and potential buyers.
I didn't imagine framing the canvas for auction/selling, but it might be a interesting bit. As it's relatively small, the shipping costs won't be that much higher (For most of the world I expect it to be under 50€/$).
What do you think, should I frame or no?

I also plan on preparing a printable reproduction, probably via a professional scan, as the photos, although great, still aren't best suited for such a job.

For artist's fee, I propose that my work be calculated in hours spent working on the actual drawing and painting. All project management, post making, photographing and other stuff is free as a token of my pleasure of doing this with the community!
Therefore I'll make a calculation of the minimum I'd like to earn for my effort at this point. In case this project gets successful and I earn more, I'll be extra satisfied and it'll help me moving forward doing this!
I'll put my hourly price at a symbolic 10€/hour. I had around 20 hours of work on digital concepts and further 40 hours on the canvas. So in total I'd estimate my work on this artwork so far to be worth a minimum of 600€.
Transparent project, transparent finances!  Cool

As for the actual selling moment, we could either make an auction or a raffle for both the original painting and the prints.
We need to see what the interest is for both so I can create an auction with properly-defined prices.
Maybe as a raffle for a set number of prints (21?) with entrance ticket sum set somewhere around 50€.
Then maybe one participant picked randomly gets also the original artwork? Discount for participants of the project!
That could be fun, what do you think?

Is anyone interested in working on a NFT version? I can provide the reproduction and that could also be part of this project.
I'm not that interested in NFT's in general so I'd prefer if somebody else took care of that.

MOVING FORWARD WITH OUR PROJECT

Of course, first we need to see how well Bitcollector is received.
Then I'd probably be interested in repeating and upgrading the project, either digitally for future prints or a new canvas if there is demand.
We could of course try to go a step further and develop the content.

And then there's other concepts I'm interesting in exploring with you!
One I was recently thinking about is redoing the 10th anniversary artwork I did

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/10-years-of-constructing-the-future-presented-in-detail-by-1dq-5205089

What if I made an upgraded canvas (or digital) version of it and make it available as a print?
There were A LOT of inquiries about prints for this one in the past, but I didn't have proper printing opportunities then.
I can imagine someone might take on the challenge of distributing them (especially in the US) for us?

This could be very interesting for members of the entire forum.
Which is something I was hoping to address as well – how to get the entire BTCtalk a chance in contributing?
Maybe Theymos and other admins can help out with a news bulletin or I open some other thread some place to invite people here?

But first things first – let's wrap this up by getting it on your wall!

Please let me know what you think on above questions.

Cheers!

Thanks guys!

Cygan, the Icarus cards were one of the last things I worked on today.

Krog, for code I meant this signature that will anchor the artwork in a unique system, similar to blockchain as explained here:

Weekly update #2

More importantly, I worked on "coding" the Signature of the artwork.

I used a square as base, as its most practical in being positioned in most circumstances.

This is how the code is constructed from top to bottom in this demo:

BTC-TLK 001/1 (Bitcoin Talk, project 001 (this will be the first official artwork in this concept-series) and /1 meaning it is the single one or first of the series. Maybe a 1/1 (or 3/3, 19/19) would be clearer.)

1Dq Eld kro... (First three characters of members of the current artwork project. Everyone from Bitcollectors is listed in this one, in the future maybe merit or some other type of work proof would be needed)

Two thumbnail images in bottom left (Previous two artworks in the concept. For first one, I used the Pie artwork and BTCtalk's 10th Anniversary artwork)

Date of project/s beginning and end. (For this one it's pretty epic in its span of 4 and a half years)

Thumbnail version of current artwork in bottom right (used for reference in the next artwork)

I inserted the code in the center of our concept sketch, as I feel if this is the beginning of something grandous, let's make it obvious.

I'm especially interested in how you think the coding could be upgraded.

Awesome work there bro!  Its almost a replica of my Bitcoin man cave!!!

wow - the artwork gets better and more colorful with every further step/stage
i would perhaps draw the block time in the ticker at which your artwork is completely finished

and finally i can recognize the Icarus cards Grin

STAGE 7

Dear Art Project Collaborators, we're nearly there.

I believe I painted in everything except three details awaiting the final session:

* BTC ticker current value
* project code on bottom left (still open for optimization suggestions)
* artist's signature.

No explaining novels from me today, just a couple of fun shots Grin

Here's Satoshi peeking

..and a photo from our Bitcollector's angle

And two closeups of the newly gilded centerpiece coin.

Last call for any suggestions. I any case, I'll have this finished and properly photographed in a couple of days.

Have a great day everyone!

Just hopping back into this thread and WOW what a transformation from first post to
this!

Quote
Ob the Bitcoin ticker on top, which number should be showing? Maybe the all time high, or the actual number as I finish the piece?

I think the number you finish this on is the most fitting!

Quote
Maybe the most fun is which part of our forum the monitor would show?

I think it would be interesting to see the first page of this thread or a version of it.

Quote
I was thinking of again using real gold to paint a couple of details, like the coin in Bitcollector's hand, what do you think?

Absolutely, this essentially is the focal point of the piece.

Quote
And if the shirt can become a statement as well, and ideas?

maybe just the BTC symbol as a pattern?

Yes gold leaf paint would be the way to go just as you did with my painting!

And if the shirt can become a statement as well, and ideas?

Hmm….A bitcoin shirt would be good as well…the question is what type?

Thanks for the comments!

Almost a consensus here, perfect.

I'd rather go with general "Collectibles" on the monitor, than only this thread, because that's Bitcollector's lair.  Cool

And for the shirt I'll go for a BTC motif and see where my brush spontaneously takes me!

I'll have a two day break now and that's more space for your input.

Later!

STAGE 6

About half of the finishing part is done.

I added a lot more detail, it was especially fun painting in my own artworks like the Bitcoin Miner on top right!

Besides rendering work, there's still a couple of question open:

And here's one shot of my brush doing the heavy lifting  Grin

I expect to have this canvas finished in a week or two, so your comments here will be much appreciated.

Then the fun part of making this item a collectible will begin. We still need to settle on how and when.

But right now, let's finish this canvas, the first of its kind!

STAGE 5

This is probably the last step before I go and finalize the painting.
So far, I was deliberately holding back my brush a bit, so anything could potentially still be discussed and changed.

At this point, I can say I'm pretty happy with how it's developing and can't wait to go into it's final step!

I also added tags to most objects that we want identifiable in the artwork (in the version below).

So for probably the last time on this piece - let me know what you think or if I'd forgotten something.

Any comment, critique and idea can still be applicable!

Cheers!

* On the table, Casascius coins and which other collectibles? I'd love to put in project Icarus and I'll ask Cygan which set he'd like to have presented on the painting.

you don't need to write to me about it Wink
i have read it, we are proud of it and we would be very happy to see our project on your painting/artwork Smiley

Alright, will paint it in asap and it will be part of my next update!

Meanwhile there's still these open areas to brainstorm:

* First off, I think the screen on the back could sport a huge BTC sign, as the painting is still defined by our world and probably should be discernable as such on first glance.

* The screens have a lot of undefined space. I can definitely go for BTC charts, but would love some spicy suggestions, especially for what Satoshi is working on.

* Likewise, the BTCtalk screen is open for discussion - what board or thread would be open? If nothing else I could paint in this thread, so we're self referential

* On the table, Casascius coins and which other collectibles? I'd love to put in project Icarus and I'll ask Cygan which set he'd like to have presented on the painting.

* The Bitcollector is a bit too old now, so I'd make him a bit younger. Any ideas for clothes?

Later.

Love the way this is coming around...reminds me of my man cave!

How about placing a bitcoin node on the table...I have that....the domed figurine just like what you placed...a bitcoin ticker......and would recommend placing the collectables section open...not sure if it should be one thread...but if it is...I wouldnt know what would be the best one!

Also place the latest coldcard Q wallet on the table as well....just like what I added recently  Wink

Good specific suggestions, just the way I like them, thank you sir!

Time for a new update!

I got our painting to a new stage:

STAGE 4

I painted in most of discussed and suggested objects.
Satoshi and Bitcollector are further defined.
There are knifes, holograms, cards, all kinds of papers, coins, tools and stuff on the table.
I changed the back of the room with minting coins to a image on a big screen.
Overall the entire composition is now better defined tonally and color-wise.

I also defined some fun open areas for us to explore together as I've marked below.

+ any other ideas!

Alright, as before I'll try to work out as many things I can myself and continue work.

But It'll be super helpful getting your input in these final stages of our first collective artwork.

Cheers!

Today I'm back with two exciting news.

First is, I joined this forum exactly 6 years ago!

I made my introductionary thread in Collectibles soon after and have been active here ever since.
In these 6 years I created art for you, I came to know a lot of you personally and always felt very welcome and at home.
And that's why I'm celebrating this day with my second news!

Below are first stages of our first Bitcointalk Collectibles Artwork Project artwork, »Bitcollector«, Acrylics on Canvas, 40x30cm 15,7˝x11,8˝.
As per usual, it's a bit of a different story painting on canvas, from digital artwork. So from first sessions on, things changed slightly, but so far nothing radical.

PHASE 1

Started with goldenish yellow. It'll serve as remainder and basis for everything glittering on the table.
And sets the tone for this artwork, project and Bitcoin in general – gold.
Basic composition is set in line.

PHASE 2

Shapes make their intro as well as the blueish tones all around engulfing the golden yellow.
Here I made the first change, tilting the table a bit, so it's more dynamic and we also got more space that way.
The wall in the back is also at a steeper angle now so there's more room in the back.
On the right paintings, on left monitors.

PHASE 3

I start painting in basic details, so I get the feel of how objects live in the composition.
More importantly, Satoshi makes his visit, busy facing the monitor but glancing toward the seated Bitcollector.
Also, on the bottom left is a empty square (next to the glass satoshi statue) that'll be filled with our Signature Code.
Everything is done a step further and this is how far we are at the moment.

I intend on steadily continuing work by myself but eagerly awaiting your input – comments, critique suggestions of all sorts.
Just remember, this the initial piece and more will follow.

Cheers!

I think this is an amazing project. I see so much bitcoin art that represents every facet of BTC other than physical. Which i consider to be one if not thee most important under appreciated Avenue of BTC. I think that eventually physical bitcoin will capture the world by storm and you will be the artist who represented it first. When im not working my fiat job i spent my extra time focused on physical bitcoin. Its nice to see my hobby represented.I would definitely be interested in an original piece but based on the quality I assume im in the market for a limited edition print. Thank you for your time and effort

I see what you mean SN347!

I agree with your conclusion that the back of the "room" is now condensed to less space than before. I kinda intended for that to happen to a degree, but it must have been too much.

I think I'll go for some middle way on the canvas. Thanks for your comment.

As for Satoshi, I didn't want him doing anything particular there, just being mostly.

Maybe he should be analyzing data from one of the monitors? I mean, what would HE be doing really haha.

This double light - past and future - is a great idea and just in time as I'm starting this canvas.
I'll incorporate it by giving Satoshi a job on the monitor and maybe peeking on Bitcollector's work.

I love it how this is developing and can't wait to paint this!

Cheers!

Thoughts take shape and form  Cool

IMO is the front section as good as finished.. the other half of the room now looks much smaller or compressed. . I don't know which is better

My personal opinion is: the first version with the guy in the background and the room looks bigger..

a direct comparison of details

If you manage to place the details on the left and right, the room would appear much larger and the production in the background would become visible..

Something that should definitely be changed is the depiction of Satoshi, who stands in the picture like a tree trunk... hmmm

The rest looks realy good and making a series only makes this project more interesting.. great to see you create something that many people have contributed

Talking about obvious, the position of the main BTC symbol still eludes me! There are two symbol right now - top right on the Bitcoin Miner painting, and the on on Satoshi character, but I'm certain it should be more prominent, right?

There. I'm probably starting painting on the canvas in the following days, but let's keep this debate going.

I'm especially interested in how you think the coding could be upgraded.

There is also the possibility to develop it artwork by artwork, but a good beginning feels important!

I'm truly amazed by how much your art is evolving, it's fantastic to witness. Your approach of creating a connection with each artwork is simply brilliant, and it resonates with me on a personal level. In fact, I'm working on something similar myself, like my earth elements series. Only those who own all four elements will receive the fifth element, creating a meaningful connection between the pieces. It's like the beginning of a journey, once you have all four, a new chapter unfolds.

I'm a big fan of your artistry, keep sharing and creating, my friend. You're truly remarkable!  Wink

Stylistically, I think this latest version has a bit too much going on in terms of the contrast of the accuracy of the newspaper on the wall with the more watercolor-like collector. As such I think the Pie picture is better put together. I would try to remove the extra detail, instead keeping it vague as a 'mere suggestion' of the subject. Also, I would of course love to see a "coin book" in there, which I'm guessing is on the bottom left here!

Hey, thanks for your comment. It reminded me to emphasize that this is still a sketch and the detail and render level might be a bit scattered.

The final piece (on canvas) will have a uniform style much like the mentioned Pie artwork, so no worries!  Cool

Alright, update time.

A few things happened and I got ideas for a couple of changes.

First off, I participated in the Bitcoin Pie Baking contest (which I loved the idea of), not with a pie, but with a digital artwork.

Here's the thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-pie-baking-contest-2nd-edition-5485091

And here's the artwork:

I talked with the author of the contest RickDeckard and he commissioned a canvas to be made for the winner. So that's one thing I'm also working on at the moment.

***

I continued work on our concept and added more details and reworked the composition yet again. These are the new changes:

* The front now takes up a bit more space and the minting in the back has shrunk.
I felt the industrial-like process is interesting, but maybe not that big part of what we are interested in.

* There is a mysterious figure standing in between back and front (mr.S.N. of course), kinda checking out what's going on, maybe helping out like handing you a bag of coins… haha

* Behind the monitor on the left is a copy of the new Bitcoin Pie contest artwork, which is part of an idea I had that I'll write more about below.

* Behind our Bitcollector is the Times front page, another screen showing BTC value and Bitcoin miner painting on the far top right.

* Collector in the front has some new details as well, holograms and stuff and the Physical coin encyclopedia book in the bottom left.

I feel like this is enough material for starters. Like I mentioned earlier, I have a new idea that I'd like to share that feels pretty exciting.

What if I, with your help, started an ongoing concept of artworks connected between themselves, similar to events in the Blockchain?

Let me explain with an example.

I produce a canvas from the sketch above. I add two types of referential markers in it. First are hints in the form of previous artworks (like in above case The Bitcoin Miner and The Bitcoin Pie Baking Contest). The second is (maybe) a code made from timestamp and participants and something else that would make it trackable? Like the "head" of each block in the Blockchain.

Then the next artwork would include the previous artwork in the form of a hint (maybe its thumbnail) + its code would somehow be added. These codes would preferably be visual somehow, but could also be done with symbols or letters and numbers, depends what we come up with. Now I'm pretty sure some of you are, or know some other, proper nerds that have the best ideas for this!  Cool

Another thing I'd add is participants of this concept group/project!
This can't be done without all of us collaborating and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for aour mutual help and benefit in the past! So I'd want to integrate that by adding those members, most active or supportive in any way in the artworks. How exactly is up for debate, maybe including avatars (that could be transformed into symbols for easier reference-control later).

Then the artwork/s would be raffled, sold, somehow distributed to the right new owner/s. The Satoshis are distributed among the workforce that in the beginning might be mostly me, but hopefully some of you will integrate and help with some systems, maybe also printmaking, NFT's handling, who knows…) How exactly we'll do all that is again still debatable, but I'm certain this shouldn't be a problem to hack around here!

I have a feeling this could go very far and wide and get very exciting.

So, to wrap this up, I propose I begin work on a prototype canvas of Bitcollectors in the next couple of weeks. As I work on it and update you, we'll have enough time to figure out answers to above questions.

I'm super curious what you'll think about my propositions so please comment and be very direct if you're not ok with something. I want this to be a communal thing, to grow and connect and become some sort of an (Block)Artchain haha.

Cheers!

I completely understand the constant quest for improvement! Your dedication to refining things is what makes your work exceptional.

Regarding the question for collectors, I believe a bit of mystery adds to the allure. A balance where some elements are open for public gaze while keeping certain aspects under wraps could create an intriguing dynamic. It's like offering a sneak peek into the artistic process while maintaining an air of exclusivity.

And hey, maybe you don't need a complete overhaul. You could lead or create a way for the crowd's eyes to connect everything together. Watching how he is creating collectibles could look really cool, directing everything toward the main thing.

Excited to see the new version when it's ready. Take your time to work things out!

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think I'll go with krogothmanhattan's argument about keeping this private for now.

But it's a good idea for some completely different artwork, maybe about people having an eye on Bitcoin from beginning and being very patronizing about it and later feeling sorry not to have taken it seriously.

Maybe as part of some other narrative.

I see you added the figurine!!  Wink  Why not add your bitcoin miner painting in the background?? That would really depict Bitcoin and the miners...artwork all in one!

Working on it!  Grin

Personally, I like a lot this work and it describes coin in a professional way. Most of user here know the book/author...That's why I made this suggestion.

Cool, will add this book!

I think everything that is marked green fits very well

Another idea that might fit quite well... maybe you can draw a small window with a crowd of people staring in, because all eyes on BTCitcoin

Something like that ?

or

You could also just draw faces or just eyes staring through the window ? - everyone is waiting for the next work of art to be finished

and last but not least just my 2 cents - the coin/quantity in circulation is very important for collectors because it increases the value - everyone's wants but very few people can

I'm glad you think so many things fit already! If only I was that satisfied haha, I keep reworking things.

As for people looking in, I think that's one question for collectors:

Would you prefer having people gazing in, waiting and wanting and all that, or would you prefer to keep things secret?

Expect a new version to come in soon, I just need to work something out first...

Cheers!

I would rather people not looking in...better in the dark mysterious and secret...thats my two Satoshi on that subject.

Just like Satoshi is a mystery....so I would imagine I wanna be as a coin maker away from the public and the rest except for the very few in our circle when we get to meet.

In other news I added a couple of suggestions and here's the latest work in progress snap:

Adding more interesting stuff made me think that the main focus of the artwork - the collector/inspector/developer person, the desk and various treasured artifacts need more space!

I might need to condense the background activity a bit and add more space to the front.

That way, there will also be more room for other collectibles and artworks. This is how I imagine I could rework the composition further:

So, I'll continue developing this as your ideas pour in.

Lost bitcoin "vortex/black hole" it's pretty cool as idea Roll Eyes

Alright, now we're talking. A raffle or sponsorship indeed. Any idea how to do that and where?
You can choose how many people can join a raffle / rules. Or you can sponsor some forum initiative with some free print.

I'm pretty new in the business of marketing such projects and this specific one is a totally new experience!
Those specific details are all good ideas. The screen with this forum is already in the front on the left.
Coin encyclopedia I need to look up and I'm definitely puitting one of my paintings on a wall somewhere. Probably one of the coasters or maybe the Antonopoulos one.

regarding your paint I will suggest to add more "details" likewise a copy of TIMES somewhere, a laptop with a page forum/blockchain/btc value, some of your previous work on the background, a copy of coin encyclopedia, some btc poster on wall etc etc... of course not of all... mine are just suggestions Wink

I agree on not over extending too far. The painting probably needs to convey the atmosphere most, and those very familiar signs, like the BTC!

Adding Satoshi somewhere sounds fun, let's do that!

If others want/agree, the lost BTCitcoins can be depicted (somewhere in the corner?) as a black hole (from which lost BTCitcoins may shine an orange light) in the universe... maybe something like this

or

if that doesn't fit, please ignore it  Cheesy

I actually love this idea, but I'd almost rather use it another piece, devoted just to BTC in some sort of market/value context.

Here, there's already a lot going on that needs to be worked out.

I'm working on the next step of this sketch, but it might take another day or two, so please continue bringing in sweet ideas everyone!

What would I have on my table as I am assembling my items?  Holograms...water proof paper...coins...or stamps...a good light....airgap computer....BTC tickers....my Bitcoin node....and on the wall is my artwork...your painting...bitbills....CryptoGraffitti art....and my rare magazines.

Great, I love how specific this all is and I'll try to use some of that material in at least one version of the artwork/s. Maybe your own version Krog?  Grin

Before I add my two cents, I first have to praise the artist 1Dq - your project is really unbeatable and I will contribute my thoughts and ideas

JM2C

They always say: To make things happen, focus on the future, not the past - yes that's right, but the past plays an important role, especially in our case/journey with BTCitcoin

By this I mean all lost coins...

...  either through own mistakes or through mistakes of others, e.g. exchange hacks, lost private keys or forgotten wallet passwords

I also think Satoshi Nakamoto must/should be mentioned somewhere or preferably visually represented! - maybe in form of a shadow, because even if he is no longer present, he is always there  Smiley

Otherwise, many things have already been mentioned

The title Bitcollectors fits like a glove

I'd like if we integrate the vizualization of blockchain with BTCitcoin value, timestamps and other useful informations but we should not to overburden the painting

I'm very glad you agree this was a good idea.

What do you see as your primal collectibles-connected work nowadays, Krog? Also interested in hearing from others - what part of making, collecting, supporting BTC collectible items is vital for you today?

Good question!  I used to make coins...Nfts....Smart contracts collectables, stamps and certificates so to speak...now I just dabble in collecting items here and there and mostly if I create anything its strictly for my collection. And of course I hover around in here to see what other delightful collectable comes around from all the other makers such as yourself!

What is vital?  Hmmm...artwork....new coin designs and any other item that can be loaded with a physical bitcoin as well.  Wink

The collection on the table really need to shine! Can you point me to images of referential collectibles containers, boxes, albums... so I can be more specific painting them in?

Physical bitcoin will be the centerpiece. We just need to pick one or make a new design of our own!

Imagine making a prophecy like that in a artwork, design of a brand new collectible, first seen in my painting/s and then manufactured for real. That would be next level.

And I'll do my best to live up to the title THE FORUMS ARTIST!

Little busy atm but will read on shortly…

But looks like amazing work you put in on it.

It was a fine and fun amount of work and will be a lot more before this finishes.
I'm super motivated to do this (and other similar projects in the future)

Nice one 1, the updated artwork is definitely 1dq and a very appealing visualisation from
the phase 1 concept. Bitcollectors is a good title 👍

A few things about the artwork presented IMO are:
1. I think it could benefit from some more contrast especially some darker areas
2. Obviously a BTC symbol somewhere
3. Gold accents where the main figure is working

Again my suggestions are only minute additions to a great bit of work already done.

Alright let's see:

1.   Yes, I was thinking the concept as it stands might be a bit busy and could benefit from having some areas go either darker or more abstract or both.
2.   YES. That was my first thought revisiting this after I slept on it that I forgot to include the BTC symbol. That and maybe a bitcoin-related painting, preferably one of my pieces haha
3.   Also yes. That was one thing the previous sketch got right and it'll need to return. I think there's a lot of opportunity on the table for goldness, like coins, cards, albums, collectible stands and the tabletop itself.

Also...

Any suggestions on where and how to invite people from other parts of the forum/marketplace? Is making a thread inviting them here the right way?

What specific collectible making /inspecting gadgets to include?

How to make this feel 2024.

Any completely new ideas, now can still be implemented!

Meanwhile I'll try to upgrade the concept sketch a bit further on my own.

Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts on just about anything.

Cheers!

Welcome!

In case this is the first time you've heard of this project here's a TLDR;

_______________________________________________________________________________

Hello, I'm 1Dq, a crypto artist that made these: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-of-original-artworks-by-1dq-5216743

In 2019, I started a thread titled BECOME PART OF AN EXCLUSIVE BITCOINTALK ART PROJECT in which I invited people to join me in conceptualizing an artwork, that was 100% focused on this board (Collectibles part of Bitcoin forum).

After some brainstorming and sketches we came to a couple of solid ideas for artworks.
I would paint Bitcoin collectibles from its conceptualization to final product.

Here's the original brainstorming thread.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/become-part-of-an-exclusive-bitcointalk-art-project-5168867

And this was where we got:

We debated them a bit further, but then just before setting everything in motion we run out of steam, I left the project for other work.

Now I'm back, motivated and ready to paint some Bitcoin Collectibles in the making!

_______________________________________________________________________________

This is where we are now:

•   PHASE 1 Brainstorming different ideas
•   PHASE 2 I visualize our concept through one or more digital sketches. We evaluate these together until we come to a consensus for how we'd like the finished arwork/s to appear. We determine in what way my work and the effort of all included will be rewarded and how the final artifacts will be shared or sold.
•   PHASE 3 I start working on the artwork/s, updating you regularly. We promote the project to all interested, especially on Btctalk. Changes might still be made to final artwork/s.
•   PHASE 4: The finished artwork/s and possible prints are put on sale/auctions/raffles and/or other means of distribution for compensation.
•   PHASE 5: Final step of the project when we evaluate it and debate developing future projects.

After lots thinking, writing and drawing I came to a few ideas I'd like to share with you.

First off, I propose the (work) title for this project to be Bitcollectors, combining Bitcoin and collectors. It seems pretty natural.

I decided to change several aspects to make the artwork more compact and inviting. Here's the completely reworked sketch:

Bitcollectors, 2024, Photoshop sketch, version 3

Changes:

•   I went from a three piece to a single piece composition.
This way any owner of a piece will have a easier time positioning it.
Information from three previous pieces was condensed and reworked into the central one.

•   Scenery was redone.
There are several individuals working on production of a physical coin, that is still the centerpiece. From melting, extruding and polishing in the background to adding Bitcoin value to the physical coin in the middle as maybe a hollogram stramp, as well as coding private keys (blockchain, market value chart, bitcoin forum on screens) to the table in the front, where one person assesses the quality of the final product. This way a lot of people will identify with work given in making these artifacts.
It's also educational to a degree, because it shows this is a long process and collectibles don't just magically appear from internet.
In the front of the table is a collection of selected collectibles (to be debated which, could be personalized for buyer).

•   The general atmosphere went from a sterile, internety feel to a more life-like, textured environment. The cleanliness of digital remains on multiple screens, but I again wanted to emphasise the realness (proof) of work and people's life behind making collectible items.

•   I suggest the size of paintings to be 80x60cm (31 ¹/₂ X 23 ⁵/₈˝). That would make them the perfect size for details to be perfectly discernable and not expensive for sending around the globe.

•   The complexity of detail and art style is to a degree open for debate and will vary depending on how we agree to distribute the artwork/s. But I imagine it close to upgraded style of my Bitcoin miner (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-bitcoin-miner-painting-and-nft-reworks-5479557).

I'd like to also integrate the vizualization of Blockchain with Bitcoin value, timestamps and other useful information (that used to be on the left part of the three-piece composition).
Maybe several screens in the middle section could merge into a large one, showing some sort of a unifying diagram or image (similar as on previous sketch maybe, but reworked to be more functional?).

We could then date this project from 2019-2024 as well as add any other information we found interesting or important.

Another idea I've had was adding some relatable visual attributes of certain members of this forum, especially those involved in this project.
Maybe in the form of avatars or some sort of symbols.

Now for my two biggest changes to the project that might make similar projects very interesting in the future:

First is making this a series of artworks instead of one.
That would mean I'd paint an agreed upon number of paintings, that would look almost the same except…

…Those interested in owning a original piece could have details of the painting tailored to their demands.
Either their personas as main characters or their favorite collectibles or some image in the screen showing some fact.
A lot can be done here and fun can be had doing it.

Besides original painting/s, I also feel it's logical to have prints available of demanded painting variations.
I could also personalize some details on these with Photoshop!
Since I have some friends in the printing business now, I can also make prints and send them myself, but if one would take care of distribution, especially in the US to make it easier, I'm also interested in that.

Having a series of paintings and prints take this to my last and very exciting suggestion concerning fair distribution of all finalized artifacts.

DISTRIBUTION OF PAINTING/S AND PRINTS

First we find out how many people are interested in participating in this project and owning either a painting or print.

Second, I propose my artist's fee to get calculated based on the hours I'd put into work on these artworks.
I'd evaluate a figure before start so we could orient around that.
As well as some sort of proof of commitment from potential buyers (proven members of this board excluded, because I know I can trust them).

One important fact is that painting a series takes (way) less time than painting different pieces, so the more canvases, the less one costs.
I can also adjust my style to the demand here. Size of the paintings and amount of detail are all possibly fluid here.

Prints the same size ( 80x60cm / 31 ¹/₂ X 23 ⁵/₈˝) should probably have an affordable price, (digitally altered copies sligtly pricier) so any Bitcoin collector could afford one.

After the completion of work, first the reserved painting/s would be distributed to buyers for set prices.
Prints would be made and distributed on demand.

For other painting/s of the series there could be a raffle system.
I imagined one that might be exciting and fair both for me and potential winners/ losers of the event:

We set a prize goal for the piece and cost for participation.
As soon as the goal is achieved, the winner is found by some proven shared random generator.
BUT everyone else gets the print version!
So if the print would cost 50$/piece, the raffle might be 70$/piece, so it's not that big a commitment as it is fun!

I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas for upgrades on above ideas.
If it worked, it could mean a new way of artist – collector relationship, that's more exciting and reciprocal.

Alright, your turn now. Please also invite anyone you think might be interested in this project to participate.

Cheers!
