In the Portuguese local board we currently only have a single merit source.

Hopefully that source is active and generous, and it's good that the Portuguese section at least has one.  I'm under the impression that's not the case for every local board, even some with large communities (though I could be wrong about that).

But once again--and I've written this so many times in merit source applications--it all comes down to what Theymos wants to do as far as adding new merit sources.  I don't know when the last application was accepted or even much about the statistics involving the number of sources, etc., much less what Theymos's thoughts are.  I keep wishing he'd drop a paragraph or two as sort of a "state of the merit system address" since he's the forum equivalent of the president of the US.  No doubt he's got other things on his plate, but he created the system and it's a damn good one that keeps shitposters and account farmers in check.  There are probably a lot of members, merit sources or not, who'd like to know what his plans/thoughts are.

Good luck OP and everyone else who's applied to be a merit source.

I believe that he will never comment on the merit system or anything of that kind... I think he prefers to keep the system flowing naturally as it currently is... if he were to go public, saying something, could directly influence the way merits circulate. . and perhaps he would like it to be organic, with people distributing merits in the most free way possible...

I think Portuguese board needs another merit source who merit good posts, help users to grow in rank and etc.

Giving merit takes some time and work... It is much easier just to read a few posts and merit none than to read most of them and merit some.

The post quality there is good. There are some good discussions going on there.
However, I am getting tired of meriting posts basically alone, and also receiving basically nothing even when making good contributions.

I will also suggest users such as sabotag3x (a former merit source), rdluffy and Disruptivas, which are all active users of the board too.

I gave joker 25 merits. because I like portuguese food.

I'm surprised that you haven't been appointed the merit sourcehip position yet... I mean, how's that even possible? Theymos hasn't nominated anyone for the sourceship position ever since when? 2018?..

That is the point. It's not that he hasn't appointed Joker, it's that he hasn't appointed anyone else.

Thank you for the merits, I will try to use them in the best way possible.

Joker is a great member and I have no reasons to disadvise against his application, but I don't think the problem on the PT board is necessarily the lack of merit sources.

I am a merit source and, while I am nowadays more and more away from the forum, I still spend the majority of my forum time on the portuguese board even visiting it to do merit sprees. Don't get me wrong, there is rarily a post I would call spam over there, but *in my opinion* there is a difference between merit worthy <> ok post <> bad post. Maybe I just need to be more lenient and give 2x, 3x more merits at once, idk. Wink

Even though I'm not active here, every now and then I come and read what people post on this board. joker_josue has been encouraging me to post, as well as helping everyone on our local board.

Although the merit ratio is very low on the Portuguese board, I always try to maintain the quality of my posts and topics when I post there. We have very good posters like bitmover, Pumared, Disruptivas, TryNinja and many others, as well as our prodigy criptoevangelista.

Also, even though I'm not a merit source, I'm quite generous when I send sMerits, usually sending more than 1 sMerit (when I'm high on sMerits).

We believe that you can listen our community @theymos, I believe this will benefit our community as well as maintain the quality of the forum.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
I would like to bump this topic, to mention that my application is still valid. I remain available to be a source of merit.

Once again I thank you for your support.

Joker_josue has been a quality contributor of the dev & technical board, and most important, a very generous merit giver. The Portuguese LB has been lagging behind; an illustration has been confirmed via charts and graphs. I think I can boldly support JJ on this one.

..and hey Theymos? How long do we still have to wait on you?

In the Portuguese local board we currently only have a single merit source.

We need more merits circulating in this local board, this helps to engage the Brazil/Portugal community and further encourages members to participate with quality content... based on this, @joker_josue has my full support for being a merit source, he has and already demonstrated his impeccable reputation and all his dedication to contributing to this forum.

@theymos I ask that you consider @joker_josue application, I'm sure it's for the good of everyone who thinks about building a better place here.

First of all, apologies for the delay. I had the intention of publishing the overview much earlier and started working on it few weeks ago, but then some unforeseen circumstances limited my forum use to mobile phone almost exclusively (and even that was pain in the ass). Anyway, everything has been sorted now so I was finally being able to finish and publish April's overview of the local boards activity. As always, all charts and table are made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards but I do hope that will change in the near future.

Happy to see this!

Sadly, Brazilian board still the on the "top" smaller merit/post ratio.
I would definitely want another merit source there...

In order to present an overview of the need for more merits in the Portuguese tab (and beyond), here are the most recent data (August'22) on the per post ratio in the local tabs. And I think it's not for lack of quality that the Portuguese tab has such a low ratio, but the few merits available. Maybe other users may have a different view, I don't know...

Several very active local boards like Portuguese, Russian (situation there might be specific due war) and especially Philippines ( I still can't wrap my head around their extremely low merit/post ratio considering how active they are) so their members might think about applying for a merit source status.

The most active members per local board during August 2022

And for the end of this monthly overview, let's see the top 10 active members across the local boards. Once again @joker_josue has been the most active local member with 288 post, leaving @DdmrDdmr and his 191 posts far behind at the 2nd spot and @Ratimov with 159 at the 3rd spot.

Theymos usually approves merit source applications in bulk so I don't think that it makes much sense to wait for already existing applications to be approved before submitting a new one. Due that some members wait for a year or two to get application approved, while some only few months,
I wasn't informed until now. Let's see if I get enough time to collect 10 posts and compile a good thread 🙂
Let's not take the light away from this topic.

For me it's not fear better description is I am not comfortable yet when I am seeing there are no new application accepted in the recent months. There are no point to add another file on the pile.

I agree. They do not review applications every day or every week. Therefore, it is indifferent, to order now or when the list is already revised.
Imagine that they always do this in January (for example). Applying now, you can only wait 2 or 3 months. But if you sign up in February, you'll have to wait about 11 months.

But I understand, people should only write when they feel comfortable and able to fulfill the mission of being a merit source.

Besides being a merit source is a responsibility, I don't feel I am fully committed to it too. It's just sometimes I feel it good to be a merit source when I am out of sMerit.
Imho, as long as you are active enough you shouldn't have much issues  performing the of a merit source.

Once a man, twice a child!
OP, I like the local dimension you're taking it from. It takes who knows to know who knows, as they will say in my local parlance. Native speakers will better understand and appreciate posts in their dialects and can appropriately merit them. I've seen a few posts written in local dialects I don't understand but they were good contents upon my check with translator. Sadly, those posts weren't merited. I couldn't fathom why. I believe that with users asking and meriting only local posts, it will encourage local threads to be active. I hope more users from different local boards will come up with this idea too. It's a nice development.
