Just got up...0550 here...and we're 8 blocks away from the halving. I'd been away from this venue (Satoshi Land) for a while before getting back in last fall, but I do remember what happened the last halving, and having worked in banking and behavioral science and such I have an idea of what to expect...and it is what we're seeing, actually. Miners with high power costs and low resources are tending to bail, which is a natural reaction. Folks who tend to see the relationships over a longer term are sticking it out, and that's what I'm up for.

When my BFF and I started back last year, the spot was in the high (USD) 200's. It's been hovering and reasonably stable for the past couple of weeks at 650, after spiking at 700+. We're looking at that, and reviewing our projections from last year, and it seems obvious that if we were happy with what we expected to get in return in USD then, it figures that even if we're earning 1/2 the BTC, we're still earning more USD than we would have anticipated in the long term.

The bottom line is still (at least for us) that we're investing...cash income is an extra, but something we both need to use from time to time.

We found a good way to run our hardware at a reasonable cost, and we did consider how that arrangement would look after the halving. It works still. The few small machines I am able to run at home will continue, but then I have free power at home. I'll continue to build the hardware up. We've got a ways to go on 12.5/block, so there's lots of good mining still left.

The one thing we're waiting on is to see what BM does on pricing. We're expecting the price on S9s to come down within a month; an S7 is still profitable in the datacenter environment, just not so much...but profit is profit. We're looking to S9s, though.

Mine on... Cool

BTW...I really do appreciate this board. I'm not a big player, but it helps a lot to keep up with the state of the art. If I were working with the kinds of funds I used to have (long story), I'd be even more appreciative to have clean, accurate, and direct information as to WTF is actually going on. Yeah...we rock!  Kiss

Just saw the Huh? questions...that a CKDB restart.

Eighteen blocks left until 1/2 ing.

I have been catching up on my readings in the forum and several miners have called it quits & selling their gear... citing rewards halving mainly, expensive & un-ROI-able S9 and couldn't justify power bill etc.

I couldn't see the rationale here because they can upgrade to S9 which basically gives 2-5 to 3 times more hash for lower power than S7, Avalons etc.

Yes, block rewards is less now but TX amount should increase since its more difficult to find a block.

I think the most important variable that we can depend on is Kano's track record reporting on average we will see 100 blocks every 23 plus days.

My question now is ... will the increased (or lower) difficulty change the 100 block mark to 46 days (23 x 2)?

Any insights from experts?

I am thinking that people are scared of the unknown.  The S7s are still and will still be profitable, just not as much.  I have 43 S7s for sale right now.  If they sell great, if they do not, great.

I do not think that there will a big difference in the difficulty level from historical averages.  The ones getting out of mining are small.  The biggest difference will be in the supply and demand; furthermore, drastic changes in the price of Bitcoin.  The next 2 weeks will be a settling in period.  I think that Bitcoin will have a dramatic increase by September and by the end of the year!  My thoughts.   Wink

I'm hoping that Bitmain lower the price on the S9's then I'll be selling the S7's as well.
The efficiency increase should easily cover losses on a one to one basis.
Still reading some posts on the S9's not sure if they are stable just yet.
Fingers crossed!
