Sigh, SG node dropped off again - lasted more than a minute so everyone failed over to their backups.
Hash rate came back up as expected 5 mins later.

Was from 02:47 UTC for at least a minute or two and thus most miners reconnected from 02:54 UTC
All OK again.

Block by gtso with 52THs!  That would be his 3rd kano block!  Cheesy

How's that!

Working my way up the acclaim board!

It's always fun to add another block to your belt!

Anyone notice the block by shakhta2015, a 30THs miner with his first kano block!?  I was on the phone with my mom and the texts started ringing in my ear!

I have two  S7's and one of them whistles like a very big tea kettle - its really loud.  You can hear that one miner above everything else.  Anyone else have that issue?

On a side note, you can get a 3.5-4.0 terahash miner on ebay right now for under $300.  Its a KNC Neptune - I spoke to the seller and he guarantees me that it has no bad dies.   Now I know  KNC is a four letter word around here, but is this  a bad idea?

Reader's Digest version...Yes, and Yes. See my earlier post(s) on the S7s impersonating turbofan engines...and IMHO the preponderance of posts re KNC (and not only on this board) makes it a non-starter for me, in particular regarding hw reliability and mfr rep. There's a reason it's on sale for under $300.

There are always unique reasons for that decision, however, which is why I'm running Bitmain when I'd prefer not to. I figure Avalon will be able to better the S7 overall before too long, and I'll switch then.

EDIT: ...and listen to Kano re passwords, etc. He's right on.

If anyone finds themselves banned from the entire site (mining, web, etc) send me a PM.
Either your computer is windows and has a virus and someone else is controlling it, or I accidentally banned you in among the 1275 computer botnet I banned over the last 2 hours.
Also I will know which is the case Smiley

Hi Kano, this security and hacking issues are quite widespread now and I am sure there are haters out jealous of the pool's success.
Getting into kano system through its members devices are not far fetch. I am a Mac user and although much secure as compared to a Windows system, there are are also serious cases where Macs are also not spared from RAT hacker tools etc.

Can you let us know what precautions do we need to take on the miners -- S7s in particular, and our desktops, network routers/wifi and smartphones. Thanks
Bitmain hardware, by default, is set to allow anyone to log into it in 2 ways.
They have a default password, which you need to change - like any miner.
(and resetting it, puts that default password back in effect)

The API allows anyone with network access to it, to change any settings, which of course includes the pool settings
I don't have an S7 (and never want one) but that's how it is with all the earlier Bitmain miners and when I told Bitmain about it years ago they didn't care since that's how they want them configured by default for their own mining farms.

So if anyone, anywhere, has network access to it (even another computer in a datacentre) then you need to work out how to change the API from W:0/0 to either R:0/0 or some other setting if you need remote API access to it.

Hell yeah.  You are really fast with block props.

Haha! It's my cgminer monitor that runs my Antminer U3...it gets the pool notices such as shares accepted, blocks found, etc in real time directly from the CKPool.  The U3 is useless for hashing power but getting the CKPool announcements in real time is really cool!

Edit:  Of course, it depends on me sitting in front of my computer for me to see it.  Otherwise I depend on CKPool Monitor texts and the iPhone app for notifications.  This time I was working on my tax return...putting in my bitcoin related items!

Simple common sense.
Don't save your passwords on your PC. Don't leave your pc on without using it. Use a good firewall/router. Use 2way auth when possible. Keep offline wallets, etc...

In regards to your miner being hacked, I strongly doubt this unless you make it easy.

how come i have been making $1 a day for the past three days of joining kc pool with my s7 antminer and at ghash or antpool it was more like $5 a day, everybody said its better payouts here?
 Huh

i would tend to agree with everybody saying that, so where does that leave your miner?

you sure you not seeing it as $1 a payout instead of $1 a day?
other than that your S7 is hashing at below s5 N Avg speeds.

@ 1.12THs, i'm seeing about 0.00317 BTC/day ~ $1.58

post the first couple of rows/lines in your rewards page and someone here will help decipher it.

no im seeing it right here are pics from today ..

Welcome aboard, Chickenfeed!
Yours rewards look fine for your S7 and I think you'll find that after 10 to 15 days of mining here on Kano (and especially after 30 days) you'll see that you'll be making more BTC than anywhere else.
What batch is your S7? Mine is a batch 9 and runs at frequency of 700m, averages 4.7GH/s and blades run at about 51 degrees (in my nice cool basement in NJ, although weather is starting to warm up). It also sounds like 757 jet engine at takeoff! The sucker is loud!

Indeed. I've got a Batch 12 and two Batch 16s...even the new B16 "one fan...which runs at 6K v. 4K" box is just as loud as the older ones...although I likened them to Hueys at idle as that was my base personal experience with such noise B| ...I've got mine on wire shelving, then enclosed in styrofoam sheeting with ventilation at both ends of the "tube" and the hot air going out a window just next to the exhaust end of the shelf. It cut the noise by over 50% (according to my dB meter). Works for me, the service dog and two cats...just looks like a giant Igloo cooler with window fans at each end. I've also got 7 S3s...they sound like flowers blowing in the breeze compared to the S7s.

One last "thing" for chikenfeed in all good intents...you really have to stay with a pool for 30 days or so to get a real idea of how well it will do for you. That's why we have the "5Nd" thing, so people don't go hopping pools using crappy private code and screwing up the works. A couple of days, or even a week, won't do it. You won't really know how you're doing on a given pool until you've got some time under it, and compared it to what others are getting from other sources (I have cultivated those contacts to know). I haven't found anyone yet on ckpool that, like myself, has done 30-day or longer tests with equal hardware, etc. and come away thinking any different than this is the best place to be. You're welcome here. Mine on!  Cool

Hi all. Is having my miners off for 5 hours yesterday, ( girl came over to vacuum) while I was at school, the reason my rewards are down today on a per instance basis by .0007 BTC ?
Depends on what your hash rate is.
However, if your miners went off you would have seen the ~31hr ramp down of payments, then when switch back on the ~31hr ramp back up.
Your per block reward depends on your hash rate vs the pool hash rate which goes up and down all the time.

If the pool hash rate goes up, we expect on average to find more blocks so if all blocks were 100%, you'd average less per block but more blocks.
The reverse of course is also true if it went down.
The Pool->Graph menu shows you the randomness of the pool hash rate Smiley
Thank you @Kano. This is something I had hypothesized and was unsure about. Knowing is half the battle ( go Joe!)

Oh and I just realised I misread one word in your post Tongue
I read 5 days, but you said 5 hours. Oops.

~5/30 being ~1/6 ...
So in that case you'll have seen ~1/6 of the ramp down, not down to zero, just down to ~5/6, after they were switched off, then take ~1/6 of the ramp up time to get from ~5/6 to ~6/6 = full
Of course the overall expected result is simply that you lost 5 hours of mining reward ... as expected.

here's a simple calculation I use to know if the pool is doing better on average..

blocks found on average 1 per 10 minutes = 144

144 x number of bitcoin rewards (25) = 144 x 25 = 3600 btc per day

3600 btc / network hasrate (1310ph ) = 3600 / 1310000TH = 0.00274 per th

4.73th (antminer S7) x 0.00274 = 0.0129 btc per day per S7.

currently on Kano you hitting at just a mere 4 blocks found per day ( not counting our crazy 13th day lmao) 0.01375... Wink conservatively

hope this helps..

trust me Ive tested against antpool and kano and slush OMG for two months solid... and my conclusion is simple...
I got screwed on Antpool 20 %  in dollar terms sigh... Slush was just sad sad sad....
