Real Madrid lost the previous match against Getafe. I think the main reason for the defeat was Vinicius' injury. Although Real Madrid is a stable team, they still rely on Vinicius and Benzema for goals. Valencia are not a weak team. Real Madrid will play this match with a full squad. And they have to win this match. Otherwise they will move to second place in the points table in a few days. The match is very important for Real Madrid.

So Barcelona just gave Couthinho to Gerrard and Aston Villa and it shouldn't be a surprise as Couthinho really doesn't desire to play for Barcelona and his best moment of his career was indeed with Bayern even if with Liverpool had some great moments too. You're right, Real Madrid is really is an excellent formation and is always the subject of quite a beautiful spectacle when they give the sensation of the game on the pitch. Barcelona seem to be doing really well after Xavi took over.It is not only the luck that usually new coaches have when they start managing a new squad,it is also because Xavi has been the very heart of midfield and the very heart of the Barcelona itself when he was in his golden days.The fact that they are just 2-3 points away from the third place I think it is another big motivation for them to start performing even better as Xavi tries to harmonize even further the players with each other and I think they can easily achieve this for the remaining of the season.

We call it as honeymoon and new coaches usually have honey moons in first few weeks after taking a new position. Because players will feel better with a new coach, players who spend lots of time on bench will have more motivation to fight for a position in main squad and together they help to create honey moons.

Later real issues will occur again and honey moon ends and a new coach has to fix current issues in a club. I am sure it is not an easy task. The honey moon of Xavi will end one way or another, sooner or later.

Ending this season in top 4 will be a survival ticket for them financially. If they fail and can not end in top 4, no way to join Champions League and they will lose big income in next season.

Another way to join Champions League is win Europa League but will Barcelona be able to win it. I guess they can not achieve it so La Liga will be priority of Barcelona.

I also don't think Atletico Madrid can do it without mistakes, although they are not completely out of the title race but it seems the difficulty is increasing given the declining form in the last 5 match. They have lost 4 times in a row and it is a fact that they will find it difficult to compete with Real Madrid and Sevilla who are both in first and second place.

Meanwhile, Barcelona's improved performance has put pressure on Atletico Madrid, where the two teams are only 1 point apart. At this point Barcelona of course benefit from the declining performance of Atletico Madrid and if Atletico Madrid again fails to score points in the match vs Villareal then Barcelona could just go into top 4. But Granada is also not an easy opponent for Barcelona, of course.

I don't want to jinx my own team but yes, the spirit does seem to be getting better, and I know Xavi's not the best man for the long term but he's already instilling a better team spirit that I can see, and again we must remember now we are rebuilding. Just focus on style and formation and discipline. Train up the young squad and get more stability back in defence. Getafe to do a double on Real would be awesome though hehe
