Well, well, well, Barcelona lose their opening game. I didn’t see that coming! Obviously it won’t cause too much of a massive problem in their efforts to be champions again but they must bounce back in their next game.
That match yesterday simply demonstrated that there is an over dependence on Messi... When Messi is absent, Barcelona's fear factor goes away tooHopefully Real Madrid don't lose points too today.

I wrote in the old thread that I believe Atletico Madrid will open the league in superb form and take 1st position. I am seeing them as winter champions and then it will be a question if they are able to keep it when Barca and/or Real start playing better in few months time. We could have a very interesting league this season.
Anyway, Trofo put me up there for Real... Just cos I like Hazard. Too bad he's injured tho. He won't play for a month or so.
Done and little birdie just told me that Neymar is coming to Real. I really don't know what is in that guy head. You can't spend all summer talking about Barca and then leave for Real. Stuff like that doesn't make you very popular with supporter unless you score 50+ goals in the first season. Underdog winner, I doubt that!
Last time any small team won League was Leicester City which won the Premier League in 2015-16. But in La Liga, I doubt any team has such caliber. Last season, few teams did beat big teams like Real Betis defeated Barcelona in Camp Nou. We can see such turns this season too. But I doubt any small team can do this consistently and win the league.
Although Real looked poor in pre-season but still Real has players who can turn any game any time. Real may improve significantly in later part of the season.
Whereas, let's not forget about Atletico Madrid. Atletico is strongest team in the league. However, Barcelona has Messi who can beat any team single-handedly. My prediction: either of the Barcelona or Atletico will win the league.

Yeah, Barca and Real win too many times. But I doubt you can call Atletico Madrid or other top 6 as an underdog. It's quite difficult to win against Barca and Real btw, they need more luck and work hard like crazy.
In last 6 games without Messi, Barcelona has 4 losses and 2 draws. So actually this result is not a huge surprise, rest of the team simply don't know what to do when he is not on the pitch, no plan at all.
They should stop playing as a one-man team. No team who depends on 1 individual can be consistent throughout the season afaik.

Took a parlay involving Barca last night and I thought it would end a scoreless draw but credit to Bilbao for taking advantage of a Messiless team... Rather poor debut from de Jong too.

Interesting start of the season. Barcelona unexpectedly lost away at Bilbao (1-0). They had huge possession as always (73%) but only 2 shoots on target. Griezmann, Suarez and Dembele will need to step up their game.
The tactical experiments of Ernesto Valverde are not suited for Barcelona, and the board has to have seen that. He starts the season trying to force entertaining football and then later switch to his more convenient, cautious style of football which does not relate with the Barcelona style.
The heavy dependence on Messi would continue regardless of how many big names they sign.

What a screamer! And just a few days ago Aduriz announced that he was retiring at the end of the season. Crazy stuff.
F*cking amazing is a very good description of the whole situation. You could feel the love & respect between Aduriz and Bilbao supporters even behind a TV set.
Had a feeling this would be a tough match for Barca but I didn't expect them to lose it. At least I didn't bet on it.
