For shits & giggles I installed MacMiner on a IMac with a Radeon R9 M290X and attempted to mine Litecoin
Pretty laughable 15Kh/s vs the L3+ 504/Mh/s. Such a massive order of magnitude difference on a 2yo GPU vs modern ASIC.

The AntRouter R1-LTC even pulls 1.29Mh/s which is almost 100x performance of the GPU.

Does anyone have hard numbers on what they have mined so far for a May batch machine?  I sold mine, but would like to know if that was a good choice or not?

It was a bad choice.

I mined 115 LTC, 18 GameCredits, 28500 DOGE and 0.055 BTC (via NiceHash) using two L3+between May 9 - June 5. Solo mining now, so stats are as of last block find.
Total value mined close to $4000. I can still sell those units now for 2800-3500 without effort, which is probably the price range you sold it for.

I presold one May unit on Ebay for 3100. I regret it. I also regret not buying the July batch as the LTC difficulty has subsided. I believe many are trying out the other scrypt alts that seem to make more per day than LTC. I think it is an illusion since you are looking at profitability whenever difficulty drops and readjusts back every block. Many alts have a high number of orphan blocks too.

My stats may not be representative of what everyone else is seeing. One of my L3+ has been extremely lucky. It mined 2 blocks on litecoinpool and 3 on tbdice. The other unit only mined 1 block on litecoinpool.

Probably right not the best choice but it all depends on sale price.  Remember btc bulled during this time so all in all if you sold you miner for around .4btc more than you bought it, you'd be even as of today given the expected sale price now (in btc)

My L3+ units have averaged 39.51 LTC and 34,322 Doge since May 6th. So for me they each have generated about $1,260 so far. No ROI yet for me, but probably will by mid June.  Smiley

Don't be fooled by drop in difficulty level.. .its bitmain playing games.. the units on Hashnest weren't selling at $3600 a piece when they launched it they only sold like 10 units 1 day.

I think so they panicked and took some inhouse machine offline so people would see better ROI temporarily and once all the Hashnest units will be sold out watch how the Network Rate spikes to 9TH/s.

Very clever games Bitmain!!! Touche...

Yeah...I'm already preparing at BEST for the mental anguish of 1/2 of my mining profits going almost poof immediately in July. Smiley

This is how home mining died for bitcoin in summer of 2014....blamo.....too much equip .....bitmain will own pow scrypt hostage too it seems soon

I suppose the next step is to play the same game with x11 miners in the future. (ducks.....hey...it is not like they have not thought of this too ..don't ya know) Smiley

It is kinda interesting to see what I thought april 1st at 6 buck ltc .would take 10-11 months .probably be all wrapped up in bitmain's favor in like 4-5 months

they are so gonna own pow scrypt and lock out anyone even thinking about making a machine....by Dec getting a Bitmain L3+ will make about as much

sense as getting a T9 Bitcoin miner now.....its bitmain its what they do.....toasters...kicking them out like toasters Sad

SEaring can you recommend some one who can host 1 L3+ for me?

the guy at http://www.btcmeqc.com/ are not responding

Contact maxumark on here he can set you up. (Or at least ask the guy directly at the data hall)

We both have our equip there. I'll try calling maxumark but pm details of your stuff to him etc also.

Anyone else in the same boat do the same

I bought a couple from the Aug./Sept. batch and am feeling like an idiot for not doing enough homework. From reading the thread seems like I'm basically screwed. Any thoughts on strategy at this point? Try to turn around and sell them for as much as I can get as soon as I get them? Use them, take the cost of electricity hit, and hope LTC value increases? Am a newbie. Anybody else in the same boat?

Nobody knows how it's going to turn out so it's too soon to say if you're screwed. You can't cancel the order (although someone mentioned in this thread that Bitmain may offer a "store credit" type of refund) and you have two months until you need to make a decision. Stop by in August and ask again.

One thing I would suggest is that if you don't like the risk of buying the hardware then holding the LTC would only compound the risk. Perhaps sell 50% of mined LTC to cover your costs or something like that. Again, it depends a lot on what the exchange rate and difficulty is going to be in August.

Many people have been "reselling" the pre-order but you may be in luck, go check out the LTC difficulty trend today.

They have hit max capacity on circuits. They are building out another pod that will likely take months to light up.
As far as I know they are adding a tiny bit of temp capacity only for existing customers who had equipment enroute.

thanks machinezero finally i got an email from Tim telling me the same thing... bummer.. I hope they get the facility up and running soon.

I'll just wait for the L4+  I assume the Aug/Sept batches are all of the L3+ they have in stock and are priced to pay for L4 development.  Once they ship all the L3+ in stock out they will replace with L4s and pre-sell those.

Part of the evil plan to dominate the world.

Remember that L3+ is the best script hardware on the market. Bitmain does not need to work on more powerful hardware. Not now in my opinion.

They can think and maximize profits.
It does not kill this market so fast. To make a profit you have to stretch it in time. And it must coincide with the LTC/USD rate. The rising LTC valuation will result in increased demand for new devices with ever-increasing difficulty.
So this business is spinning. 4-6 months ROI is a good solution.
With a very good profit to cost ratio (low power requirement), it's a very good solution.
