Nicely done!

Thanks for appraisal!

Did you try contacting Ledger support to explain the display issue to them? Not that you need it now after getting it fixed, but they have been known to send free replacement devices even after expired warranties. That is, if you have the necessary proof when and how you purchased the wallet. They no longer sell the Nano S, but I am sure they still have them in their storage lockers somewhere, taking up necessary space for other items.

Nope, I have not been in  contact with support. The device has been bought incognito in 2018 from reseller.

Finally found some free time to replace the broken display on my Ledger nano s. The device had served me faithfully for four years before it suddenly stopped working. This prompted me to purchase the nano s+ last year.
Nice work!
I always appreciated good old do-it-yourself fixing instead of paying extra premium to repairman or official manufacturer (not that I am fan of ledger devices in any way).
You can use ledger even when display is not visible anymore, just turn on your smartphone video camera, point over ledger and magic happens... maybe this could be used to prevent scammers, intentional faulty display protection mechanism  Cheesy

Finally found some free time to replace the broken display on my Ledger nano s. The device had served me faithfully for four years before it suddenly stopped working. This prompted me to purchase the nano s+ last year.

Broken device had been sitting in a storage until  a new display was bought two  months ago. I decided to make the replacement tonight.

The entire process took about five minutes. Opening the case was surprisingly simple. Replacing the display itself was also straightforward.

The most challenging part  was reinserting the circuit board into the case so that two micro-switches  were aligned with the bar that holds the two buttons.

Design leaves something to be desired.

For anyone attempting this, it's best to place the new display in the case first and then slide the circuit board under the bar. This approach makes all things easier.

Toothpick on the picture shows one of micro-switches already in position under the bar. Near the case  is the old display that I removed.

Now my old Ledger nano s shines like new one.  Wink

Unfortunately mine was not under warranty anymore.
But I was able to change the screen for a few bucks, very easy by following this video https://youtu.be/zZyHwA2lkwM

I recently had the same issue with my nano S, ledger did not replace the item or provided me with any kind of help, they just offered to sell me a new one, after some research I was able to find the item at alibaba and the seller there provided me with an amazon link for a single item purchase, I'm leaving the item link here in case anyone needs it, you need a 12 pin, hard to find on amazon, almost all of them are 14 pin.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09H1ZHBQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There is a very similar looking, and somewhat cheaper item listed on AliExpress here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003395494877.html

I have no idea if it is the same, or indeed compatible... but under the specs it lists the "Display Mode" as "Ledger":

Also, like Amazon, this looks like the only 12pin version that is available on AliExpress. Everything else is 14pins... (or 14pins soldered to a daughter board that has 4 pins Roll Eyes)

Somewhat interestingly... I also found this 8pin model (same "brand" - "yunrichlcd") that lists the "Display Mode" as "Ledger Nano S Wallet": https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32857997004.html

Perhaps and earlier (or later) hardware revision? Huh

From my research this seems to be a common issue, I don't expect a replacement, but they are aware of this, they should offer to fix it (no necessarily for free), sell the spare or at least provide a link to purchase it.
Quality of materials in ledger wallet is zero, and don't expect to get any support from them, because they have so much problems with batteries for nano x now that they don't know where their asses are.
Even if they start selling spare LCD screen they would overprice it and I am sure that all parts are coming from China, including that LCD screen.

@jozbaldwin, is your device still under warranty? I guess not, but I'm still weird that they didn't offer you a replacement as was the case with @Adriano2010 - obviously they changed their minds on that, or you're just out of luck given the customer support agent who handled your case.

No, my warranty expired, but I believe a cold wallet like this should last for a very long time, if not whats the point?, on another forum I saw an user that had the same issue and ledger at least provided him with a link to the spare part on a chinese website that I could not figure out how to use, I expected at least the same treatment.

I mentioned that in my support feedback to ledger.

From my research this seems to be a common issue, I don't expect a replacement, but they are aware of this, they should offer to fix it (no necessarily for free), sell the spare or at least provide a link to purchase it.

In any case, there's the link if anyone else needs it, a little expensive for such as small part, but way cheaper than a new nano S.

Like I originally said...
Some companies (that provide decent customer service and try to maintain a good reputation) will still honour warranties if they have only just expired and it has only been a month or so.

It's good to see the Ledger are willing to stand behind their product like this and honour a (technically) expired warranty and provide a free replacement... and they even covered the shipping! THAT is above and beyond in my books.

Acts like this are what make a company stand out in an ever crowded market space Wink

Very likely you are right, it is possible that there were more cases like this, and the easiest way is simply to send a new device. It is in any case more favorable and cheaper option for Ledger then a dissatisfied user who posts comments about a broken device all over the internet. Given the problems that come from time to time, Ledger needs some good promotions, and such things can do just that.

I guess they have seen these screen issues before and from the way you described the problem they were able to connect your issue with the feedback they had from before. Nevertheless it is a very classy move by Ledger to send you a brand new device for free.

A little update, they ship a new ledger nano s and even don't need to send the old ledger nano s back.
They shipped a new one at no cost to you? Even though it was one month out of warranty? I've got to say, if that's the case, that's mighty impressive customer service from Ledger.

Did they mention anything about whether they had seen this kind of issue before?

Yes, they ship new one without cost, they said just to confirm my shipping address and they say is no need to send this device with problem to them.

They not say nothing about this particular issue or if this happen to more devices.
Great service from Ledger. In future i can buy Nano X.

I will post a photo once package arrive.

Yeah. If you are dead set on getting the Nano X, then your best bet is to keep an eye out for any flash sales or weekend events or that kind of thing. If I remember correctly, they had 50% off the Nano S during last year's Black Friday sale, but that might only be because the launch of the Nano X was nearby, and it might be that they don't discount the Nano X at all for a year or more.

If you buy Nano S again there is a risk that an identical problem will occur to you (unlikely).
I've never heard of this problem before, so I think OP would have to astronomically unlucky for it to happen to him twice on two consecutive devices.
