Hey everyone. I'm just wondering how many of you actually have read the Bitcoin whitepaper in details. As a Hero member of Bitcointalk, I am ashamed to say that I have not read the Bitcoin whitepaper yet - not even scan through it.

I think I will spare sometime this week to read the Bitcoin whitepaper so that I can understand Bitcoin in detail - most of my knowledge (if not all) about Bitcoin come from Bitcointalk discussions.

Many thanks for posting the white paper here for everyone to read. I went through the first few pages, but couldn't understand almost 50% of what was written. For people who don't have much knowledge of statistics and economics, it is tough.

bitcoin whitepaper was one of the first things that i have read back in the days i was a newbie in bitcoin and was getting to know it all better. it is not the most informative thing to read though!

i prefer to read the bitcoin wiki for a more detailed information about bitcoin.
Not that have never had time to read the whitepaper but does not believe i can understand it then.Is there any relevance in the whitepaper and bitcoin wiki because i have read wiki page a lot

Wow.

I'm astonished that so few here (maybe 2% of posters?) have actually read the white paper that started the whole reason for all of us being here at all.  Shocked

Read the damn thing! It's not so bad and it gives you the starting point of view, even if it's a bit outdated now.

I have it prepared and printed so my mum can read it Cheesy, I  read the first page but was very lazy to read it as a whole.  I tried to continue reading it once and a while but was unable to finish it yet because whenever i start reading i feel sleepy because of wall of text and many words are alien to me. I've not red it properly yet, but I remember that someday I've quickly went throught it and saw some mathematics that looked boring and complicated so I did not went deeper into my read.

usually those who are really interested in bitcoin and want to find out more about it have already read the whitepaper, and since most people are only seeing bitcoin as a way to get rich by investing and nothing else , they don't have any desire in reading it.

and BTW i have already read it.

Yes.  Historical document.  People should read it for the same reason you'd read the classics.

most of my knowledge (if not all) about Bitcoin come from Bitcointalk discussions.

Same here, and if you ask me to be honest about this then i also did not read the whitepaper like you, but i'm not ashamed of that because i already know how to use bitcoin and what bitcoin is or how i can earn it, so i don't think there are any other things i importantly need to know, though it is always better to have more knowledge about something.

there may be many people in this forum did not read that whitepaper yet and maybe most of us just got information and knowledge also here in this forum. you are right, there may be no any other things that we need to know as long as we already know how to use bitcoin and the basic knowledge about how bitcoin works it is enough. but reading that whitepaper could give us more knowledge and lets us understand more things anyway.

Even as a full member rank on the forum I dont think I have ever read beyond one page of any white paper whether Bitcoin or any ALT coin. And sometimes I ask myself what is the relevance of this paper? and if developers dont prepare it, we wont take them serious at the same time we wont read it. Its such an ironical situation. I think the developers should do more by simplifying the document in plain english for easy understanding...

Yes, I read the whitepaper. I had to read it several times and write things down to understand it. I also read most of the BIPs, some of them several times. I like to understand the details of the protocol and the cryptography behind it. Also the cryptography which could be used to improve Bitcoin.

No, i never read it nor the thought that something like that exists there came to my mind before you drew my attention to it. I have read here in this forum that many altcoins publish their whitepaper but I never read them but I will from now on and I will also read bitcoin whitepaper carefully so that I can fully understand it. Thanks for sharing the link to bitcoin whitepaper with us.

Thanks for reminding me of that. It's something that I've always meant to read, but I thought I would learn a bit about Bitcoin before diving in. Maybe that's the wrong way round. Smiley

Taking me in counting 99% of here or bitcoin users even dont know that Bitcoin Whitepaper does exist as no one cares about it , they are just relying on its uses and price. If their is any new altcoin then everyone will come and ask about its whitepaper and roadmap but no one asked Bitcoin this all details as it is now the main coin for all other coins and products. So i think who are in mining and programming field they are only wanted to read it as they can change some details according to their specification needs.

Bitcoin has changed quite a bit since its inception.
I think ~75% of the code currently being used is different from the original one.

to my knowledge bitcoin has never changed much, only new features (improvements) were added (BIPs) what is changed is the bitcoin client (bitcoin core) and i don't think the change is as big as 75% (although i would love some experts opinion on this) because the basics are still the same.

and to answer OP, yes i have read it but i read it this year after 1-1.5 year if using bitcoin Cheesy
